Living in Buffalo NY we often make the trip to Apple Granny's Restaurant. Usually the service is good, food excellent and reasonably priced. The decor I must admit has NOT changed in 15 years. Tonight will probably be the last visit and the end of an era for us. I ordered the Salmon, it was very dry and had a difficult time flagging Patty our waitress to see if there was some sort of sauce she could bring. One of my guests has the Fish Fry, not only did it smell bad, it tasted horrible. We all thought it tasted like bleach. Another companion had the baked fish and had the same problem. She returned her entree and received another. My friend with the fish fry returned his, but chose not to order another entree. (We did have appetizers and French Onion Soup). Here is the kicker, the owner did come to our table, we explained the problem and he offered to buy the person who returned his Fish Fry a drink. Seriously! How about taking the entree off the check! he was somewhat standoffish and not too concerned with the situation. I ordered another glass of wine when my dinner salad arrived. I received the wine when my buss person was clearing my dinner plate. The quality of food, the presentation, the slow service and knowledgeable wait staff along with (what I believe) poor management with a lack of customer skills, will prevent another visit. On the way out the door, another couple talking among themselves also made a comment about the quality of their meal and poor service. It's really to bad, Apple Granny's has always been a...
Read moreThis place is overrated! I should know by now if a restaurant advertises itself as "iconic", and "gimmicky" it's best avoided. I did want to avoid it, and only came here as every other restaurant in this town seemed even worse!
My steak was dry and had absolutely no flavor. Zero seasoning, and the A1 sauce they provided was too acidic, but it was better then eating it plain. The French Onion soup seemed fine at first, but by the third bite, it too also became too strong. And they put WAY too much cheese on it. We ended up scraping it off, because it was like eating rubber. Fries had zero seasoning on them. Not even salt. The bread had a very strange texture, and felt undercooked. The only somewhat decent thing were the ribs.
But my biggest complaint is the obligatory side dishes. You want ONE thing, they force you to order 10 others! I only wanted fries as my side dish, but was forced to order a salad I did not want. The other person in my party wanted a the French Onion Soup for the side dish, as the menu said soup is a choice, but was forced to pay extra, as well as get a side dish of French fries she did not want. As someone who hates wasting food, this put me in a really bad mood, that they force their customers to order things they know they aren't gonna eat!
The ambiance is cool, but that's really thing it has going for it. And I guess the price was also decent for the...
Read moreMy wife and I don’t get out.very often but this is usually one of the places we go to because they have something we really like. The prime rib is exceptionally good and even though it’s much more than we usually spend because of budget we recognize the quality and it is a rare treat. You get to the door and the specials are listed on a board including the soup choices which is nice but it could have been a little more helpful this time. We order our drinks and tell the waitress we are ready to order our usual when the drinks arrive but we’re told that one of the signature dishes, our reason for coming, just isn’t available (and we were pretty much the first to be seated for dinner so it wasn’t because of that).. We are trying to have a good night and paying for our drinks and taking off just seemed like it would have been childish but honestly if that’s going to happen just put it on the board because now our rare treat is just disappointment that we weren’t going to take out on the waitress so she got a decent tip regardless. The NY strip had a fair amount of gristle we took home for the pups and the night was a far cry from the experience we had expected. Just warn people when a regular menu item is unavailable, I think...
