I was getting food next door when I saw Deli Santaneca's 'grand opening' sign. I stopped in and was greeted by Patricia to get a menu. She was incredibly kind and mentioned that they will have physical menus next week. I decided to go the next day to try their pupusas.
I walked in and was warmly welcomed by Monica and Patricia. I took my girlfriend here too since she never had this style of food before. They offered all sorts of food that I was not familiar with and Monica did a wonderful job in explaining and helping us decide on what we should try. We were both introduced to tamarind and loroco for the first time, really good! Patricia insisted we try the tamarind drink. It's fantastic, sweet/sour fruit, hard to explain but definitely worth getting. We truly felt welcomed, like family.
We tried a bunch of pupusas. Cheese, cheese and pork, cheese and loroco, and cheese, pork and beans. If you have never had loroco before, it tastes similar to spinach. They made all of them fresh, steaming hot and served with curtido (cabbage dish) and a tomato salsa. These were easily the best pupusas I've ever had and my girlfriend enjoyed them tremendously.
As we were about to leave, they insisted we try their enchiladas. They were kind enough to send us on our way with a little to go box. That was a incredibly nice gesture, thank you. I tried them even though I was super full already and devoured it. I am used to mexican enchiladas where there is melted cheese in a soft flour tortilla. These enchiladas are different, think flat corn with chicken and the works on top. They had this sweet red sauce on them too, SO GOOD. Definitely worth trying!!

Read moreNo frills here (or air conditioning) but the food was good and the place looked clean. For gluten free pupusas you can't go wrong. Give the revueltas (half cheese half meat) a try. Very happy that there's good salvadorian food around. I want to try their traditional breakfast one day.
Edit: I just microwaved a pupusa for a minute from a week ago and it's...
