My wife Kim and I have been listening to Ms Dement since 1992 and have seen her in concert eight times. She is a magnificent singer and has been an important part of our musical life. Her songs resonate deeply with us. For me the most powerful was listening to “Childhood Memories”. I was extremely moved listening to this masterpiece. It resonated with me and my childhood in a small Italian town in the Apennines. Her songs evoke so many different emotions!
The concert at the Emelin was memorable. Iris was in top form; she sang with power and emotion. Whether on the guitar or the piano, Ms Dement was in control. Her piano work had a wonderful gospel feel. There were so many highlights, including the encore of “Our Town” with Anna Egge and the excellent upright base player (whose name escapes me). The base was a wonderful addition to the concert.
It was a memorable concert and for us it was one of her strongest. The Emelin was also an important component because it is a wonderful and intimate theatre. Thank you Iris for your wonderful music and being such a part...
Read moreI submit a "qualified" thank you for bringing this film to the film club. Technically, the film skillfully shows the person who is Norman Mailer. The film reveals his background, his multiple marriages, his very large number of children. We are impressed with his intellect, and his literary success. However, I was also troubled by the flaws in his character that the film does not shrink from revealing. I came away thinking that Mailer was a very troubled narcissist, and many of the disturbing parts of the film remain with me. One hopes that the price of genius doesn't necessarily come with some of the negative character traits shown in this film.
Kudos to Jeffrey Zimbalist. His interview after the film was informative...
Read moreAnother terrific show at the Emelin Theatre! So glad we found this outstanding, intimate venue. Matt Schofield put on a great show, what an incredible musician. He was joined by a few guests who only embellished an already great performance. Sound quality is spot-on. Matt is a super nice guy who is always willing to talk and interact with fans after the show and tonight was no exception. Municipal parking right nearby that is free after 8 pm. On a side note, many wonderful restaurants in the area for pre-show dining. Quite a few only a short walk to the theatre. We always drive up from Long Island but the Mamaroneck Train station is right nearby as well. Find a show that suits your fancy and check out this...
