Caribbean Flavors — Restaurant in Town of Brookhaven

This place hurt my heart because I desperately wanted to LOVE this place! I was sooooo happy to see my culture food local to my job! The drive thru is amazing! So I had to return to make sure I was fair. First day, I got curry goat! I was told Large was the only option. I spent $40.00 in which I thought that’s a bit much with drink/patty. Was sure to tell the best host “easy on the rice and more cabbage” they complied and we spoke briefly of establishment. I told him I’d leave a review. This day was rice, cabbage and a lot of gravy & bones! Hurt my heart… Not the money but I knew I had to leave a review. Decided to return for REDEMPTION! Told the same host my experience and from my opinion he should’ve maybe offered a discount but I got oxtails and this time a medium was an option with a patty and drink! Despite it being a medium, it was oxtails and it was still $30.00 for rice/bones, cabbage with plantains (not ripe enough for me) I think it’s stewed for so long that the meat falls off the bones and they pile it up (well not really bec the portions don’t really match the price for me. Patties were delicious. Unfortunately, I won’t be back here unless it’s for a patty. Dinners are too pricy to be paying for rice. One last thing, asked for extra gravy and I had to circle back it’s like gravy is gold and they don’t be trying to give it up! All and all I wish the establishment well but after 70$ spent I’m not satisfied outside the patty! I forgot to mention ALL of the gravy, rice, cabbage was good and the tif bit of meat, that was available was flavorful and good. I was extremely disappointed in this establishment. On a Saturday afternoon, I ordered through the drive thru. The worker said one price that didn’t add up for me so I inquired and he said that the price posted on the drive thru was wrong and that they raised the prices. I let that pass but asked for a receipt which I did not receive. From then on this worker purposely made sure that my experience was terrible here. He told me to pull around and wait for my food to be ready. I waited for 15 minutes and watched as 2 people behind me were served. I then went through the drive thru again and the worker said that the food still wasn’t ready as he mockingly laughed at me for asking. He then told me to pull around AGAIN and said that he’d bring the food out for me. I waited another 10 minutes and then he waved at me from inside the restaurant to tell me to drive my car through the drive thru a THIRD TIME. The worker then joked that he still wasn’t done. Not only did I wait about 45 minutes for my food through a drive thru and experience rude service but the food he served me was absolutely deplorable. The rice tasted like it was days old and stale, the curry goat was saturated in salt and had basically no meat, the cabbage was extremely salty and the plantains were in a pool of oil. For Caribbean food....this post is a loooong time coming. Caribbean Flavors in Port Jeff. I love this place. This is my Caribbean go to spot. DON"T SLEEP on this place. Everything about this place reminds me of old school Caribbean kitchens especially the food. I love the vibe of this place. The food is great and consistent. I am from Brooklyn and there are plenty of Caribbean restaurants there. I found/stumbled on Caribbean Flavors a little over a year ago and now I don't have to go to Brooklyn for Caribbean food. I have yet to be disappointed. The owner Steve McKail surprised me...but thats on me. He has been featured as a chef in several newspapers. I have to give him props because the food and service is great...and he is a big man like me so he knows how we like to eat. I only want Steve hooking up my plate (always a large because any other size is a tease for a big man). The other workers and like busy bees and always on the move.
