Worst dining experience in Plattsburgh!!! We were given dirty plates with our appetizer (all 4 plates had food residue on them), we found rotten lettuce in our salads from the salad bar, and my husband ordered a well done steak that was delivered medium rare, still bleeding on the inside. We paid $148 for food we couldn't even eat. All of the food that we did try was bland with the exception the adk burger (that was pretty tasty) Our server was nice but slow to check up on us, in fact a busboy came and asked if he could refill our drinks after we had been sitting for so long with empty cups & our server no where in sight. I absolutely would not recommend eating here. As soon as we walked out the door my 11 year old said "that was terrible, let's not eat here again", words of wisdom! Do not waste your money here! ***Update*** After posting my review Butcher Block reached out to extend an apology & offer a gift certificate. The manager was courteous & professional. She also took the time to follow up a couple weeks later to ensure I had received the gift certificates. We stopped in for lunch today, during their happy hour (3-6pm, 7 days a wk) The specials are great. Most drinks are buy1 get1 & they have some food items included on the menu. I recommend the vodka lemonade, it was so good! Once again we were given a dirty plate with our appetizer 😑 but the food was on point this time. The Denver scallops were so delicious I had to refrain from licking my plate (seriously that good) The pizza is easily big enough for 2 ppl to share for lunch & the wings are great. Overall it was a much much better experience & we will be visiting during their happy hour again!

The food here is always good and our most recent visit was no exception. The fried cheese curds and crispy Brussels sprouts were generously portioned and delicious. My companion's surf-n-turf burger topped lobster meat and mornay sauce was fantastic, as were his order of mussels. Of note: this is the only place we've encountered that does not serve their mussels with a piece or two of bread (who doesn't love to sop??) and we had to ask for some. The bread was cardboardy, cold, and seemed like a couple of old pieces off the salad bar. Not befitting of a pricier dish. Speaking of which, the mussels were MICROSCOPIC! Other than that, a very enjoyable meal on their sunny patio. The drawback was the service. Our waitress was pleasant enough, but not exactly on the ball. Only AFTER we ordered did she mention there were Happy Hour specials. We would have ordered a little differently had we known there were any.

Happy hour 12-6. Just my luck I ordered my beer at 601. Wasn't happy. Anyway,we were seated quickly and met by the server promptly. Our order was taken and the food came out quickly. They have a team approach to serving so when the initial server didn't return for a while,a second server stepped in to get my companion a second beer. We returned the next day at 2 pm to take advantage of the happy hour. Got the 2 for 1 beer but didn't read the fine print regarding happy hour food which wasn't available until 3pm. No happy hour chicken wings. I think I offended the server when I told my wife I wasn't paying regular price for the wings. I chatted the server after to give the impression I'm not a total you know what. Good food. We'll go back.

Very disappointing! The prices reflect a fine dining experience. However, the reality is a severely over priced "mom and pop" type - back country eating hole dressed up to portray and better dining establishment. My very first visit to this restaurant that we've been looking forward to visiting. We had purchased a coupon for Butcher Block from a door to door marketing person. The coupon is good to be used "except for all major holidays." Since Mother's Day is on a Sunday and no additional days off happen during the week such as Memorial Day, I didn't think this rule applied, nor did it state the specific holidays anywhere on the coupon.

  1. Upon calling to make a reservation for Mother's Day, I was told they would be too busy to reserve a table at 6pm. The next available open reservation slot was 6:15pm. Really? 15 minutes is gonna make that much difference? Upon arrival the lot was scarce, no one was waiting, and there were multiple open tables. - The good - We were seated quickly. However, now I know why it wasn't busy!
  2. The salad bar was stocked but so was the floor and serving table with all varieties of salad. I had to step over or on salad while touching sticky and greasy tongs! The good - the ingredients were fresh and the soup was decent.
  3. I asked for my children's drinks to be brought out with their meals. That request was not paid attention to. Our drinks remained empty during the meal while the waitress was busy cleaning tables when there were plenty of clean and available tables. We weren't the priority. The same happened when I asked for the check. The good - I was given plenty of time to digest what I ate.
  4. If you like a spinkle of steak tips with your plate of onions you've come to the right place. It was like thickened onion soup with some steak tips added. The good - the tips would have been tasty if it weren't over powered by the onions.
  5. If you like a FEW raviolis with your cheese soup, you've also come to the right place. The raviolis lost the fight for plate space when it battled the artichokes. Be prepared for a 40/60 ratio. The good - the raviolis were tasty, however, you had to search for them. Makes sense. After all, pasta is expensive these days!
  6. The mashed potatoes and green beans showed up cold. I did not send them back. We had waiting long enough and I wanted to focus on overlooking the issue to enjoy a family dinner. The good - maybe we can heat them up tomorrow for another meal. I'm sure they'll be good then.
  7. The floor around my table was slightly slippery. My feet would not stay still. The slow annoying slide as I sat there. The good - maybe the floor wasn't unclean. Maybe it was some lettuce or dressing stuck to my shoes from the salad bar.
  8. Upon going to the rest room to wash my hands after touching the tongs from the salad bar, I was hit with the stench of an unflushed urinal. The good - there was some cheap gas station quality hand soap in the dispenser.
  9. When we had enough and it was time to call the experience quits, my coupon was rejected. That was the last straw. The waitress retrieved the manager. However, she apparently had strick orders to not honor my coupon because it was already decided that Mother's Day would be used to not honor this coupon. I guess I didn't ask the question ahead so it's my fault. So rather then honoring this small coupon in comparison to the bill and retaining any sort of dignity as an establishment that cares for it's customers the manager stuck to her standing orders. The good - she was polite, and after hearing all the above, (that I wasn't going to mention) until I got rejected, she gave me $10.00 off my bill. Wow. Impressive. Can't wait to tell my family, friends and neighbors that if they're thinking of going to the Butcher Block, and their food and service is that of what you'd expect from a diner, if they complain, they might get $10 bucks back! Wahoo! That makes it worth it for sure! I've been to 100's of restaurants and never been so inspired to write a review. Also, Keno tickets on each table -...

