Mario's Pizza — Restaurant in Town of Owego

The food is great 90% of the time. Sometimes the pizza looks like it was poorly put together & the wings are overdone. Like whoever was making it just rushed to get it done. But….That’s not why I gave 4 stars. I’ve been a customer for 4 years now since I moved to the area. I honestly do love the food. The customer service needs improvement! Almost every time I call I get put on hold before I can utter a single syllable. Minutes & minutes pass. I understand it gets busy but that is not a valid reason to keep a customer on hold for 5 or more minutes. One time while I was on hold waiting I thought they were ready to take my order but it was someone else they were talking to. I said “HELLO?” because I thought someone forgot I was waiting on the line. The response I got back was a quick “PLEASE HOLD”. Honestly that really upset me! It is so rude & unprofessional. I don’t care if it’s just a pizza joint. You do not talk to someone like that! Especially a PAYING CUSTOMER! I hung the phone up and ordered from somewhere else. This is not the first time something like this has happened. All I’m saying is that if something isn’t done about the customer service ….you will lose customers. First time going to this place. First when I walked in I brought my own bottle of soda. I was specifically told by a nasty older woman that I couldn't bring my soda in. Ok no problem it would have been great if it was said nicer. She ended up being our waitress. She put two of our parties chicken wings order in as appetizers. The rest of us had to wait until the pizza came. She stated when asked what was taking so long she figured the rest of us had salads so we wanted to wait. I did not myself. A large party came in way after us and was served way before us. As for the food the garlic pizza had no garlic flavor and the crust wasn't good. The mild chicken wings tasted more like hot sauce. The garlic parmesan chicken wings were absolutely delicious. The honey bourbon were pretty good but had a slight kick. Best part was the chicken wings were all you could eat. I haven’t been to Mario’s in many years, so we figured we would stop in on our way to a local race track. Restaurant is beautiful inside, spacious. The service was a little weird we stared with a women who was training her daughter who was no where near the legal age to work, only got checked on once, and got one refill on the drinks. We decided we would get the garlic cheese bread, wings and pizza. Garlic cheese bread was mediocre at best. The wings looked and smell promising, but they had a very strange after taste and the hot sauce was not like traditional hot sauce be expecting. I am not sure if the wings are like baked first and then fried to order or what but couldn’t get past the funky after taste. The pizza was OK, I feel like it was wayyy better 5-6 years ago.
