I really enjoyed the bacon double cheeseburger with fries. I do wish, however, that Freddy's carried real cheddar (especially given this location is in Wisconsin!) as an option, vs the processed American cheese. (Yuck!)
Absolutely LOVED the cheese curds! Way to go Freddy's!
So why the 3 stars when I could've easily given them 5?
They employees here REALLY NEED to learn how to make a chocolate malt!!
FIRST attempt at getting a malt:
#1. NEVER MAKE A MALT WITH CHOCOLATE CUSTARD! I dunno if that's the corporate recipe or what, however, it's a terrible idea. 'Freddy' ... please stop doing it that way if indeed that is your corporate sop. Going forward, please use vanilla custard & chocolate syrup & of course malt syrup.
#2. IF you're going to use malt powder, make sure you guys mix it well... Drinking a malt & having large chunks of (still dry) malt powder come through the straw is just awful.
#3. When you're done making the malt, please have the courtesy to wipe off the cup sides - so it doesn't have custard running down all sides of the cup. A customer should NEVER have to request that the cup be cleaned / wiped off before picking it up.
Ok... Exit the building & really hoping to enjoy this malt as much as I did dinner right? So I sat in my car trying to choke it down & not wanting to be 'that guy' but I couldn't - it was simply too awful. I LOVE chocolate, however, that was so overpowering I couldn't even get more than a couple sips down.
SECOND attempt at getting a chocolate malt:
So I went in & explained & they were cool about remaking it. Great! Right?! Wrong...
#4. They remake it & it 'looks' ok, however, this time they hardly put any malt in & it was more like a vanilla shake than a chocolate malt as there was hardly any chocolate flavor.
#5. If you're going to make a malt, please make sure you get that blender all the way down to the bottom of the cup... Having the bottom quarter of the cup be a big chunk of unmixed custard was not cool.
I simply wasn't going to go back in a third time, so I went home, stirred it up & added some chocolate syrup I had at home I tried to salvage the experience.
So the food gets 5 stars, & the attempts at making a malt gets 1 star = 3 star rating.
Really wish I could've given you guys 5 stars across the board, but yeah, ya'all need to go to...
Read moreFreddy's is a west coast verision of Culver's. It Excels at being alright. The "steakburger", is actually a smash burgers similar to that of Culver's. The meat quality is the same as Culver's. So If you're looking for a steak burger, this isn't the place. I got the California double and it was alright. The meat was good and crisper that that of Culver's. Although I would argue that because Culver's burger have butter on them, they taste beefier than Freddy's.
Is it better than Culver's? No. About the same with less variety than Culver's. At $8-9 at that point you're competing with Bars that are known for good burgers around that price range. So is it better than burgers of the same price range? No. Go to brewery and order your burger there.
Fries:
The fries are "shoe string fries and they are honestly difficult to rate because these are completely opinion based. I'd say they are above average when it comes to "shoestring fries." Personally Belgian style fries would be arguably the best type of fry.
Cheese curds:
Yes, these are far superior than the ones at Culver's. Culver's cheese curds are always 50% breading to 50% frozen cheese curd. These at 10% breading to 90% cheese and they taste fresh. So these are far better here, but you can't order them in a box like at Culver's. It's also worth mentioning that they are a dollar more for the large size curd compared to Culver's large sized curd.
Onion rings: Meh, they are okay. 2/5 stars.
Overall: service was bad because of how busy it is. The girl giving me my food forgot my drink, dipping sause, napkins, and a bunch of little things to expect from a place that just opened.
Is it better than Culver's? No, but cheese curd wise yes.
Do they anything better than anyone else? Not really. With the prices where they are at, they are competing with local businesses that have better food.
But this places is good, you won't come back thinking about any of the top, just you're wallet will be mad at you for...
Read moreFirst store in Wisconsin , more to follow. Still very busy inside and drive thru is crazy long. Been open about 2 weeks. Inside seating is limited , there's some seating outside. Inside , the acoustics and all the noise makes it very hard to carry on a conversation. There's two distinct areas to pick up food, one just for custard items and another area for hot food so you must pay attention to the number being called over the PA system for you. The quality of the food is reasonable for a fast food restaurant keep in mind to ask for all your condiments when you pick up your food there are no dispensaries in the store for self-serve You must ask. The only item is that is self-serve are the Pepsi products napkins straws and lids. I must admit they are conscious of plastic pollution since they use paper straws. Been there several times and the food is consistent when you do order chili cheese fries, it could be a meal all by itself a lot of chili cheese sauce and onions. Everything is made to order, and the calorie counts are clearly posted on the menu board. Burgers are ordered single double or triple but you have no idea if it's a quarter pound and a half pound gear etc. Every interaction with staff has been exceptional very friendly you ask for a box or more condiments and they're more than willing to help. For me now it becomes a toss-up going to Freddy's or Culver's. Colors if I want soft cushion seating with great acoustics and the staff runs the food to your table or hard benches and you have to listen for your number. Freddy's does offer a unique custard dessert for kids called dirt and worms. Try Freddy's , it may be...
