Update - Our 10th year visit - August 2, 2023. was exceptional. We were fortunate to have Josh again as our waiter. He does such an amazing job. He always provides a wonderful guest experience!! The food is delicious, as always!!! The Early Bird menu can't be beat. There are many selections to choice from but the prime rib is suburb. It includes bread, house salad, main dish with 2 sides, and dessert. The bread pudding is so Yummy!!! Dining at the EXCEPTIONAL Caldwell House!! It has become a yearly event (our 9th year) and look forward to it so much. Customer service and FOOD is AMAZING !! All the staff are very friendly but Josh is absolutely impeccable in every way. Very attentive to your requests and strives to make your dining experience very enjoyable. I love how he waits until we have finished each course before bringing the next, not the type of service you get anywhere else these days. Arrive between 400-530 pm for the incredible early bird specials. Many selections to choose from to include Prime Rib, Shrimp Scampi, Salmon, and other items too. Includes salad, entree and dessert. The prime rib and bread pudding are to die for. Spludge on the pate and shrimp cocktail, ABSOLUTELY the best pate ever!! Our ultimate vice is the martinis!!!! Thank you for another memorable dinner and see you next year.

We stopped in here for dinner on Wedneday 26 September. Apparently they roll up the sidewalks in the Lake George resort area right after Labor Day, as very little was open on a Wedneday night. But then we found the Caldwell House... Locally it is called the Caldwell House and Martini Bar. The latter is well deserved. Our Martinis were excellent. It also appears to be a local joint, as the barteneder seemed to know everyone. It's a comforting feeling to be in a tourist place where they cater to friends and locals. Moving on the the food, I inquired about the choice between the Prime Rib and something called the Drunken Delmonico, given that they are the same cut of meat. The latter was coated in a mushroom sauce and recommended by the waitress, so why not? It was supposed to be a 22 ounce steak, but came out more like a roast and cooked to a perfect medium rare. The photo in this review shows what was left after I had given up. The atmoshphere here is a log cabin style restaurant with a central fireplace, probably dating to the 1940s. It could be delightluf in cooler weather if you can score a seat by the fireplace. We did not, but may try again if we are ever up that way in cold weather.

OMG, What a great experience. From the warm welcome we received to the exemplary service during the entire dinner. A cool rustic vibe very appropriate for the area. I had the Prime Rib with Lobster Tail, and the Prime Rib was their smallest cut. Look at the picture. Such a generous portion and cooked to perfection. I expected a minimal Lobster Tail to accompany this but was pleasantly surprised at the size and the flavor of this quality seafood. I asked the server (Josh) for what was made in-house for the dessert and again was amazed that they made a good portion of their desserts there. The Bread Pudding (homemade) was amazing and finished the meal perfectly. I would be remiss if I did not mention that my server Josh was outstanding at his craft. From his recommendations to the staging of the meal was perfection. After talking with him, it shows his experience at being their for 9 years. I highly recommend this venue and will return here often as I travel to this region on business. When I vacation here, it will become a regular dining spot. Bravo!

Horrible service - made me feel discriminated!!!!

At 7Pm of Feb 18, me and 6 other friends drove all the way from NYC to Saratoga for a long weekend, tired and hungry, and this restaurant was one of the recommended award winning place to eat according to my searches of the best in Saratoga. So i told my friends about it. We were a group of diplomats and nurses, and therefore decent people.

When we arrived this place, one of my friends went in to ask for a table for 7, while the rest of us waited in the car. She said she was told to wait because the tables will be available only in an hour, or 8PM. My friend went back to the car.

I said I will try to negotiate since I am better than my friend in doing that..

When I entered the place, the lady in front told us that there is no table for 7 people. She said the wait will be for 1.5 hours, or 830PM. I became suspicious - when my friend asked 2 minutes ago it was 1 hour and now it is 1.5 hrs? Sounds like she just does not want to sit us.

