On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina — Restaurant in Topeka

We eat there frequently & last weekend I ordered the DosXX fish tacos. Waitress said she thought they were out of beer battered fish. A manger was standing nearby & overheard her & told me that he thinks they still have some and to go ahead and order it. I said ok then. I did. When our food came, I had "grilled" fish taco's and not the DosXX ones plus I got black beans instead of the refried ones I ordered. I told the waitress this isn't what I ordered & just then the manager comes back out & see's that the order wasn't right. It wasn't my waitress's fault. She TOLD me they were out, so I ordered the La Bandera. By the time I got my plate, my girlfrinds dinner was over half finished. So to make it better to me. Our dinner was free that evening & he gave us 2 more free dinners for the next time we came in. I gave the waitress an $8 tip for being good about it all & feeling sorry that my order got screwed up. Actually I went in there in the first place thinking they still had the all you can eat taco special going on & it was over with. It is still a good place to go eat & relax over dinner. I think they did a good deed for messing up my dining experience for that particular evening & I really didn't mind the extra wait......someone else mighta screamed at them, but I am not that way. My experience with them was good. AND on another occassion 2-3 years ago there, we had just placed an order when a big thunderstorm came thru one evening & knocked out the power. The power was off for like 30+ minutes. It wasn't crowded that night anyway & the manager then came to us & gave us like 7-8 empanada coupons and 3-4 free con queso coupons for our inconvenience due to the thunderstorm. All I have to say is that the Topeka "On the Border" does good by it's customers.......for ME...

Let me tell you about my service Monday night December 4th 2023 at On the Border and why I Will Not be returning. Wanted some fajitas remember that on the border has some very good fajitas with this very good tasting garlic sauce. Looked at the menu seen that the fajitas were almost $10 more than what they normally cost but that's okay I'm treating myself. Place my order get,my order, noticed my shrimp we're just still attends to light pink for me so I asked the waitress if she could take them back and put them on the grill for maybe a couple more minutes. She told me that I could just put them on the plate and they will cook. 😩😡 I was not only pissed because, she said what she said..but how you gonna tell me how to eat my food when I'm paying for it..!!! After I kind of looked at her for a second, then said okay she walked away in another waitress came and I asked that waitress if she could get the manager for me. She did, the manager Tim came over it was very polite. I told him what happened he apologized and asked if I wanted him to take the shrimp back to be cooked or just get another thing of shrimp, at that point I just was over it and I said just take the shrimp off so he said he would adjust the price of my meal and I continue eating my meal which was not good at all. the Quality is not the same , chicken pork dried out the steak was ok, but that Garlic butter which was the main reason why I use to get the fajitas... I posted what it looked like😩😩🤢. Will not be...

We ordered the Monterey Ranch chicken fajitas and asked that the server to make sure the peppers and onions we're extremely well done and add shrimp. When we got our food the onions were raw and there were no peppers. When we told the server the problem she took the whole entree back when we asked her if she could just leave it there while they made some well done peppers and onions. She said no they needed the onions to fix it. We tried to explain that we didn't want the meat well done just the onions and peppers. She obviously didn't understand what we were trying to explain to her. When our food got back the onions were actually cooked normal like they should have been done in the 1st place and they added 1 green pepper and a couple red ones. None of which was well done! Another person in our party ordered the three sauce burrito and the filling was cold. Not to mention none of our food orderers came with beans and rice and they all were between$10-$15. Obviously you had to order that separately but the server never asked any of us if we would like it added. The manager was very friendly and courteous when he came to the table after removing the 2 food items we had the problems with. Overall the visit wasn't too bad. However keep in mind when choosing to go here that you will pay a pretty penny for the extras that normally come with your dinner entree at other Mexican...
