I wish, wish, wish I could give this place five stars! Just so sad that the noise was quite literally unbearable at times. My husband and I came on a Friday night and sat in the corner, away from the largest open part of the room and the noise from other tables was so awfully loud that we decided not to play the last game we chose and left earlier than planned. It was so loud at some points that we literally had to yell to hear each other and we couldn’t focus on our game…we walked into the hall to get away from it for a minute, dreading going back in to finish our drinks. That is a problem.
We are from Austin where there are some pretty great gaming bars and all of them use tapestries, rugs, and curtains, and now I know why! This place would be absolutely perfect if they would improve the gaming experience for their patrons by providing a more acoustically adjusted space. I truly hope the owners read this and take it to heart!
It’s a relatively easy and inexpensive fix to put up curtain rods along the walls and hang heavy curtains, use some rugs, and partition off the separate gaming tables with tension wire and thick curtains to create a bit of a barrier between one table and the next. That would vastly improve the intimacy of the space and the noise level so everyone could enjoy this offering.
Even on the busiest nights, customers should still be able to hear each other when talking at a normal volume, especially given the theme of the bar. The food is delicious, the cocktails are fabulous, excellent game library, and lovely staff. But it literally hurts to be here too long, what...
Read moreHow disappointing; I have wanted to check this place out for several years and I finally had the chance. Unfortunately, my group of 5 had a really poor experience overall here.
The good? The food is really good.
The bad? There was a group next to us playing a game involving slapping the table. Every minute or so, this group of four slammed the table as hard as they could and frequently screeched in response to the outcome. The acoustics of the bar make it so that sound travels very easily through this location. My entire group was frequently bothered by the noise to a very significant degree. Not once did the staff request the table to please play more gently or be mindful of their shouting -- instead, after waiting more than half an hour for this to cease, when I requested that they please moderate the group in their establishment, I was told, "well, it's a bar." Ma'am, I've been in many bars, and behavior like THAT is usually a sign of overconsumption. Either way, sometimes obnoxious behavior needs to be moderated for the comfort of others - I was shocked at this response and very disappointed.
I feel bad giving such a low star review to a local business, but allowing one group to ruin the experience of the other...
Read moreSenet has quickly become one of my favorite establishments. Primarily a board game bar, they also host a plethora of other events, ranging from trivia and bingo to Dungeons & Dragons; they even offer rentals for events and parties, which is always a nice bonus.
Derrick, the owner, has cultivated an incredibly welcoming environment over the years, whether you’re going solo or with a larger group. The board game collection he’s amassed is quite impressive — it’s hard to imagine someone not finding SOMETHING they’re into. Catan, Cards Against Humanity, Hues and Cues, you name it!
The service side of Senet is equally top-notch. Katie, Nichole, and Jenn are not only attentive and friendly, but also super knowledgeable. If they’re unable to offer a specific beverage, they’re quick to come up with a solution — often one that’s even better than what I had originally had in mind. They’re the kind of people who make you feel like you’ve known for years, even if you just met them yesterday. I always look forward to my conversations with them.
All in all, I can’t recommend Senet enough — as far as I’m concerned, it’s THE spot for boozy board games, good vibes, and genuinely great service. I’m looking forward to being a regular for...
