FishBonz Grill — Restaurant in Torrance

My most recent visit was a family meal to go. They did have outdoor seating that was mostly empty. But we chose to take it to go. The food was great. It always is. My wife was craving their steak and lobster with their fantastic garlic butter sauce and she was very happy to come back here and have it. I had the fish and chips. I normally get there salmon salad but chose to go for the battered fish tonight so I could introduce batted fish to one of my kids, who did not object to it.The battered fish is fantastic. I would even say it is the best battered fish you can buy. Always flaky and soft and a very mild flavor. I grew up in a family that ran a fish and chips shop and I could tell you that FishBonz buys high quality fish for their battered fish. There was plenty left over for the following day for two more meals. It really was great value. The food was ready in about 10 minutes. We don't often eat out and prefer to cook at home. My first time and not happy. I ordered lunch today and I was SO DISAPPOINTED!!!! Let's start by saying that it took over 20 minutes to get my food while I watched others getting their food in less than 10. I ordered the pan seared scallops which I asked for without butter and oil, just salt and pepper, due to a disease that I have and they were awful. Made with oil/butter, undercooked and tasted like they were cooked on a burnt grill. I tried to salvage them at home, but to no avail. I had to throw them away. What a waste of $17. Then I, also, ordered the shrimp and filet skewers. Could the shrimp be any smaller???? Again, the filet was cooked with butter/oil. Saturated. I had to try and soak it up with paper towels, just like the scallops. So, lunch $35.....in my stomach: ZERO. With all these Covid restrictions changing every week at the moment, last week of Nov. 2020 its take out only.

I tried to call in my order but there was a miss communication so instead of dealing with a phone order I decided just to drive there and order in person. I thought it would cost me alot more time but overall the wait was not long at all.

I ordered the Garlic Butter Butterflied Shrimp with fries & grilled Zucchini. (For the combo meal you only get 1 piece of fried Zucchini)

Usually it takes alot to fill me up but man did this plate do the job, the flavors were amazing and my shrimp were cooked great with a perfect amount of char on it.

Plate came out to around $15 bucks not bad for good quality shrimp and sides.
