There's a ton of pizza options out there, lots in TO, but yet, I keep coming back to D'Amore's.
The pizza is phenomenal. There's a uniqueness to their crust that honestly I cannot pinpoint what they're doing different - it's got a ton of flavor, just the slightest perfect chewy pull, it's thin but not floppy or cracker like, and not too overwhelmed by other flavors (like butter). In other words, the crust is perfect.
So there you have it. Honestly the review could easily end there and that crust alone would have me calling back.
But then on a whim I got the Italian Panini.
Now, I haven't had the best luck with ordering sandwiches from a pizza joint. Inevitably ends up being made with essentially repurposed pizza dough and toppings but less appetizing because they didn't go through the pizza cooker - your mileage may vary. More often then not, these sandwich wannabes are just uncooked pizza - with past results like these you're probably wondering why I even bothered trying it.
But this is D'Amore's and they weren't done wowing me.
D'Amore's panini was delicious. The ingredients inside the sandwich easily rivaled a top tier Italian Bottega, and also had fresh tomatoes and lettuce and just the perfect amount of pepperoncinis.
The bread did seem derived from the pizza dough, yet it was fried crispy with a light airy texture inside. So the sandwich wasn't squished when it was cooked, more like they stuffed the sandwich after. Honestly liked it better that way. Each bite took me on a journey, between the crunch of the fresh veg, brightness of the pepperoncinis, flavorful cheese and meats - not just a bunch of cold pepperoni in there. There was thought made into this sandwich. Someone said to them "Pizza place sandwiches suck" and D'Amore's said "hold my beer".
Oh they have beer and wine too.
Any rate, it's now my favorite pizza joint in TO, I just wish I had...
Read moreI have been a loyal customer of this restaurant for over 10 years. My wife son and I ate there about twice a week. I've been to their Encino, Winnetka, Tarzana locations, but most of the time in Thousand Oaks. (Encino closed a long time ago)Every location served the exact same dishes made the same way. Their lunch specials were great. A large piece of pizza, and a great salad with a garlic roll for about 10.00. Not cheap, but the pizza slice was large, and the salad was very generous and delicious. They had the best Italian dressing. Then about 10 months ago a big change occurred. The pizza was the same, but the salad shrank about half the size, and get this, it was apparent they counted out 5 garbanzo beans, 5 kidney beans, 5 small olive slices, and one pepperoncini. The dressing was changed too. It was this thick tasteless dressing that wouldn't even pour out of their dispensers because it was so thick. I hear they got new dispensers but the same awful dressing. I posted a note on the owner Leah's facebook, . She never answered. I called her twice and never returned my calls. One last thing, this location has a stinking sump and smells up the whole restaurant. They said their landlord won't fix it. We haven't been back now for about a...
Read moreWe tried D'Amore's Pizza in Thousand Oaks for the first time, and we loved it! We dined in and ordered the family sized baked ziti, a regular sized meatless Italian salad, garlic knots with marinara sauce, and a large canola for dessert.
The ziti was rich and cooked perfectly and tasted so good! The family portion was way more food than we needed for 2 adults and a child, though. The regular size would have fed us all.
The meatless Italian salad was fresh and included romaine lettuce, mozzarella cheese, olives, tomatoes, and pepperoncinis. The Italian dressing was served on the side and it was all delicious.
I ordered an 805 draft beer, which came in a cold glass. So good!
The canoli was rich, creamy, crispy with a bit of chocolate drizzle on the plate. It tasted authentic and really good!
The prices at D'Amore's Pizza are very reasonable, especially considering that we had a family portion of ziti for $24.
I highly recommend you try D'Amore's Pizza for an authentically delicious and reasonably priced...
