Came to Capt jacks with the group I was in town with, 9 of us in total. I called before to assure that the restaurant was able to accommodate a large group. Once we arrived about 10mins later ( we walked down the street from the air bnb we were staying at) when asked by the hostess how many were in our party, she seemed more upset about having to seat us. Once seated, our Server Candy was great. It seemed like we came during their dinner rush so we waited a bit for drinks which is to be expected. Once we ordered our appetizers took about an hour to come out, after waiting about 20mins for drinks. Some alcoholic and other fountain drinks. After waiting a total of almost an hour and 45mins for our entrees we decided to head home and cut our losses. As we sat and waited for our meals 3 other tables were sat, they all ordered food and promptly left before realizing how long it had been. After telling Candy we no longer wanted our entrees, but would gladly pay for our drinks and appetizers another server came to the table and asked if we wanted to have the meals boxed up to go. We had asked if the second server was the manager and she said no. Never did a manager touch our table or explain why it took almost two hours for our food to arrive. We were a very diverse group of people and are ALL servers, bartenders, and cooks. Therefore making us a group of understanding and patient people. This restaurant was recommended by many people so we were all super excited but the experience was terrible.
Candy was an amazing server and we even tipped her half of our bill to show our appreciation. She made sure to check on us after we got our drinks and appetizers. We are just disappointed in the wait for our food and the fact a manager never came to talk to us or explain why it...
Read morePoor treatment of Veterans and service dogs. On July 4th, 2024 (Independence Day), my Service Dog, wife and I made the drive from Canandaigua to Sodus Point to specifically go to Captain Jack's for lunch, as I get to pick out place to dine on military holidays. Upon entering the restaurant I was told by the hostess and another employee that they don't allow pets of any kind. We notified them that my dog ids not a pet but my service dog (which by the way, he was wearing his service vest that states "Clearpath For Veterans Service Dog"). after they both take a second look at my service dog, they state that it doesn't matter. We continued to remind them that it's a law to allow service dogs in all facilities that allow the public to enter, to which they replied "yes we know but it doesn't matter", and we could speak with the owner if we want. At this point my wife and I were so fluster that my dog felt the frustration and anger and led me out of the restaurant. After goin g to eat at the next door restaurant Six50 On The Bay we called Captain Jack's from the near by park to talk to the owner. However, they told us the owner w as no longer there and w then we asked for the manager they told us the manager was busy but that their policy is to not allow any animals inside because the Health Department told them they have an open kitchen. Anyone with common sense knows that the Health Department would have told them of accommodation needed to allow service animals since it's the law, such as allowing us to walk around the side entrance to go to the outdoor deck as other restaurants with the same open kitchen circumstance have done in the past. They have not only lost a revisiting customer but a community of veterans with disabilities and a community with...
Read moreWent on the 3rd of July. We go every 3rd! Hostess asked if we had reservations. We said, no, we thought you don't take them. She laughed and said well that was last year, you should have made reservations. We then had to ask how long of a wait with no reservation and we asked for an outside table, there were 5 of us. She said, I have no where to seat you out there, you can try to look upstairs. We opted to look upstairs but had to ask her how to get up there. She said, oh just outside and you'll see the stairs. We looked and it was a covered porch, defeated the purpose of being outside. While we were out there we saw about 4 dirty tables that could have been cleared off. So we went back in to a younger hostess and I told her we would prefer to wait a little for the outside seating. She said she had to seat the line of people first. The other hostess came back and I told her we didn't want the upstairs, so how long is the wait for outside? She did not answer us. She ended up going back outside to clean a table off for us. Service was slow but it was busy so we didn't think too much of it. The server didn't come to our table to ask how everything was, just after we'd been sitting there finished eating, she then asked if we needed boxes. We have been here many times in the past. We understand it's busy. I worked in the restaurant business so I can relate. The way the hostess acted was not professional, not even friendly. The food wasn't up to par either. It was like it was waiting to be picked up and got cold. I've heard this hostess is the new owner? If so, that attitude will not keep the patrons coming back. Its sad because we like going there to sit on the water. We are debating on giving it...
