Okay. I was here many years ago and it was terrible! I went again today, at the urging of my friend...and I was pleasantly surprised. It was very good! The blackened shrimp over crispy grits was soooo good. Spicy. The dish could have used a bit of fruit salsa (like pineapple/mango) on the side for a cool down. I had shrimp in a rosé sauce for my entree. I really liked it. My friend had the steak and fried shrimp. She really liked it too. It was all a lot of food for me. I took a lot home. We had the warm flourless chocolate cake with vanilla gelato for dessert. I forgot to take a picture of it. Yummy too! I didn't like the smell when I walked in the front door. I know, I know... it's a fish market too, but I still don't like that extra fishy smell. I could not smell it after we got in the restaurant though. Prices are $$ - $$$. Depends on what you get and what you think expensive is. I would go here again.

Actually 2 entities under one roof. The seafood market is definitely 5 star. The re$taurant is cozy and $erve$ great food in more than ample quantitie$. However; that said, be sure to dress appropriately for near sub-arctic temperatures. Seems that the restaurant portion of Gadaleto's has no control over the HVAC system, and the building owner thinks that 34 degrees Fahrenheit is the ideal temperature for both businesses. Every couple and party that came in while we were dining on the excellent fish and chip$, had to retreat to their autos for extra clothing and survival gear. This could present an outstanding oportunity for a young entrepreneur to rent out parkas and long underwear from a van, or similar mobile conveyance, in Gadaleto's parking lot. Another viable alternative would be to eat outside in the parking lot if the outdoor temperature is above 34 degrees.

I have bought seafood at Gadaleto’s before and it’s always been excellent but today was my first time dining in. My friends comment says it all: “I live on an island and I can’t get seafood this good there.” There is counter service and take out for now and a spacious clean dining room for eating in. You have a choice of disposable or reusable silverware. All of the food came in generous portions and was truly delicious. The bathroom was clean although it could benefit from a few minor repairs. We will definitely be back!

SURPRISINGLY UNDERWHELMING! The truth is pure and I just tell it like it is. We went to the restaurant section for dinner. First we stopped at the counter where we were greeted by a polite man who took our order, then we proceeded to pick a table. The dining room is painted dull gray, it's more like a cafeteria setting where you go up and get your own silverware, or water from the cooler, no servers. If you're looking for ambience then No-Go. We had lobster rolls, I expected more, but they were just ok. Unfortunately for some reason they keep the door to the kitchen open so it can be noisy and odd to watch kitchen work going on. The deal breaker was whenever the bus boy came out to gather dishes from the station where people leave them at the end of the meal he was slamming them together sooo LOUD I couldn't believe it! Treat others the way you want to be treated. Truthfully, no aspect of this dining experience would prompt me to want to be...

I was craving fish 'n chips, and I have a route to bypass the traffic madness in New Paltz around lunchtime, so I thought, how about Gadaleto's? I have had fish 'n chips at a lot of places in Ulster County, and invariably, the fish is a rectangular hunk of something, breaded and flash frozen at some bulk food supplier. Not so with Gadaleto's. A fresh piece of fish, in a light batter, deep fried to flaky goodness. A pleasant surprise after so many disappointments.

The fries, well, not so much. Could have come from Burger King or some such, but the star of the platter was the fish. Smallish, very clean dining room with (my guess) 15 seats at 4 tops and 2 tops. Condiments, including malt vinegar, salt and pepper, in one serving packets on a counter with napkins and plasticware. Lunch, including a 20 ounce bottle of Pepsi was under $18.

Not a fancy lunch, but satisfying to have found the best fish 'n chips I have had...
