If you like Mexican food and people who smile all the time serving you well then this is the place. My wife's birthday was the week before but she wanted to celebrate her son's birthday which was a few day away first. Also we were going to be kidless the following weekend. Kids with the father and now let the adult kids go out and have fun.
I gave my wife a choice. Italian Vincents in Westbury, Refuge in Melville or a new Mexican place of her choosing. Well my wife had the taste for tequila (no kids the next morning) and suggested Dirty Tacos which is another excellent place to eat and drink. Well my wife was in a romantic mood and said to me, "Let's go to Mangos. It was one of our first places when we started dated that we had a romantic time."
Mangos it was. We got there about 7 pm and the place was packed. I love restaurants like that. Saturday night excitement. People talking, servers bringing in all kinds of delicious smelling food, all kinds of drinks being served total restaurant excitement. I told the host 2 and no rush. She smiled and said, "Thank You." We went immediately to the bar.
I bet you know what we ordered. Yup, Tequila is it. Your right. My wife had a coconut margarita and me well a beer and a straight shot of a good Mexican Tequila. One that I don't remember the name. My wife also had a shot to celebrate her birthday. I didn't tell the host or the bartender it's my wife's birthday because she didn't want that whole singing thing they do. Well I followed her orders but Tequila makes you do crazy things. Lol.
After a good half hour at the bar we were brought to our table. We ordered an appetizer, believe or not I remembered this one. Chorisos nachos. OMG!!!! A new dish so we made a wish. Then again my wife ordered another margarita and a shot. Well I ordered this crazy Mexican drink as well as a shot. My wife ordered a chicken dish over rice and me I ordered the fajitas.
When the dinner came out I felt like I was in Cancun again. If you ever been to the island of Cancun the hotel strip and go to the central on the north part there is a restaurant there that serves food just like Mangos. The smell of the food, the drinks and the atmosphere was like being off Long Island. Maybe it was the drinks helping feel this way. Well all I have to say is that my wife was smiling all night long and when she had to go to the bathroom the Tequila kicked in.
That's when I told the waitress that it's my wife's birthday. I know I'm going to get it. Oh, well somethings just have to be done in the name of Tequila. After she came back we ordered a chocolate ice cream dish which shared and then they came out. She looked at me with those blue eyes with I love you but you'll be on forensic files next month. Irish blood. Lol. She was a champ and enjoyed them singing to her. I got the pardon look. Which shocked me.
So it may have not been as romantic as our second date but it was fool of fun, good food and well drinks that topped the night. So go, but go with the expectations of having fun. Yes, Saturday night it's going to be packed. Go to the bar have a drink. It may time time to get it so order a chaser. Yes we are definitely going back and it is one of our favorites. Now my birthday is coming up. Hm. Honey, are in the mood for Mexican? Good Luck. Enjoy and...
Read moreWanted to try a new and different Mexican restaurant considering I love it so much. I Google this place mangoes ok reviews and food looked amazingly delicious long story short my overall all experience was bad, "the soda machine was frozen" as the waiter said so my sprite tasted very odd still gave it a chance I ordered 2 kids meals and 3 adult meals 2 kids meal great out on time but my 3 other dishes were served late on top of that ,other customers being sat afterword had they're meal being served ahead of me which I did not like one bit! And to top of this horrible experience as my family and i finished our diner, I ask for my check and sign my receipt like the usual and of course no tip on the paper which I believe is totally up to myself whether I leave a tip or not, mind you I left CASH tip so the waiter comes back to my table brings his little pad with the bill inside and doesn't bother to ask was they're anything wrong with my dinning tonight he asks me why I didn't give tip !!! I was so shocked that a waiter was asking me why I didn't leave tip, then he went on explaining how that's the way he earns his living and I respectfully responded I don't pay him the restaurant does and that it was up to myself as a guest whether I like the service or not (mind you I didn't) I ask to speak to the manager because maybe he could've apologized for his employee being so rude and blunt over a tip that he was receiving but it was cash not written on the tab. Any who the manager comes over I explain the situation and I ask him to speak to his employee because there's no reason ever why a waiter after paying a bill ever come back to you and ask you why they didn't receive a tip, little did he know there was cash on the table he didn't realize maybe because he was to caught up in the fact that in the receipt said no tip I don't know. The manager doesn't help the situation at all and lectures me that in the state of new York its required tip and most people do leave tip he tried explaining that the reason the waiter came over and asked was because he wanted to know if anything was wrong mind you the waiter never asked us about our dining experience which I knew the manager was total b.s and just didn't know how to handle that situation. Himself actually took my order and I specifically said no rice, and guess what my plate had rice he asked me how's everything I respond its ok being that my order was wrong I tell him my order is wrong but I don't make it a big deal its just rice I wont eat it that's all but he still has the nerve to tell me 'no you didn't tell me no rice" i said i did he checks his system and of course my order definitely said no rice he was just carless and didn't apologize he just looked embarrassed. Overall so shocked I've been to expensive restaurants and I've been to average restaurants and never has a waiter questioned me of why I do or do not leave a tip. I WAS EXTREMLY SHOCKED I COULDNT BELIVE THAT A WAITER HAD QUSTIONED ME ABOUT A TIP AND IT BOTHERED ME SO MUCH BECAUSE I DID LEAVE TIP ON THE TABLE IN BETWEEN PLATES AND I TOLD HIM BUDDY YOU SPOKE TO SOON LITTLE DID YOU KNOW THAT I DID LEAVE TIP AND ITS CALLED CASH. Total fail as for the owner I don't think as a guest I should be treated the way I...
Read moreI loved this place until tonight . I decided to come here for my birthday and the experience made me cry. The waiter from the start also refused to split the checks and was difficult to begin with. I was excited to have him as I have come before and was extremely disappointed with how rude he was. We had to ask for napkins and plates as well. When the food came out the plates were extremely hot, which means they had to of been microwaved , I work in the food industry and the plate should not be burning hot to the point where my finger gets a blister. The waiter was extremely rude to my guests as well as the person bringing our food out, he made a rude comment about how my guest doesn’t know what’s on the menu when they were confused about what he brought out. The food was not good and the gratuity was included without us being informed. Gratuity was not an issue until the service was absolutely awful and tip was expected. When we asked for it to be taken off we were asked how much we were tipping (which is also extremely rude) . I have never in my life been treated so poorly in the restaurant industry , I as I said work in the restaurant industry and could never imagine acting like this towards a customer. I will...
