I was very eager to order a cake from this bakery due to the amazing cake designs I have seen on their Instagram and site. I will not be a returning customer. September 11th I placed an order for September 18. When I called, i placed 2 orders a 6 inch round cake made without eggs and a 1/4 sheet(2 layers). Both cakes were suppose to be South Park Theme. First cake was 1 character and the second cake was suppose to have 4 characters. (5 characters all together) When placing this ordering I was put on hold because she was uncertain whether or not they were able to make 3D characters. I was told that the cake designer was able to accommodate 3D characters on the cake. While trying to placing the order, I was told multitudinous times that I should call back tomorrow because they couldnāt give a precise price. I was not concern with the pricing, throughout the conversation never once did I ask about the pricing. This honestly made me want to cancel the order because I felt like they were not taking my order serious. Continuously throughout the conversation, the same comment was made that āthey were not able to give me the price.ā Which numerous times I stated the the pricing did not matter, so I proceed with the order. I gave them my card number so they could make the charge, before the conversation ended. I gave them my house telephone number and my cellphone number. I was told that I would receive an email on the sketches of the characters. Saturday went, Sunday,Monday,Tuesday, Wednesday without a call or email, I wanted to call but I didnāt want to seem too eager. No email or call was made. I waited until Thursday and still no call or email . Me and my mother called at 8 AM. We were told by the owner that on the order sheet it did not saying anything about 3D characters. We were told that the cake designer may or may not be able to do 3D characters by tomorrow.(which was odd considering I placed the order a week before and I was put on hold so they could speak to the cake designer) Then the owner goes on to say that when people usually order these specific cakes are made 2 weeks before. Which was also quite peculiar considering that I was never informed about ordering it 2 weeks ahead, I was told they would be able to make it in a week. (Also I knew people who ordered from this bakery a week ahead and received a replica or a similar cake they wanted). The owner said they would have the designer call me back and said they had another technique to make the characters look similar to 3D figures. I agree and gave them the okay to construct it that way if they were not able to make the characters 3D.The designer called back and said she couldnāt make the 3D characters in time and i said yes for her to construct the characters using the other method, cake was scheduled for pick up at 1:00. The next day we arrived at 1:30 and the cake was not ready. They had a hard time locating the cake and I was told the characters were not on the cake yet. Six minutes later they found the cake and brought the cake out with 3 characters instead of 4 for the second cake. THE CHARACTERS WERE PRINTED POPSICLES STICKS that were stuck into the cake All in total was $140 for a cake that I could have made! Would of much rather spent $390 with 3d characters than this. They were not welcoming at all! The cake was 4 layers ( I measured the cake as soon as I got home). This was so humiliating, I was so eager to end up with a disaster. Birthday was truly ruined. Ā Ā Ā Read more4.5 stars. Visited here after a very enthusiastic review from our server at Griffon Gastropub in Niagara Falls. Lewiston is a lovely town and a great base to visit the area. And the Bake Shoppe is baked goods nirvana for those who love dessert. The selection of cakes, cookies, pie, scones, etc is truly Wonka-esque. It will have your head spinning. In a good way. Pictures could not do justice to the astounding variety of items available. This doesnāt even include anything savory for lunch which we did not try this visit. Our order today consisted of six items, most of which hit it out of the ballpark. My opinions- Cowboy Cookie-while the staff member who helped us claimed this was āthe worldās best cookieā, it didnāt reach that status but was definitely an outstanding item. Chocolate, nuts, coconut and some things Iām surely forgetting made a delicious cookie. Berry Scone-another great item. Baked perfectly, not dry, lots of fresh tasting berries. A big hit. Walnut brownie-wish we had ordered more of these. Moist, not too dense, full chocolate flavor and a nice crispy edge. I love brownies and this was really really good. Blueberry hand pie-I think they call them Pockets here. While to my taste the filling could have been sweeter, this blows away any famous store bought hand pie youāve ever tried. Packed with real berry filling and blueberry flavor. The crust was perfect. Banana Bread-large slice of delicious, moist bread here. Just the right proportion of nuts. To my taste, it was a little light on banana flavor compared to some Iāve had. Still ate every bite. Chocolate Raspberry cake in a cup-the only item resembling a miss for us. While it looked delicious the cake portion was quite dry and totally overwhelmed by the abundance of raspberry frosting. It was tasty but just too much. Many flavors of these to choose from so a different one may yield a different opinion. Hard to imagine a bakery anywhere doing the job they do here of turning out this much delicious looking product. They do a large quantity of custom orders also i am told. Wish I lived nearby or had a place near home that remotely resembled this hall of fame worthy bake shoppe. Canāt recommend...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreA friend I've not seen in 40 yrs came into town a few days ago where he is originally from. We met up and wandered around sightseeing.....funny, I've been here since I was 16 (in Buffalo) and not seen many places. He was giving ME the tour...LOL. Anyway, we stopped at The Village Bakery for coffee and some wonderful little cookies. We talked a couple hrs chatted with a few passersby and a gentleman that was at the next table waiting for his wife to buy a horde of goodies to take with them on their journey/vacation. The atmosphere of the blocks-long stretch full of people we joined was so festive and happy. There was music a few stores away out on the sidewalk....a guitar, and some folky music. It was 'enchanting' I'd say. I'm very sentimental and it was calling to my sense of calm. It was a very 'family' feeling, one of many I'd like to experience everyday. I always envisioned living in a little town where most of the residents know each other as neighbors and merchants and business owners as well as the medical professionals. I shall return soon to enjoy this once again, and hopefully with same friend before he returns to South Carolina in a few weeks or less. And then I will take another friend. So, do yourself a favor and head over there. You'll be glad you did, and altho I didn't yet, find a cafe/restaurant, or another to sit down to a meal that tastes even better due to the atmosphere/ambience. Take that experience...
