Our family loves coming here as the food, drinks and servers are always great! But unfortunately, we had to remove a couple of stars for how poorly we were treated by the manager, Damaris. I had called the day before our visit to make sure we are allowed to bring in our own cake to celebrate my daughter's birthday. The lady who answered the phone assured me it was ok to bring it. Great! So we go the next day to celebrate my daughter's birthday and at the time we are going to cut the cake, we are confronted by the manager, Damaris, that we are unable to cut our own cake at their establishment without paying a cake cutting fee. I explained that I had called the day before and was given the ok to bring the cake and wasn't told about any fees. She explained the lady who picked up the phone may have been unaware and blamed me for not asking to speak with the manager to make sure I was getting accurate information. I explained to Damaris that I trusted the information given was accurate as it came from one of the staff members of their establishment. Furthermore, I assured Damaris we wouldn't require any assistance with the cake cutting as we had brought our own knife, paper plates and plastic utensils. I also asked Damaris that if her policy is common establishment procedure, why didn't the waiter take our cake from the table and place it in the fridge and explain the fees to us when we arrived. The cake was on the table throughout our entire visit. She then began questioning the waiter and reprimanded him in front of us!!! How awful of her to do that!! We felt sorry for the poor guy who was nothing short of amazing the entire time! She then turns to us and says Anyway! You still cannot cut your cake here. I tried to plead with her and asked if she can please honor the "misinformation" we were given by one of their staff the day prior to our visit on the phone. We had family travel all the way from the city to be here for our daughter's birthday celebration and we had already spent $600 on food and drinks. We are loyal customers and asked her to make this right and to please call her boss and see if he can make this exception. She stormed away furiously and returned and said he wasn't answering the phone and that we can not cut our cake there. (FYI the price to soley cut our cake would've been more than buying one of their birthday deserts) And just to clarify, I wouldn't have had any problem paying this fee had I been told about this policy over the phone when I called as opposed to moments before we are going to wish my daughter a happy birthday. We went out of our way to get this cake because we were assured it was ok. This is not right. Had we been told this fee prior to our visit we would have planned accordingly. At this point our cake is warm on the table and my daughter is getting antsy. Damaris was not understanding, she was quite rude to our family and displayed horrible customer service skills. She then pointed out my mother's work shirt and says she should understand. We had 3 managers at our table and they were all shocked by Damaris's behavior. Now that we are aware of the rules of the establishment, we will gladly buy the cake from there next time. It just sucks that we were treated that way though! I see a lot of reviews speaking lovely of Damaris but unfortunately, we did not get to experience that side of her.
Update** We returned to celebrate my birthday. Food, drinks and server were great as always. Damaris recognized me and refused to come up and join the staff for birthday singing but gladly did it for other birthday tables. Just goes to show the type of...
Read moreThey food was good. Just went to celebrate a milestone with my family. Everything was good until I had to pay for the food. I specifically asked the waitress if they accept Apple Pay and she said they did. I went to their front counter and she did what she needed to do and told me to get my phone closer to the machine. I made the payment and I got a notification on my phone that the payment was made and approved ( I will attach the screenshots). I don’t know what happened to their system but it lagged and I saw how the manager came and reset the machine in front of me. Then they told me that the payment I just made was no showing in their system and that I had to pay again. I kindly explained to them that I got charged already but they said if in my bank account the charge says pending and it means it was not a real charge. I explained again and showed them proof that money was taken already and because it says pending it doesn’t mean it was not charge( because I had multiple “ pending” charges on my account but my bank already takes the money out) I showed them again and they said that they didn’t get the money and that I have to make another payment so they can close their system. I told them I would not pay again since I already GOT CHARGED. They said that it would not be a double charge and explained that if the system sees a double payment, it will be refunded immediately that same day. I understood and told them if I can get a written guarantee of what they are saying will happen and they said they can’t do that and only wanted to give me the receipt if I made the second payment I was going to make. I felt insecure and told them I was not going to make another payment if I can’t get that written guarantee. They told me they can give me their personal phone number and to be honest I was not going to take the chance just with a phone number. I told them I need a written letter saying what they just said about the money coming back to my account the same day. They changed their statement saying that it might not be the same day but in the next business days. I told them why the change now and they claimed that’s what they said all along. The threatened to call the police if I don’t pay and I told them go ahead because I have proof I payed. The police came and they explained their side and I explained my side. Mind you, all of this happened right in front of the entrance door while everyone was watching us. Overall the police made a report that if they pending payment doesn’t show in the next couple of days I will come back and pay it again( SPOILER ALERT: THE “PENDING PAYMENT” WAS CHARGED THE SAME DAY, )and if the payment went through the restaurant can not contact me again( the manager asked for my personal phone number) Overall a bad experience! I dined there multiple times before. Even recomended the company I worked for to order from them before. Never coming or ordering from here again SIDE NOTE: the managers kept telling me I was difficult for not agreeing on what they wanted to do and kept switching from speaking English to Spanish when the police officer was there and the police officer only spoke and understood English ( yes the police officer confirmed...
Read moreDinner at Noches de Colombia in Newburgh was a horrible disappointment. We had really high hopes for this restaurant as we don't have many good Colombian restaurants in our area in Orange County. The service by Mayra is the only good part of the evening. She was very friendly and attentive, checked on us a couple of times through the meal. Now...the meal...I ordered the churrasquito (8 oz) steak, that comes with white rice, a couple of pieces of maduros, a couple of slices of pale tomatoes, corn, and bowl of very watery, bland beans. The meat was very low quality, the rice smelled and tasted like it wasn't washed- it smelled weird. I had asked if I could have yellow rice instead of white rice and instead of telling me okay, but I have to charge you a little extra, she said that she couldn't substitute at all and I had to buy the yellow rice altogether separately. Fine. Not her ridiculous, petty rule, so I just ordered the yellow rice separately. The yellow rice also not washed and smelled weird, and was absolutely bland with no seasoning. $38 for this dish plus $6 for the side of yellow rice is outrageous. My husband ordered the chicken empanizada (chicken cutlet) with similar sides. The chicken cutlet was more like chicken chips. They pounded the chicken so much that the cutlet was THINNER THAN THE TOSTONES, which were also pounded thin and huge, about 4" across, so imaging how much pounding went on there. When Mayra asked how everything was at the end, we showed her the chicken cutlet that my husband couldn't even eat because it was so thin, dry, and hard because of how thin it was pounded. She just said she'd let someone know. No one came out to take a look, apologize, make any sort of offering of remorse, explanation, heaven forbid discount the bill at all. So we paid our bill and decided that was the first and last time. On our way out, the hostess also asked how everything was and my husband told her about the chicken cutlet and she also just said, "oh, I'll let the kitchen know". It's nice they ask how everything is, but if you're not going to do anything about comments/complaints, DON'T ASK. We'll never go to another Noches de Colombia again. Take your hard-earned money elsewhere. If your money grows on trees and you have a craving for awful, way overpriced food and an insatiable urge to throw ypur money out the window, you should pay...
