I had such high hopes for this place but it was extremely disappointing. The service was fine. The reviews talked about how extraordinary the service is and i thought our server was polite and well informed. One thing that was odd though was at the end after sitting and waiting for some time (they had cleared off our table, provided a box, and we told the waitress we did not want anything else). I had to go to the register and ask if I paid there or if they brought me the check. I was prompted to do this because when i looked over to the bar area, three workers were just scrolling on their phones. (So it's not like I could flag someone down). There was legit 7 people in the restaurant (including myself and my wife.) Either way, service was average at best.
What was really disappointing was the food. My wife and I ordered the Argentina empanada. That was not bad, but it wasn't anything I would order again.
The real disappointment was the Parrilla Asado that was recommended to us by the waitress. This giant platter of meat may seem appealing, but the quality of "argentine beef" on it was very poor in my opinion. Every beef cut we ordered medium and came out as requested, but the meat itself was too fatty and not tender whatsoever (the non fatty parts). The two sausages were blood sausage and another "traditional sausage" that literally tasted like a Johnsonville bratwurst. The blood sausage looked so unappetizing that we didn't even touch it. It was cooked to the point of it bursting open. There were three pieces of what seemed to be fried chicken on there as well which were extremely dried out and overcooked (they were dark meat too). The side we chose were French fries, which tasted like they were cooked in old grease. The salad was fine, but its salad...so that's kinda hard to get wrong. They asked us if we wanted bread with our meal so we said yes and received these little toasted slices and some chimichurri. All of this was $60 which is extremely overpriced in my opinion considering the quality of meat that it came with.
To top it all off, I suffered the rest of the night with some really extreme indigestion. I think it may have been the French fries but either way have some pepto or tums with you for afterwards.
Will never come...
Read moreWho else loves a great food adventure? There’s something exciting about a menu that’s completely unfamiliar. When I don't know where to start, I always ask the server or the owners, "What do I need to try?" That was exactly our experience last night when we met up with Monica for dinner at El Gaucho Grill in Brookfield.
El Gaucho Grill is a cozy, family-owned spot with a fantastic blend of Argentine, Mexican, and Uruguayan flavors (hope I spelled this all correctly). The owners, Tony and Arlynne, are incredibly welcoming, and our server was a pro at guiding us through their menu. It was clear we were in for a treat!
Now, let's talk food! We started with the Provoleta—Argentine baked Provolone cheese with olive oil, spices, and toasty bread. And, of course, we had to try a variety of the House Specialty Baked Argentinean Empanadas with Chimichurri sauce! We sampled the Ham and Cheese, Mushroom and Cheese, and The Humitas. Each one was a little pocket of joy!
Anne, as expected, went straight for the Beet Salad—sweet burnt beets with baby arugula, goat cheese, and fresh oranges. It was fresh, tangy, and delicious!
For the mains, we went big with the Parrilla Asado/Grilled Meat Platter, which had a generous portion of bone-in short rib, grilled chicken, Argentine sausage/chorizo, and more. It’s a fantastic way to experience the diverse flavors they offer. We also tried the Milanesa Napolitana, a crispy fried beef steak topped with baked ham, melted mozzarella, and sliced tomatoes—definitely a crowd-pleaser!
Dessert was an absolute must. Arlynne crafts most of the desserts herself and it’s all delicious. From the Chaja Cake, to the Dulce de Leche Flan, to the Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta, to the Alfajor, each dessert was a delightful end to our meal.
If you're looking for a unique dining experience that transports you to another culture, make sure to visit El Gaucho Grill in Brookfield. It might be tucked away behind Potbelly's off Bluemound Road, but trust me, it’s worth the find! Go check them out and make sure to bring your appetite.

Read moreWe were very excited about eating here. My wife is a foodie, and we love Argentine parrillada. I took her for the Mother's Day celebration, but we regretted it very much. I think it's way TOO EXPENSIVE for what you get. The picture of the salad is a $8.50 Russian Salad, we felt insulted by this. The chimichurri is nothing but Argentine it lacks all the real ingredients and consistency of the original one. The meat wasn't covered on chimichurri, which is a signature of the Argentine parrillada. We got the feeling that the restaurant is trying to cut costs. The meat was not seasoned properly. One could tell that the right process wasn't followed. I want to say that the chorizo and morcilla we good, but I paid $160 for all this. It seemed outrageous. The service was very bad, we never got our water glasses refilled, they had only 1 waitress, the poor girl was very busy she tried to be nice but one could tell she was having a hard time handling all by herself. We ordered a mango juice, and since the waitress was busy, a lady with an angry face pretty much slammed the glass on the table and left. My son ordered a $28 Milanesa, which he didn't like at all. We are a family of foodies. we've tried several restaurants in Milwaukee, Madison, and Chicago, and I have to say that this is the WORST Argentine restaurant we've tried. We won't ever come back because on the little details, one can tell that they are trying to save money, like not having enough waiters, portion size, etc. They should realize that food is an experience happening in real time. If you mess it up, you might lose customers like they just did with us. For the price we paid, we could have gone to Bazzar in Chicago, which is a REAL Argentine owned restaurant. It's was definitely a bad experience. If you want to spend your hard earned money, go elsewhere, not...
