Luis' Place — Restaurant in Topeka

I had such high hopes. My wife and I had not been out on a date in a while. So when we heard about this place and read reviews, it sounded perfect; pricey, but perfect. When we arrived, we didn’t see any signage to know we were in the right place until we got out of the vehicle and walked over to the stairs leading down to the front door, where there is a small plate on a crossbeam with the name. That’s open for interpretation. Let me say now that our meal was delicious. My sirloin and my wife’s salmon were both cooked perfectly. All the flavors were absolutely on point. But my accompanying mashed potatoes and green beans were room temperature. The only bread served was a tiny slice the size of an Oreo cookie with our small portion of soup. And our crème brûlée didn’t set all the way so the bottom was runny. With a set price of $55 per person, I expected more. The service was great! But I would suggest the servers could wear something rather than street clothes. Call me critical, but We were looking forward to a fine-dining experience. This place must be making a lot of money. Like another reviewer ..unfortunately we were not able to try this entity as they would not call us or our sister company back after more than 15 to 20 phone calls. Started calling in September to schedule an xmas party for 10. Talk to 1 girl initially she stated they could book a reservation, told them I would call right back with a count, same day, no answer. Leaving messages for weeks. Sister company/co-worker called for weeks finally told he was going to be gone for a week and they would call us when he got back. Nothing..today I called 1 last time. (I know.. why?!?!), left a message and surprise, got called back. (Probably becuz I said "your message states you will call back asap, I hope thats true this time."). Anyway, all booked of course, now that its a month and a half after trying to book a xmas reservation!!! Its a shame, probably would have made $300.00 just in tips from that evening! This place is a true Topeka gem. My wife and I have been here three times now and the food and service are always on point! Great intimate atmosphere with delicious food and drinks. This last time however, the Advisor's Excel bro group was in full swing. They completely ruined the atmosphere and vibe of the place. They were very loud and boisterous and drunk. They made a nice quiet romantic restaurant into a douchey bro sports bar without any care for anyone except themselves. Our waitress was very accommodating and kept apologizing even though it was most definitely not ANY of the staff's fault and they were wonderful.
