A Bagel spot that I never feel welcomed at. So I go to this bagel place all the time conveniently because it’s open 24/7. I always go before work. I usually arrive around 3 AM and I stay there until about 4 430 before I go about my day. My typical meal consists of two toasted egg bagels, with butter and a large tea. It’s about an $8 meal. However, sometimes I just get a tea right before I leave if I’m not that hungry yet. Every time I go in there I have my nice big jacket that I put over my head so I can chill out and listen to a positive podcast before I go to work. Today was no different. I haven’t bought anything yet, but I had the full intention of buying a tea before leaving like I always do. This man who was behind the counter nudges me because he thought I was sleeping I explain to him I wasn’t sleeping I’m just listening to a podcast and I was a little cold, so I have my jacket on because when I showed up there at 3 AM the door was wide open so it was cold in the store. He said if you don’t buy anything I’m going to make a phone call. I wasn’t sure how to take that. I took it as a threat. I’ve never seen him there before but he clearly didn’t know me because if he did, he knew I bought some thing every day there. He embarrassed me by yelling at me in the store with customers in there. So I got up I waited to get online and then I asked him. What did he mean by that statement and as I was trying to explain the situation. Another coworker. I think his name is Pedro. I think he just bought a red Corvette. Says hey listen just call the cops next time. Well, I don’t know why you would call the cops on a customer who comes into the store every single day and buys some thing. I only stay about an hour which is actually the legal timeframe I’m allowed to stay based on the sign in the store. And even though I was yelled at and embarrassed, I still bought a tea. No one in the store who worked there who knew who I was even stuck up for me. Which made me realize they probably don’t even want me there to begin with. This is not the first situation I’ve had with this store. One time I show up this was just a few weeks ago same time, but it was during the week. And the same situation happened I was told I have to buy some thing or leave. This isn’t a shelter. Implying that I was homeless! and I’m not. This lady who said this to me she usually works at night. And ring me up the day before. She has short hair. She’s usually a lot nicer to me, but she said she actually was having a bad day and apologized afterwards. I too bought some thing that day, and I said OK no harm no foul. But after today I just don’t know how I can keep going to the store. It’s like why can’t they respect the amount of money that I spend. I’m not saying I spend $30 a day. But I spend close to $10 a day 7 days a week. I feel like I’m being singled out maybe it’s because of the color of my skin maybe it’s because I have a physical disability and I look different than everybody. I don’t know, but I make enough money to buy some thing in the store every single day and I do. I know they’re a small business and I can’t call a corporation or anything. But I can speak my mind and I will. It’s a shame that they’re only place that’s open 24 seven. I wish there was another place I could go to. I love local businesses an supporting local businesses. I’m really big on that type of stuff. I much rather buy a tea or a coffee from here than a Starbucks. Smithtown is my home and I try to support my community. But to be treated like this it just hurts. I just feel like my money isn’t respected the same way...
Read moreCalled in a order lady on the phone said 20 minutes I said ok no problem. (Keep in mind verry big order) 2 heroes egg sandwiches and a couple beagles.
I arrive 15 minutes later and the line was out the door. I had said to a worker Is it the same line for pickup and order. The nice lady said no if you called in you can follow me. I did and I was meat with a lady with a lot of Botox, dirty blonde hair, and she said what can I do for you? I said I had called in an order. I said my name and she’s like are kidding me look at this line. I told you 20 minutes. It has not been 20 minutes. What makes you think you can walk in here and your food will be ready. She’s like I haven’t even started it yet. I said I’m sorry I just just what time I got here. I have no problem waiting. She’s like it’s ridiculous and just such an attitude. I can’t even begin to explain it. i’ve been coming here for a very long time, especially when I get out of work late. I treat all my employees too a bagel or an egg sandwich at or around 3 AM every weekend I come down here the first time during the day and that’s how I’m treated needless to say I would not be returning and I’m going back to my original roots Bagel Smith by Citibank. I’ve known the owners for years and they own another shop in Kingspark. please train your staff better.
I understand working in a Bagel and or Deli it could be stressful. I did that for years a very, very busy Deli and it gets very overwhelming. When you have a customer is asking for orders you have the phone ringing off the hook, but you do not take that anger out on your customers you need to learn how to channel...
Read moreSo to start, on Friday, 4/12 I go in to the store to order 2 dozen bagels to be shipped to Iowa (I was in town for a HS reunion and just had to get some bagels shipped so I could enjoy them after my trip). After some employee confusion, I finally getting them ordered and paid the $36/ dozen. I flew out Monday and returned home. When no bagels arrived by Thurs night I called the shop and was asked to call the next day and talk to the manager. So Friday morning I called and spoke with a gal (she never gave me her name). I explained I was concerned as I hadn't received my bagels yet. She said she was the manager and that she was off Mon and Tues and was the only one who could ship them and that the bagels were sent out Wed morning so I should receive them Fri or Sat. Ok cool. Bagels are delivered Sat 4/20 and I immediately unpacked the boxes. We enjoyed one that night and a couple Sunday morning. Sunday night I was prepping some for work the next day and I noticed mold on one...hubby thinks it's just flour so I wipe it off. Just in case, we move each bagel to a new clean bag. Here it is 2 days later and I'm having to throw away 9 of the bagels because they are covered in mold and I'm gonna carefully watch the rest. I'm sorry, there is NO WAY these bagels should have molded just 3 days later! I am very pissed off at the waste...
