Modern on the Rails is a solid dinner spot. It’s a great location and the ambiance/decor is a total vibe. It’s definitely got an upscale feel, while also not being stuffy or fancy. You could easily go here for dinner in jeans and not feel out of place, but also if you wanted to dress up for a date night or special occasion, it would also be appropriate. The space is also really nice and is a good option if you were having a larger group or wanted to do a celebratory meal. The staff is friendly and attentive. The food is solid and the price is reasonable for what you are getting. They brought over bread to start and the bread was nice and warm. We started with the burrata app which weirdly came with 3 pieces of medium bread (same as the basket, but toasted or grilled). It felt like it should have been smaller crostini type bread and also more pieces given the app, but it didn’t matter because we had the warm bread basket. The app itself was nice, but not overly special. For dinner we had the burger and the squid ink pasta with salmon. The burger was good, but the sweet potato fries needed any kind of seasoning, even salt. The pasta was the best dish of the night. The salmon was cooked perfectly, the sauce was delicious and the pasta was great. Overall, I would definitely come back here again. It’s a nice spot with reasonable prices, great ambiance and service, and the food is solid.

Went for brunch with friends and the overall vibe of the place is very quaint and old school since it’s in the old train station. Definitely paying for the ambiance. However the food was good but not many options. I thought there would be an omelet station or meat station or even a toaster to toast the bagels but didn’t have any of that. The bagels were very small, only 1 pasta option, no crackers for cheese and the pizza they had was good but only had meat on the pizza each time. Homefries potatoes were yummy but I expected more options. They do have an upgrade for unlimited mimosas and other brunch drinks. Maybe I’ll try it again for dinner since it seems to have better reviews for that

What's Good Here? Oh Man—That Pork Chop! Modern on the Rails in Mamaroneck delivers, but what’s good here? It’s the Hatfield Reserve Pork Chop. Full stop. Thick-cut and seared to perfection. Juicy like it’s got something to prove. Smothered in a bold, rich sauce with just the right heat—hot, sweet, or mixed (go mixed!). The sausage adds depth, the peppers and onions bring the fire, and the mushrooms and potatoes round it all out like a Sunday meal at Nonna’s, only sharper and bolder! It’s not just dinner—it’s an experience. Money well spent, and then some. Come hungry. Leave talking about it for days. What’s good here? The Hatfield Reserve Pork Chop, no question. -WGH

Went for dinner on a Friday night. A 6pm reservation for 7 people. The food was FANTASTIC however, the wait for the food was not. The appetizer came out fine. We then waiting almost an hour for the main course. It seemed tables that came in after us were being served first. When we asked where the food was we were told the kitchen was behind because there was a party of 60 as well as a full dining room. Because it was my birthday we decided to order dessert. It was probably about a half hour later no dessert and we would they ran out of cheesecake which 2 of us had ordered. We then just said forget the rest of the desserts and we would take the check. I guess it was a manager that came over and offered us the other desserts for free but unsure of how long we would wait as it was now 2 and half hours of being there we said no thank you. It was very loud, so much so we had to almost yell across the table just to have a conversation. My grandma is well into her 80s and she was very uncomfortable with how long everything took and how loud it was. Our server was nice but seemed very slow in comparison to how busy it was. There was no hustle. This was my second time here. This won’t prevent me and my husband from coming back but we probably will not be back with a large group and we will go with the notion we may have to...
