My friends took me to Robinson's Tea Room about 3 years or so ago for my birthday, and while I would desperately love to rate this place 5 stars based solely on how hospitable, gracious, and lovely the staff was, I cannot in all good consciousness score this place above a 2. I'll break down my review into the good and the bad, and since I'm a good news first type of girl, here's what I loved about it.
1st Star: The awesome staff. When you come to Robinsons Tea Room, it literally feels like your best friends parents are cooking for you (if you have the type of best friend whose parents actually love you.) They are eager to accommodate and overall just super friendly and nice, the type of people you wouldn't actually want to say anything bad about.
2nd Star: Here's their shining star. Out of EVERYTHING at Robinsons Tea Room, their scones STEAL the show, easily. Whoever said their scones were bland I have to assume has no taste buds, because this place has AMAZING scones. I like to think of myself as a bit of a high tea connoisseur, having traveled north and south, east and west and internationally to try some of the best high tea around the world, and I can fully vouch for the scones at this place. If there was ever a reason to go here, it would be for the scones.
Now, onto the bad. I won't make this long winded, because like I said, I actually really wanted to love this place, but put simply, the food just isn't good. Everything else I tried on the menu besides the scones was bland and almost tasteless. The actual space is cramped and uncomfortable, and for as NICE as the people were there, they were a little flustered and all over the place. Wish I could say the service was better, but when someone actually did come over to check on us, it was definitely service with a smile! The tea selection was small and unimpressive for a place that specializes in tea, and the finger sandwiches were underwhelming. What's holding this place back is really the quality of its tea and food, and unfortunately, when you're running a tea shop, that's kind of important.
But these are probably the best scones I've had in all of...
Read morePlease RUN if you care about your money being wasted! The reviews left on here are really fake reviews. I would not give review if not honest. It's a small decorated place but "bad food" quality! Do not go here for your birthday or special occasion. You are wasting your money and time. The photos are deceiving. I was scammed. The food is really bad quality, not homemade either. Bland, like canned food , no quality sandwiches, low quality and I was shocked at how bad it is for the prices! High prices for bad quality food! I'm being really honest. My father spent around $ 60-100. And the desserts even worse and the tea quality too! This has nothing to do with the hair found in my salad. I called them for refund. The woman manager was away on vacation. Even after her vacation she said no to refunding me. I should just take them to court because it's 2 people against a manager, who was not even there at the tea room. My father is a witness to the food being bad and myself and poor service. 2 people felt the same way! And it was my birthday! They did not care and never refunded my father. There should never be a hair in a salad or meal! The money spent on my birthday was wasted. The service of waitresses was horrible. She should never have got a tip either. Not accommodating and too busy to pay attention to simple things (like honey for tea, dressing for salad ). No one really paying attention just busy with only about 12 tables! . Also very loud noisy place, having to talking over each other and try to hear. And 1 bathroom occupied frequently not good for a senior waiting to use bathroom. would never recommend this place not just about the hair but mainly "the food quality and desserts, and tea...
Read moreI truly wish I could give Robinson's 80 stars! This place is the gold standard for a calm outing with friends, family, etc. The decor is tasteful and bright and the food and tea is perfect to curb mid morning cravings. (I would live only on the rose tea if I could!) I absolutely love that it is a place where you can get a little fancy or just drop in wearing jeans.
But here is where it gets good!
I moved a few years ago to the west coast. Luckily my family still lies in the area so I demand we go every time I'm in town. Recently I was having a hard time thinking of a thoughtful, yet also useful, gift to get my mother for her birthday. The opposite coasts thing makes it even more difficult. That's when Robinson's popped into my head! I called them up and asked if I could get a digital gift card for my mom. Turns out they only do physical gift cards (I was crushed) but right as I was about to give up hope the delightful young lady on the phone said "Oh well where does your mother live? I like to drive and I'd be happy to drop it off at her house at the end of my shift!"...I WAS AMAZED! LITERALLY JAW-ON-FLOOR! After giving her all the praise and thanks I could without being a total creep I gave her my mom's address and the perfect gift was delivered directly to my mothers mail box around 5/6pm that night. I'm now kicking myself because in my utter awe I didn't get the kind women's name (If you see this please let me know!)
Anyway...rant over...I hope it is clear how highly I recommend Robinson's Tea Room...
