Everyone working at this deli seems to have a huge chip on their shoulder. Might have been a great place 40 years ago, I don't know. The food can be really good on the right day but it's not worth the price of admission. If the owner or anyone else you encounter is in a bad mood they'll deliberately screw with your order or just treat you like dirt here. If you complain they stare at you like you're an idiot. I don't know how many times I've gotten raw, runny eggs or some random abomination like mayo on my egg sandwich ordering food here simply because I didn't specify to not do that when whoever took my order was hungover and feeling grouchy that morning. Last time I set foot in Wunderbar the guy behind the counter yelled at me because I asked if they were still serving lunch at 2:38 in the afternoon(their lunch special is supposed to end at 3:30 but everything was already being put away). I don't mean that he seemed annoyed. He actually started obnoxiously complaining while he waved his hands in the air and raised his voice at me because I was making him do his job. Like I was wasting his time by trying to give him money. I told him to forget it and walked out and the guy kept mouthing off at me while I was going out the door. It seems to me that the owners stopped caring here years ago for whatever reason. Everything on the shelves is dusty and in many cases over its expiration date. The positive reviews here all seem to be from older people who have been going there since the 70's. Comments saying things like "long lines for crispy bacon worth the wait!" are false advertising. There hasn't been a long line at this place in probably 15 years. Maybe they treat their older customers better or maybe those people see getting treated with contempt by a guy behind a deli counter as "old school" and get some kind of kick out of it. All I know is that I'm never going back to this place and this is after defending them for years....
Read moreUnimpressed. Moved to Port Jefferson a year ago ,having been a resident years before I remember this place as being better. Stopped in on a Sunday Morning out of convenience to get egg sandwiches. Possibly Hungover girl working counter didn't want to be bothered with people and she let me know it as soon as I asked a question. Her crappy attitude was really bad for customers. Ordered 3 sandwiches again dealing with her rude demeanor and then waited a long time for them. Not busy when I walked in but a few more customers arrived and went through the pain of ordering. Sausage egg and cheese was good according to my wife, not great ,eggs beyond over easy not the way I ordered. Over easy with bacon on a roll wasn't much better. Lots of bacon, but a poor quality bacon that was obviously deep fried and lacked any real bacon flavor. The eggs were overcooked again.Bacon was Possibly cooked the day before? that was my guess as to the poor texture and taste. My sandwich which was egg whites, ham and cheese should have been named Ham with a little cheese and hardly any egg. 1/16" of egg white lost in the white roll ,hardly discernible from the roll itself . A truly poor sandwich . Not to mention all the sandwiches were close to $5 each or more.I was not offered coffee or juice to accompany the sandwiches and didn't feel like asking the rude counter girl. Much better value and quality to be found a short drive away in Setauket as well as an army of happy customer service behind the counter.Will...

This would have been two stars if the person who took our complaint call was at all caring, because the employee who served us was fantastic. Note regarding customer service: hanging up on someone is NOT the way to get a customer to give you another chance.
Just went to Wunderbar on a review from July 2017. Perhaps Wunderbar has gone downhill in the past year, because our egg sandwiches were HORRIBLE.
They said they'd be over easy eggs on 3 of them...They were over hard. The bacon was a lump of tasteless, overcooked, dry meat.
When we called to complain, the man said, "Oh, sorry about that." And he hung up on us.
The only redeeming meal was the French toast, but when you only get LI egg sandwiches once a year, it totally ruined the day.
We each threw out half our sandwich (ate just enough to not be starving).
We will be going back to North Side Deli or Miller Place's Better on a Bagel to redeem this horrendously disgusting breakfast.
Don't waste your money on...