I asked nicely if she can give us a table for 4 and then then other 3 can just follow. She said there was none. I could see there are tables. I asked if they have a place where we can wait, like the bar. She said only 2 seats in the bar, but sounding like she does not really want us to wait there. I said I see empty tables. She said she need those for the reservations coming up. I asked what time is their reservation because if they are not coming in the next 30 minutes, then we will just eat fast. She said that is not possible. She said

I stopped being nice and just said "i don't think you are really trying one bit to accommodate us" still in a low voice and smiling. and then another elderly waitress passed by and asked what's happening. i said "i am looking for a table for 7". and the waitress chuckled and gestured using her arms signalling that it was hopeless.

I am an Asian and I suddenly felt i was being ganged up by 2 white women bullying me and driving me away. I have not been in a restaurant where I was laughed at and derided just because we are 7 - other restaurants would have rejoiced at having so much people coming in!

I cannot help but feel discriminated specially after seeing that everyone in the restaurant are white. If you get no smile, not even a bit, and no effort to find you a table, and just says no to everything you ask for, then there is something else there that is not just...

Following a dissapointing Italian dinner the night before on our Lake George vacation we decided to try another establishment. After seeing the fantastic reviews we figured it was a can’t miss.

Not sure why so many rave reviews. Let me start out by saying, the food is absolutely sub par, the service although very friendly was a bit slow too.

They start out by bringing a small dish of an assortment of three different types of crackers with some homemade whipped wine and horseradish cheese, I thought to myself, we’ll that’s different and a little odd. It was a sign of things to come....

French onion soup - way over seasoned, just let the flavors of wine, beef stock and onion do the work.

Bread - soft, not at all crusty and it came out warm and was still mushy not sure how that’s even possible unless it was microwaved. It came out with our salads which took over 45 min to get from when we sat down and placed our order.

Crab cakes - didn’t seem homemade, they were deep fried, they had an outer dark crispy crust that made them seem like a pre packaged prodcut. They were nothing like the homemade crab cakes I’ve had at many other places where you can see the lumpy crab meat because they’re lightly pan fried not coated in a batter. The crab cakes were sitting on a bed of spinach which had the familiar flat shape as if it was chopped frozen spinach.

NY Strip Steak - requested medium, temperature was between rare-medium rare with no grill marks to be found. Plus it was a large round shaped cut, nothing like the usual cut of ‘strip’ steak I’m used to. To top it off the steak came sitting on a bed of those pre packaged frenchs’ fried onions, not sure why those were needed honestly. Priced at over forty dollars I guess I was expecting better quality. I’ve honestly eaten better, tastier steaks in NJ diners.

Chicken fingers and French fries - no honey mustard, coated French fries.

The place was packed and with so many positive reviews, someone likes their food, just not me.

The NY cosmo I had...

We went yesterday because the reviews looked good and the menu looked good too.

I had a lemon drop martini. It was good. Then I ordered a dirty martini with Tito's. I couldn't drink it. It was pure vodka and I don't think it was Tito's. Even my husband was like...whoa....pretty sure the three sips I took put hairs on my belly it was so strong.

The French onion soup I ordered was good. However, I wish I had just stopped there.

We got there at 18h45 ish. We got our soups around 19h and then we waited until 20h20 for our main course. The people who were seated right before us ate and packed their food, then are dessert and stayed for drinks (they were at the bar) before we even saw our mains. My husband was about to just ask for the cheque when she showed up. She was really nice and it's not her fault but that type of wait is unacceptable.

I ordered this stuffed shrimp situation and the sweet potatoes were pureed like baby food. Also very sweet. I think the carrots were boiled in cinnamon which was weird and whatever they stuffed the shrimp in, was mushy and tasted weird. The shrimps were overcookedand hard to chew.

Overall, the people working there (hostess and waitress) were very nice. But the length of time for the food, my hair on the belly martini and my food itself (not the French onion soup that was good), were not great. For 145 usd, eh.

Oh, the log cabin restaurant is pretty. The decor...
