Fate led us to Burrata and happy we are that she did! A friend and I were on the way home to Connecticut from competing at the Westminster dog show in NYC. Neither of us had taken the Hutch out of the city before so we decided to try it. Don't know what it was but it became a parking lot at one point. We decided to get off at the New Rochelle exit and look for a place to get a bite to eat and let the traffic ease up. (Must have been a major traffic event - lighted police cars blocking several access roads in town). We were tired, the weather had been miserable in the city, we should have been home in time to watch friends in the Group competition on TV and it had already started.
Siri suggested an assortment of restaurants, we chose Burrata because it was the closest. What a find! We parked in a lot around the corner and went in. The inside was small and pleasant enough, we got a table near the window. A mix of adult-only and family parties. We looked at the menu and were blown away. Clearly it was going to take a while to choose - everything looked delicious - so we ordered a glass of wine! The pinot noir was perfect for my tastes and my friend loved her pinot grigio. We decided on two appetizers - the burrata for her, and the roasted carrots on whipped ricotta for me. After the first bites, the misery of the trip faded away. The toasted bread for the burrata was fragrant with a hint of rubbed garlic and a very delicious olive oil. I could have eaten the carrots as a larger dinner entree, and it was so good I sacrificed a small amount to take home for the DH to try. For dinner we had the gnocchetti with lamb bolognese and the prosciutto pizza with smoked mozzarella, balsamic red onions, arugula, and pecorino. We kept laughing with delight that we had found such a wonderful meal at such a random, unplanned stop. After saving a small taste of my gnocchetti for the DH, we ordered the Zeppole for dessert. Sorry honey, nothing left of that! Our waiter was charming and informative and the food arrived in good time. Our only regret is that we don't live closer!
If I were being picky, I would ding a quarter of a star for the following: (1) Would have liked the centers of the pizza crust a tad crisper. It didn't keep us from eating every bite though. (2) We asked to have separate checks but were told they couldn't do it. Please don't ask two women traveling together to whip out our phones to divide the bill. It's not pretty. Plus, I tend to tip higher if a restaurant will provide that courtesy. Luckily it was about an even split and we're good friends. (3) No American coffee service. Okay, we lived through it and had expresso. Such minor things, didn't affect the enjoyment of the meal at all.
Happy and rested, we headed to our car parked in the lot just around the corner, Buzzkill! A $25 parking ticket. Yes, there were meters, but it was dark and no visible instructions about them (looked like someone had hammered stuff off of them), and we made the mistake of thinking that, as in our neck of the woods (Hartford area), nights and weekends were free. Lesson learned! Feed the meter, then feed yourselves at...
Read moreI was recently invited to this restaurant by a couple of local friends in that area and I have to tell you we were extremely disappointed. Let me explain why...
The first time we went we were told that we needed reservations, so we came back the following week with reservations. We went on two different occasions to try to get a table. Unbelievable, huh? So, we made our reservations, and were left standing by the exit door for nearly an hour and a half. Can you believe that??? This was completely unacceptable! I knew from the VERY first time that this place sucked!
We were a group of five. Furthermore, we gave the restaurant ample amount of notification as per our reservation, but they had us waiting like a herd of cows. The only reason why my wife and I did not leave, was because my friends and their daughter wanted to try this particular restaurant. So, I supported them.
In addition, the place is very very small. Understandably, the influx of people that were there was overwhelming. After 45 minutes we inquired about our reservations and was told (as per a waitress at this restaurant). “You are still standing there, because the owner has invited all his friends and has forgotten about his customers“. She completely “threw him under the bus”. I couldn’t believe it, lol! I knew there was an issue, because we were standing there like a bunch of idiots! After I made a third inquiry to the hostess. We were finally seated. The only thing about this place that was remotely professional was our waitress. The food came out very late too. The pizza was burnt! The waitress was very embarrassed, but we did not make a fuss. We just wanted to eat our food and leave.
Now, I don’t expect “a red carpet“ when I go to any restaurant. But, I do expect some type of respect as a customer. But during that hour and a half of standing. I did take notice that the tables were full and no one seemed to leave. If there was some type of party for a “grand opening“. Then maybe there should have been a sign posted to alert the customers of the wait.
I told my friends that we should leave, because there are other great restaurants in the area like Ciao. But, since my friends were looking so forward to trying this particular place and their brick oven pizza. I had to be patient and optimistic.
The food is completely overrated and over priced as well. Like I mentioned before, the pizza was burnt to a crisp too. I’m sorry brother, whom ever owns this establishment, but we will never return. Furthermore, I will let all the civil service workers that I know; such as: firemen, police and EMS in your district of Eastchester, Bronxville, Yonkers and the NYPD of the way we were disregarded that night. Trust me you will not get the support of niether department.
Finally. The owner was present and didn’t seem concerned whatsoever. Therefore, you completely lost my respect and business. We will kindly take our annual boys night out, appetite, money and company functions elsewhere. Good luck with...
Read moreI rarely write reviews - but thanksgiving eve warranted this post. My fiancé and I have been dying to try this restaurant. With the great reviews and always busy- we excitedly made our way over on Wednesday night. We called ahead to find out when the kitchen closed and were told 9pm and said we’d be right over. We arrived at the restaurant a little before 8:30 and the hostesses looked instantly annoyed and said “okay just know our kitchen closes at 9.” We were a little taken back but didn’t think too much of it. We were seated next to the giant pizza oven and were excited to order and try the famed pizza! A gentleman took our drink order and he was incredibly polite. But then, when it came time to order, at 8:40, a rude waitress who I can only describe as having a brunette ponytail, came over tearing up a menu in her hand looked at her wrist, never made eye contact and said “our kitchen closes in like a minute so you need to order” with a scowl on her face. My eyebrows raised but I said “that’s fine” and proceeded to order. When asking for the prosciutto pizza she laughed and goes “oh my god. I totally forgot to tell you. We’re out of pizza”
I was STUNNED. I turned to my fiancé after she walked away and said “exactly what part of the pizza do you think she’s out of?” how are you out of pizza? Then I look to my right, they were closing up the oven and shutting down the pizza kitchen. Why seat us and then close your main entree?! You were not out of pizza, you seated us with the hope we wouldn’t want pizza so you could shut down earlier and get home before the anticipated closing time. When we ordered you said the first thing you could think to say, that you ran out of pizza. It was just dumb. We would have gladly come back another time - but now with drink orders in and it being too late to go anywhere else we were stuck. She was rude, incompetent, and by the way - costing your business money! We came ready to order pizzas and pastas and looking to have a great night. This was awful service! We ordered the chicken entree and the rigatoni and they were delicious- truly the food was great. But the service this woman provided spoiled the entire experience and we will never be returning.
I would like to add. The gentleman who took our drink order was great and there was another waitress who had her hair clipped into an updo that salvaged the night and made us feel welcome and well taken care of. Thank god for them because they were the only reason we didn’t make a stink at the restaurant in front of patrons. They were truly how service in an establishment should be. Ponytail should take...
