We visited Rudy's V&R at their new location at the West Albany Italian Benevolent Club on Exchange St off Everett Rd in Albany. New location is spacious and they will host parties & special events. Formerly they were on lower Madison Ave in Albany, We went for dinner on Sat 2/19/22 at 6pm. No reservation, but they are recommended. We were greeted by owner Sasha and had a drink at the bar before we were seated in front of the big sunny window in the bar area dining room. The big dining room is off of this area, My bride had the veal piccata ($25) and I had the calamari Fra Diavolo ($25). All meals come with a really nice salad (not just iceberg with one cherry tomato) but with a hearty mix of fresh veggies & warm bread (w/ oil & butter). Meal were hot, hearty, & full of flavor. My bride took half of her meal home. I ate all of mine. A very good & tasty value. Rudy's offered traditional Italian fare but makes all to order so don't be impatient for good food, enjoy that second glass of wine. Rudy's also offers lunches ($10-15) and breakfast ($6-12) on Fri, Sat, & Sun. Hours are: Mon — Closed Tues — 3:00PM-9PM Wed — 11AM-9PM Thurs — 11AM-9PM Fri — 8:30AM-9PM Sat — 8AM-9PM Sun — 8AM-9PM We enjoyed our many dinners at there previous location and they have gotten even better here. We highly recommend Rudy's V&R and will will be back. Looking forward to trying breakfast soon. Thank you Sasha and Rudy. We hope you continue to have much well deserved success in your future. We started with wine ($8) and shared fried calamari ($13) - excellently prepared & a cold antipasto ($14) - enough for 4. Dinners were eggplant rollatini ($13) w/ a side of broccoli rabe ($9), lasagna ($21) very large portion, & chicken saltimbocca over penne ($25) - excellent. And the birthday girl had chocolate mousse for dessert ($4.75). An excellent meal with enough to take home. Always great food & service at Rudy's. Read moreI heard V&R Restaurant has moved to a new location. It moved from Madison Avenue to the West Albany Italian Benevolent Society on Exchange Street. My partner and I went with some friends to their new location.
The special of the day was bruschetta made with tomatoes from Sasha’s garden, eggplant rollatini made with eggplants from Sasha’s garden, salmon over spinach in a white wine sauce, and grilled veal chop.
We started out with a glass of wine each. Shared the appetizer of bruschetta which was absolutely delicious and very tasty. Then we had the house salad that accompanies the dinner. I had the veal chop which was a good size with pasta on the side. It was the best veal chop I have ever eaten. It was perfectly seasoned and cooked. My partner had the salmon which was a generous portion. It was cooked perfectly and it came with spinach and pasta. One of our friends had the eggplant rollatini which was a generous portion over pasta. Too much to eat for one sitting. Our other friend had the Shrimp Alla Vanessa which is a house specialty consisting of pan seared shrimp sautéed with spinach garlic, olive oil and white wine and served over pasta. The entrees were very generous and no one had room for dessert.
We were all happy with our meals. Also glad that Sasha and Rudy opened the restaurant again. We missed enjoying their...
Read moreI am always looking for a great family-owned Italian restaurant. This was the worst Italian meal I have had ever. The pasta clearly was left in hot water and scooped out to be served. it was mushy and cold. The sausage over the clams was pre-cut up salty and tasted freezer burnt. The veal (it was supposed to be veal) was tasteless and tough. The sauce was burnt. The bread we were served when we finally asked for and got a half hour later came to our table cold.clearly it had been in the refrigerator and it was not fresh bread. The salad was bagged salad and I was ok with that. The shrimp cocktail was a shameful example. It was 4 small/medium shrimp on a plate with a center plate of cocktail sauce. Worst presentation ever. We did speak with Rudy's wife and she apologized! She stated that nothing was frozen. Come on! So, as an Italian in support of Italians this disappointed me greatly and I am sorry but it was truly...
