Il Luogo — Restaurant in Town of Hempstead

My husband and I had a 7:15 reservation for dinner on a Friday night. We arrived and no one offered to check in our coats, when it was clear a coat check was available. We were then showed a table in the main dining room. As we were getting ready to sit down, an older man walked over and told us he had a bigger table for us. Thinking nothing of it, we grabbed our jackets and followed the man through the crowded dining room. He led us to the very back corner of the restaurant, showed us a table situated behind a giant brick wall to block us from view for the other restaurant patrons. The homophobic move was evident. We requested the other table we had been given originally. Thankfully, they obliged. We decided to stay and enjoy our meal after a few minutes discussion. Let it be known however, the service we were given was sub par. For almost 15 minutes we sat there with no menu, no water, no greeting. When the waiter finally showed up, no menu was given to us. We had to request one in order to actually place our order. We ordered the house wine ($9/glass - which we were charged $10/each - another subtle move to tell us we were not welcome). Both the Merlot and Pinot Noir were disgusting. I highly suggest staying away from them. The main courses were under salted and over priced. Through the entire time we sat there, our water glasses remained empty while others around us had their glasses filled regularly. Our waiter never checked on us either. Run from this place!!! If I could give this restaurant no stars I would. We dined as a party of four and ordered 2 bottles of wine, 2 appetizers, 4 entries and 4 desserts. The waiter forgot to put in one of the dinner entries and forgot to put in one of the desserts. We left a partial cash tip and some one a card. The next morning we check out bank account and saw that we were charged double what we left for the tip. When we called to speak with the manager he told us he had the slip in front of him and our only option is a gift card or we would have to dispute with our bank. However, he said he had a slip that we wrote on and would also fight us with the bank. The manager was insulted by our tip even though he was not our waiter and was not previously aware of the other issues that I stated at the beginning of this review. I would NOT recommend this place based on service and the fact that they decided to add a tip they saw fit to my card. We drove back to the restaurant per the managers request to look over the receipt. When we arrived the manager claims he spoke to the waiter and they are returning the tip they charged. They REFUSED to show us the bill and receipt after us asking to see it multiple times. The manager claims they did not feel that was necessary because they are giving us the money back. HIGHLY RECOMMEND, WE LOVE IL LUOGO !!! DEFINITELY GOING BACK and tell people about that place. it’s now our spot to dine. This is my first time writing a review, I choose to do it to encourage the staff cause they made all of us very happy.There’s no word to describe this place. Best restaurant ever, the place is breathtaking, quiet, there’s parking ,I don’t drink but the bar is beautiful, the decor, OH MY GOD !!!! 😍. I went there last night which was a Friday night and everything was perfect, well organized , the man in the front I forgot his name welcomed us ,he directed us to our special table without waiting , food was delicious, we enjoyed the wine with the strawberry in it , they really helped with the birthday and was very special. That was what we were looking for . the gentlemen well dress all of them sounded great when singing Happy Birthday . desert was delicious .we even had a gentleman who took some pictures for us. great atmosphere, cozy, romantic ,we love the garden with the green and blue lights.we had absolutely nothing to complain about.
