I wanted to love this place I really did. I had such high hopes... and they were dashed with just one sip...I guess I understand the concept here. Bright, upscale looking, hip desert bar. This is a place for people who feel desert is actually a meal...at least that's what I gather from the menu of desert items that are...well to put it nicely obnoxious. One would assume this was a spot to grab a nice ice cream sundae and or a delightful after dinner snack...(that's what they told me dessert was supposed to be) but not here my friends. These deserts (the majority) are full on entrees. While the decoration and presentation of the dishes was top notch, there is no way that one should come here for dessert after dinning at a regular restaurant. One for the aforementioned reason and the second is the price. Now some may argue that you pay for the experience and while the staff was friendly and personable, the price to product ratio isn't adding up. Okay Okay...I know maybe I don't understand the dessert is dinner thing...fair enough. I did think that was the concept here after seeing the portion sizes of crepes with chocolate syrup drizzled so eloquently over each, strawberries abound. But then came the most important part...the taste. There wasn't any. The crepes weren't that light and thin and they were a bit bland. Now the real bombshell...the milkshake....folks if you're going to charge me twice what Burger King does (BKs shake is fake FYI) then it shouldn't taste exactly, and I mean exactly the same. I have a feeling they buy the same brand simple syrup which is just gross because honestly, the shakes taste identical. A bit of advice for the owner. ice cream, strawberries, sugar and vanilla extract are all that belong in a milkshake at that price. all in all skip this place your palate and wallet...
Read moreI was about half way through my dessert and already dreaming of going back, it was THAT good. Get there early, as they are a bit short staffed and so there may be a wait-- but trust me, it's WORTH it! The night we were there, it was about an hour before close, and the staff were obviously exhausted, but they still went above and beyond to be professional and friendly. They apologized for the wait for a table, and offered to give us takeout if we didn't want to wait, but again, WORTH the wait! I had the strawberry shortcake crepes, and I requested a bit of dark chocolate sauce and whipped cream. This is real, freshly made whipped cream, and they brought us a bowl of it big enough to share. I don't eat a lot of sugar, and this dessert was perfect-- the crepe was delicious with fresh sliced strawberries, and the custard sauce was rich but delicately flavored and just sweet enough to balance the berries. The coffee was amazing! Very robust and rich-- I almost thought they'd mistakenly filled my mug with espresso, it was so full of flavor. I was stuffed but still had to request a top off, and my partner tasted mine, and immediately changed his mind to get his own cup. He enjoyed the crepes with the brownie bites and dark chocolate sauce, but requested no ice cream. The staff charged him the price of a crepe desert without the ice cream, which was several dollars less expensive, even though we'd have happily paid the menu price. My only complaint was that the desserts are so enormous that I had to force myself to finish it, and couldn't have possible eaten seconds-- and there's so many options on this menu, trust me, you'll wish you could eat two! We can't wait to go back-- I would diet for a month for this indulgence of the White Rabbit Dessert...
Read moreThis location has been on my list for a while and I was excited to try some amazing deserts. I was sadly disappointed. I got 2 slices of pie (apple and cheesecake) to go. With tax and tip the amount came to $36+. I think it was $16 per slice for an average size slice - about 2" wide at the edge.
I know they say they use premium ingredients, but the cheesecake was like a mediocre grocery store desert. It didn't taste like NY cheesecake or homemade. It wasn't dense or creamy and didn't seemed to have been baked like a true NY cheesecake. I was excited about the strawberry topping, but that was the only garnish other than a sprinkle of powdered sugar and the thin drizzle mostly landed on the bottom of the container. Maybe sliced strawberries, whipped cream, a cholocate or cookie garnish?
Same with the apple pie and caramel. The apples were so overspiced that it was hard to taste the apples and it overpowered the little bit of carmel drizzle. It tasted like there was something more than cinnamon. Allspice maybe? The crust wasn't a traditional crust. It was almost more of a dry cake with the texture of a frycake. I guess I'm a traditionalist when it comes to apple pie. I don't think I've ever had apple pie with powdered sugar sprinkled on top.
The decor was beautiful, the menu sounded amazing, and the service was great. But not for the price. Maybe the prices help pay for the decor? I had expected amazing, over-the-top desert and felt like I ended up with generic slices of pie. There are amazing bakeries in the area - give a small, local place your business and maybe get something "decadent".
(Photos of my deserts - I know they are blurry. I'm a terrible food...