Sat down... A Bug crawled on me.. My partner removed..the shoeing of the fly started... Told the waitress i would like mine well-well done, as my partner said he would like med-to well done.. She suggested med.. And had explained that in previous experiences with steak houses, its more rare than med so he would like it more like a little pink... Not red... I guess we failed in ordering because i got med-well and my partner got rare.. .At first glance my meal looked amazing, even tho my mushrooms really missed the "sauté." To sauté is to cook food quickly in a minimal amount of fat over relatively high heat! Told the waitress i would like mine well-well .... With a good amount of butter resting comfortably in the center of each. I had ate all of my buttery pat. And buttery green beans..ate a salad..drank my raspberry tea..still shoeing the fly... And the waitress returns... I had to... Only because the waitress didn't wait to check if the steak was to our liking.. When she finally came back to us.. And asked how was everything... Remind you drinks were empty...food was mostly ate.. Except the steak.... I said my steak isn't fully cooked.. She took my plate and turned to my partner " and yours? 99% sure attitude was definitely there.. So i waited another 15 minutes.. And she returned my plate with pat.. Green beans on it....and could you guess....the same steak i had already took 2 bites off.. And still didn't ask if it was ok... No asking if we would like a refill..nothing...i was done with the whole situation..we had to wait aprox. another 10-15 minutes before she came back and asked if we wanted to go boxes.. Still left a $5 tip and a note that said look for my google review... So here's a tip... I am grateful that you are still working during this sensitive time... But as i just worked my 17 hr shift i was looking to relax and enjoy a good meal... So remember we all aren't just out having a good time...i was still in my work cloths...not dressed all fine... And just like you i was on my feet the whole time... REMEMBER I too didn't want to cook tonight after all that time. All this for 2 dinners and $5...

2 out of 3 visits our orders was not right. It's way over priced for steaks that came out not cooked right. Consistency of the food coming out of the kitchen is never the same. For a steak house they can not properly cook a T-bone. Just not acceptable. No offer to get a manager, just we can throw it back on the grill. Plus in small print below the steaks it states that butter herb mix is served on your steak. If you don't see that print you get that mix on your steak. The print is down from the steaks and easily missed. On our first visit we didn't see it and was not even told that was how they serve it. So when the steak arrived it was melted and all over the place. True it was any easy scrape and daub fix, but it was just a turn off. Salad bar is on a slant so the salad spoons/tongs usually end up with the upper bowls serving utensils handles falling into the bowl below it. Yes right on that bowls food. The bread is served fresh baked and uncut. So the patron in line in front of me full on grabbed the loaf of bread bare handed to cut it. That is a turn off to me. Gross in so many ways. The decorartions are excellent, and interesting. However, spacing of tables is too close. So getting out when you are done dining or trying to make a trip to the salad bar is like trying to get thru a maze. There usually is an abundance of staff and the are trying to do their job. With the close proximity of the tables. It makes it hard to move. When servers are doing their job, and with other diners moving about it becomes very tight and crowded quickly. It gets blocked off by people and hard to move about. There tables set up in right down the middle in front of doorways and no clear path or space to it. So you either have to go around or squeeze between chairs while trying not to bumb into other diners. There is the long way around, but again it's full. So, no matter which path you take, it is a squeeze. Denny's even has a better seating plan than this nightmarishly tight sardine packed plan they have. Taking a table out here and there would help. I would prefer to wait a bit longer than have to be crammed in an over...
