I understand this space recently reopened under new management, so I say all of the following bearing in mind that maybe they’re still trying to find their way with what dishes and direction of the menu are their strong points versus not, but… the food I had with my boyfriend overall was incredibly inconsistent at best, and flavorless at worst.
We had the Restaurant Week menu, which seemed to have been recently expanded compared to what was on their Instagram post about Restaurant Week. Do I love more choices? Of course. But not when it comes at the expense of a well-done dish. By description, everything seemed really appetizing. By execution, we had to crack jokes with each other and laugh off the very obvious missteps to avoid facing how actually disappointed we were at what we got. The pappardelle, for example, was listed with chorizo sausage and mussels. When the dish hit our table, it was boiled noodles with a tiny sprinkle of parsley, maybe a half teaspoon of melted butter, four mussels and a singular small nugget of sausage. Or the hanger steak. The steak itself was cooked to near medium-rare perfection, but the accompanying broccoli rabe seemed to have been put in the broiler with no seasoning or cooking fat so that it was chewy and burnt, and the sauce was some sort of Asian-flavored sweet and sour sauce? Or the sea scallops with quinoa succotash. Properly cooked scallops, but the bed of quinoa “succotash” was plain and overcooked quinoa with a few sautéed veggies thrown in. On top of all of that, our server was woefully underprepared to discuss many of the dishes when we first had questions, and also didn’t seem to get any sort of significant support from the kitchen when he went to get clarification.
The shining star positive stand out of the food, though, were the oysters. Perfectly prepared, well-selected, and very fresh.
They’ve also done a great job with the ambiance of the space. Very vibe-y, dark, and perfect for a date night by looks alone.
All of that novel of a review being said, I can’t confidently recommend going here. At least not with their...
Read moreThe staff are so friendly! I should have known that there was something off though, when they weren’t busy on a Saturday night with a slew of people outside and the hostess couldn’t even come close to pronouncing “Gyro.” I mean, not even close. It’s not a Guy-ro, folks. It’s a Gearrro.
The drinks were great but $16? They were small and being a chef from NYC- even I find that seriously pushing it. These are not* $16 level drinks. The eggplant was inedible. The pita is store bought or sysco. The oysters were solid, surprisingly. The spinach pie was good, not great- good. The fried cheese was good. The gyros were… extremely disappointing. The brisket meat was flavorless and the presentation was just bad. It comes in a tight box with a bunch of french fries which in turn, get soggy with the bland couscous and some wet plain kale crammed in the corner. Theres maybe 4 pieces of meat, one was the size of a hot dog. Theres 2 pitas and a stingy cup of too thick tzatziki sauce. I was just… confused. What was even happening?
We gave it one last go and got dessert. Again, it was disappointing. It was a cut up baklava crammed inside an Irish whiskey glass of vanilla ice cream. My poor Mediterranean husband looked so depressed.
Then… the bill came. We were so ready to go at this point. It was nearly $200 with tip. For a shared GUY RO, 4 oysters, 3 small drinks, 3 appetizers and 1 shared dessert.
I was hungry 2 hrs later. Never again. If someone comes for me on social media because of this review, like another poster warned, they will be very sorry. Just like we were...
Read moreMet a friend to have some dinner, had happy hour at the bar he had one drink so I did a two for one and that came to $40. Then we sat and had dinner he had the octopus grilled and I had the double meat gyro. The food was flavorful and a good portion. But again the bill came with a 20% service charge. There is a little sign that says they're charging the 20% so that they can pay their employees a decent wage and insurance and this and that. So unfortunately I will not be returning I also have bills to pay and it's an expense for me to get their gas and tolls and parking. So I think the next time I go to a restaurant I am going to hand them a bill from my expenses after I finish eating and subtract it. I understand restaurant is a hard business but so is my business and everybody else is out there we all have expenses, that's the part of the business that's not so great. I am more than happy to leave a great tip for great service and great food but not a great tip for 0K food and decent service. And please remember all reviews are a matter of opinion and opinions are personal feelings not to be attacked or commented on feel free to try the restaurant yourself I hope you enjoy it. All of my reviews are as I see it you don't have to see things the same way I hope you...
