My friend and I have been waiting for this restaurant to open with bated breath and we weren't disappointed. We had dined at the Patchogue location and were excited to see if this new location was as good. Actually, it was excellent. We dined there today, and we can't wait to go back!! The ambiance is bright, welcoming, and nicely appointed. The service was warm, professional, knowledgeable and attentive throughout our meal. We started by ordering the margaritas which were refreshing, perfectly mixed and served in the kind of glasses (no stemmed glasses here) in which they should be served. We ordered the delicious guacamole appetizer, which was had just been freshly prepared and served with tortilla chips that had been made that morning. Not one bit of guacamole or chips were left. (p.s. the salsa is also delicious with the perfect amount of spice and texture). I ordered the chicken mole enchiladas. Mole is the best test of the authenticity of Mexican cuisine. After having moved to Long Island from California, where I grew up on authentic, homemade Mexican cuisine, this is the most authentic mole I have ever had at any establishment on Long Island in the 40 years I have lived here. The tender, shredded chicken was rolled in fresh corn tortillas that were blanketed in the beautiful and velvety mole. It was so rich and so full of flavor, it was so indescribably delicious I had goosebumps!!! I could taste the authentic Mexican chocolate. The spices were warm, wonderfully and perfectly complex. It was absolute perfection. My friend ordered the vegetarian enchiladas served in a beautiful, rich and delicious and flavorful chileatole sauce, with queso Chihuahua, roasted corn, spinach, rajas and cilantro which she said was totally and completely satisfying. The roasted corn was incredibly delicious and absolutely out of this world! We wanted to order a bowl of the corn on its own. Every forkful tasted like more. Both of us would order the same dishes again, and we excitedly look forward to trying the other offerings on the menu. For dessert, we ordered the "coffee" flan (you read it correctly), which was a brilliant, light and refreshing finish to our rich and delicious meal. Can I say "perfection" again? We did not want it to end. All of the dishes are simply and beautifully presented. Taking your first bite is like opening a gift. I wish we would have taken pictures. :( The bottom line: Ruta Oaxaca Woodbury is a jewel. A jewel! They have a wonderful menu with an excellent selection of dishes from which to choose and a full bar. The service, professional, but personal, knowledgeable, friendly and attentive - in other words, excellent. Ruta Oaxaca has been open for only a few weeks, but they are already getting plenty of attention and have been totally booked on the weekends, so make a reservation. (We used Open Table). They are also open during the week for lunch. In my opinion, you will not find better or more authentic Mexican food on Long Island than at the Patchogue and Woodbury locations. Plan your next dining adventure. You will not be disappointed. We can't wait...

We love this restaurant. From the warm and friendly staff, to the authentic and creative cuisine, this location hits the target ๐ฏ.
If that sounds ๐appealing, then go visit this extraordinary place ๐ . This is not a low-end restaurant, itโs moderately priced ๐ฐwith tastes ๐ and dishes ๐ฝ๏ธ that stand out from the crowd.
We just returned from Florida recently, and it was a โgo toโ destination for us that was way up โฌ๏ธ on our list ๐.
When we arrived we were greeted with smiles ๐and hugs ๐ค from Jackie and others. What made us smile ๐ was seeing how packed this restaurant was with couples, families and 2 large parties ๐ enjoying their inventive cocktails ๐น , Sangria ๐ท and food ๐ฅ delights. The staff was hopping, the bar was jumping and the vibe was flowing. Lively, yet easy to have conversations. WE Loved ๐ฅฐ it.
We started with some great cocktails ๐ธ . My wife loves the Paloma ๐ฅค ( itโs her favorite drink). My daughter ๐ง and I selected 2 other refreshing cocktails ๐น that paired well with Mexican cuisine. PS. Their chips pretzels ๐ฅจ are warmed and their salsa ๐ is homemade.
Our entrees. My daughter ๐ง had the classic chicken ๐ mole. The thick, dark, & rich ๐ค chocolate ๐ซ sauce coated the tender chicken ๐ with flavors that were amazing. Topped with onion ๐ง Mexican cheese ๐ซ with a sour cream drizzle ๐ง๏ธ, it met all expectations.
My wife had the fish ๐ special. The tender grilled fish ๐ filet was plated on a bed of sweet potato ๐ purรฉe with a side of root vegetables ๐ฅ ๐ฅ that was absolutely delicious.
I had the bbq ๐ ribs in an amazing ๐คฉ Smokey and mango ๐ฅญ sauce with a touch of heat ๐ฅ that tickled the tastebuds w meat ๐ฅฉ that fell off the bone. ๐ฆด.
Dessert. For dessert, they brought us a complimentary coffee โ๏ธ flan ๐ฎ that was out of this world. ๐
Itโs a special place you donโt want to miss. So when you want authentic Mexican cuisine thatโs notches up from the rest, go and enjoy Ruta Oaxaca! You will be...
ย ย ย Read moreIt was on a Saturday at around 11:03 am that I had discovered Ruta Oaxaca Mexican Cuisine in Woodbury because of it being advertised as a part of Long Island Restaurant Week. Upon walking into this restaurant, I noticed right away how beautiful of an atmosphere it has. In addition, upon walking into this restaurant, we were greeted right away with an incredibly warm welcome from the owner, Jose.
Jose (the owner) made us feel right at home instantly, and he also walked us through the menu and explained the different options that we could consider. Jose also really took the time to get to know us, and you could tell that Jose really takes pride in this wonderful restaurant that he owns. What really also stood out to us was that Jose "painted the picture" for us when serving us food whereby he explained the type of scenario where someone would usually order whichever option and where it originated from historically. Jose treated us like family and really went above and beyond with the level of hospitality that he had provided.
Furthermore, our waiter, Christian, treated us like family as well, and he was very friendly to us. Christian also did an excellent job helping suggest what options we could order from the menu, as we weren't very familiar with what all the options entailed. Christian also has a great sense of humor, and he had us constantly laughing throughout our entire lunch experience at Ruta Oaxaca Mexican Cuisine in Woodbury.
Both Jose (the owner) and Christian (our waiter) single-handedly further enhanced The True Saturday Lunch Dining Experience for us. We also all loved the music that they were playing, as it further enhanced the already amazing atmosphere.
I ended up getting the Chori Queso as my appetizer, the Steak Quesadilla as my meal, and the Churros Rellenos for my dessert, and let me say, they were all simply amazing.
I will absolutely be going back to Ruta Oaxaca Mexican Cuisine in Woodbury in the future, and Jose (the owner) and Christian (our waiter), are one of the main reasons that I will be going back (in addition to the food, the service, and the atmosphere all being outstanding). I definitelty look forward to going back to Ruta Oaxaca Mexican Cuisine in Woodbury...
