Though I'm sure this place is great for a quick "grab n' go" coffee or bite, there are better options for brunch. This review is based on a visit for brunch that my friends and I made on the morning of Sunday, October 22, 2017.
The coffee shop advertised a small menu of brunch specials, but these were not immediately obvious. There was a small, laminated menu at the checkout counter listing the specials, but I had placed my order for a breakfast sandwich before noticing the menu. By that point, it was too late to change my order.
It's actually a good thing that I did not change my order. While my breakfast sandwich was of decent size for the price, my friends who ordered the specials received about half the amount of food that they should have for the price they paid. One friend ordered the French toast, while the other ordered an egg white scramble. Both left the establishment hungry. While I recognize that the primary business of this coffee shop is quick, "grab n' go" sales, it should not advertise brunch dishes unless it intends to do them well and offer a substantive amount of food per order. We actually ended up making more food to fill ourselves at home, as we had left hungry.
I still give this place 2 stars because the coffee was good and the counter attendants were polite and friendly. Had our visit been made under different circumstances, the rating probably would have...
Read moreI have visited NY Beanery many times over the past few years. It has never been “ I can’t wait to go back” great. The coffee was just OK, the staff never really seemed like they were happy or enjoyed what they were doing. I have continued to stop in over the years because they are local and I’m always willing to give another shot. My daughter wanted a cold drink and a treat the other day so we stopped by again. Glad we did—- I definitely noticed an improvement. I ordered an espresso. It was much better than in the past— it didn’t have the burnt taste, instead it was smooth and earthy. Daughter order a choc choc chip muffin and a strawberry lemonade refresher. She devoured the muffin with full approval. The refresher had a strawberry jamb on the bottom of the cup. She was not a fan…..the taste was ok but the texture was off-putting. The shop was clean and tidy. The staff was smiling and engaging/friendly. Parking can be challenging at times. I think, or at least hope that NY Beanery has turned the corner. I left with a positive feeling, noticed an improvement with barista interaction, product and service. Best of luck...
Read moren my visit to Amityville, I decided to grab brunch at New York Beanery. I went for their avocado fusion toast with a sunny-side-up egg and their seasonal caramel apple latte. Unfortunately, I had to wait for a whopping 20 minutes, even though the place wasn’t full, before my food and drink arrived.
To make matters worse, they forgot my whipped cream, so I had to ask for that separately. The coffee was a letdown, especially towards the end because they didn’t mix it properly, making the syrup way too strong and sweet. The avocado toast tasted great, but it was nearly impossible to eat with plastic utensils. Overall, it wasn’t the enjoyable experience I...
