Ordered through Door Dash so this review should be considered with that in mind, as some of the issues could be Door Dash's responsibility. Ordered 2 two meat platters: 2x ribs, brisket, and pulled pork. Unfortunately the pulled pork and 2nd order of ribs never made it; instead got one box with ribs and brisket and another box with what appeared to be a half order of brisket.
The brisket was amazing--tender, moist, and with a great bark and smokey flavor cooked deep into it. Really the best brisket I've had in Topeka.
I was skeptical about the BBQ sauce because of how runny it was, but it was really flavorful. Seems like a vinegar based sauce? Really good. Wish they had a hot option though.
The ribs we received were tough to chew. Flavor was okay, maybe more salt needed. But it's hard to tell because I couldn't get past how tough it was. First time trying and maybe we just got a sub-par batch.
For sides we got potato salad and bbq beans. Wanted yams, but they were sold out. Potato salad was alright. Pretty average but tasty. Didn't care for the BBQ beans. Not many beans, pretty liquid rather than thick, less flavorful. Also had ground meat of some sort in it that didn't look or taste appetizing. Having bits of brisket or burnt ends might help, but the ground meat in the BBQ beans looked grey and was in large hunks, like they were plopped in.
Ordered lemonade and sweet tea as well which never came with the order. Once again, these issues may be a Door Dash issue, but I can't be sure. Just retelling my experience.
Overall, I want to try again since their fairly new, or at least in a new spot, and probably working out a couple kinks. Their brisket was on point and if they can get that level of quality in their other meats, I'd be sold. But the ribs were iffy and didn't have a chance to try the pulled pork so I'm on the fence. Would like to try again just to see how everything...
Read moreWe were in downtown Topeka around lunch time and decided to try Nauling’s. A very nice and personable lady greeted us and since we were new, she took time to show us the menu and we discussed items. Since I rarely see catfish on the menu I decided on Catfish and my wife had the smoked Mac n Cheese with pulled pork. Both items were quickly delivered to our table and right away we were pleased with our choices. The attached pictures will show how delicious both meals looked and the presentation was spot on. All I can say is that the Catfish was perfectly cooked and the fries were hot and excellent. I have never had fries like this and they were a thick curly fry like a steak fry but with a twist in it. I picked an additional side and had collard greens and they finished off an excellent tasty meal. My wife was very pleased with her choice and she said the Mac n cheese had a good smokey flavor and the pulled pork was excellent too. We will definitely be back and will be checking for what the daily special is and the next time I want to try the smothered pork chops. If you are traveling down I 70 then this would be a great stop due to the good food and it is a few blocks from...
Read moreIt pains me to share this review. Firstly, when I got there, they were out of many of the key items I wanted: ribs, brisket, potato salad, baked beans.😪 My fault completely as I didn't show up until 2pm. They did have pulled pork, hot links, coleslaw and greens which is what I ordered.
Was told the wait would be 20 minutes however it was more like 10.👍
Portions were small. Coleslaw was DRY AF and tasteless. Pulled pork was HONESTLY about 70%fat. Sausage was dry. Greens were definitely not cooked with any sort of meat and were not seasoned AT ALL.
To top it all off, the "Texas" toast was not toasted, nor buttered.
HOPEFULLY I came in on an off day for them, but I doubt it as EVERYTHING was subpar to put it as nicely as I can.
I'm heartbroken as I'm from Texas and was excited to get a taste of home again. I was bitterly disappointed.
HONEST REVIEW-DONT SHOOT...
