Brimstone here for the Food Hounds, bringing yet another Tidbit of delicious knowledge to your attention! From now on... when I hear or see the term, "Eat at Joe's" -- I'll be thinking of Joe from over at Gonzo's Mexican Grill. This cozy little place has been a mainstay on Long Island for over ten years and I can honestly say that there's truth in things getting better with age. The restaurant itself is located on a main street which makes parking a little bit of an issue; however we found the the food was well worth the 1/2 block walk. Let me start by saying that Gonzo's has a REALLY cool vibe; one wall is adorned with photos of the owner with a variety of different celebrities (including Albert Einstein - they are all doctored), which adds to the uniqueness of Gonzo's. Joe literally has a phenomenal sense of humor and passion for what he does which adds to the appeal of dining here.
We started off with an array of different goodies that were bursting with flavor! The Guacamole was made fresh for us on the spot and was served with three different salsas and chips. We had fantastic tostones which were lightly seasoned and were still a little moist in the middle (I REALLY enjoyed them and I normally do not). I was given a winning mixture of Guac and Mayo (I think was called Mayomole) that was full of flavor and was unreal on the steak and chicken Empanadas. We had a Mexican Rice Ball that was reminiscent of the Italian version, except it was stuffed with black beans and drizzled with a tasty blend of cheeses and a delicate sauce that was very good; but paled in comparison to the Gonzo's Mac & Cheese (with chorizo and other nummies mixed in) and the Gonzo's Chili which was nicely spiced and didn't disappoint.
Next thing on the menu for us was their award winning Gonzo's Wings... Oh damn. I've got to tell you how unbelievably fantasmic the wing sauce and wings themselves were. The wings were fried to crispy perfection and lightly glazed with sauce boasting a spicy-kick and an overall sweet taste. Followed up for the WIN by the Buffalo Burrito which is honored by the presence of the aforementioned sauce, breaded chicken breast, Mexican rice, mozzarella and bleu cheese. This burrito was simply orgasmic... literally shocked me how kick-a$$ it actually was. I'd absolutely order it again and again... and again! We had the Grilled Shrimp Salad with blackened and grilled shrimp (the portion was very generous) and then a couple of the featured Quesadillas. The BBQ Steak Quesadilla was off the hook and included fat trimmed bbq'd flank steak, sliced avocado (very generous with all the dishes containing avocado) and Cheddar cheese. Served with sour cream, this baby was the real-deal. We also had the Cabo Wabo Quesadilla with grilled chicken, sauteed mushrooms, onions and peppers, melted jack and Cheddar cheeses, lightly seasoned with breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese... and BACON! Bacon, bacon and MORE bacon!
Last but certainly NOT least, we had the Tres Leches Cake which is apparently soaked in three different milks and covered in white cream topping. The perfect end to a perfect meal. All in all, we really loved this place and everything that went along with it. All the food is low fat, healthy and prepared fresh daily. Everything is relatively inexpensive and you truly get a lot for your cash as everything on the menu is between $6.50 - $7.50. If I was you... I would make this a regular stop in your catalog of great...
Read moreThe workers are very nice. However, the prices were a bit high. The food wasn’t all that good. I don’t know what the big hype is about the place. The guacamole has an after taste. I tried gonzos a few years ago and didn’t like it. I thought maybe I got the wrong thing or something. A few years later I tried it again and I wasn’t impressed. I had way better Mexican than this. I got the nachos and two fish tacos. The nachos had way too many olives which took over the flavoring. Barely any beans or cheese on it. I also paid extra for gonzo sauce which was horrible tasting in my opinion. The fish was the only thing I enjoyed. They could’ve at least provided me with salsa and sour cream, but of course you have to pay extra probably even though I spent a fortune on the food. I know fish is more expensive but the nachos without fish was expensive. They only had the gonzo sauce to choose from. I’m disappointed. I thought it would be good after seeing all...
Read more⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I discovered Gonzo’s Mexican Grill in Garden City, NY through Facebook, and out of all the restaurants I came across, this one immediately stood out — and it did not disappoint!
From the moment I walked in, the owner personally greeted me with a warm welcome and engaging conversation, setting the tone for an amazing experience. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the food? Absolutely scrumptious.
The wings were meaty, full of flavor, and so good they didn’t even need sauce. The burrito, made with their special wing sauce, was hearty, flavorful, and downright addictive. Even the drink was perfectly cold and refreshing — just the right amount.
This place gets a 10 out of 10 from me. I’ll definitely be back and plan to bring family and friends next time. Totally...
