I rarely leave reviews. In fact, this might be my first Google review. But my group of six had such a terrible experience here three weeks ago that I feel I owe you all a favor and should post. We arrived at the restaurant on a Saturday around one PM for brunch. The place is cute. It took quite some time to get drinks but eventually we did. When the waiter, who was nice, came to take our food order, I ordered a smoked salmon plate that was supposed to come on a bagel with a boiled egg, capers, truffle oil, etc. My friends ordered other dishes like their flatbread, a crab sandwich, and a a chicken adobo soup.
The crab sandwich came first (all of the food came out at different times). Though apparently it tasted okay, it was frozen on the inside. The outside was warm but the inside super cold. Two of my friends got carbonara and a cuban, both of which were apparently A-OK. But then, the madness began. The flatbreads, smoked salmon plate, and soup came out. I'll begin with the flatbreads. One (the plain cheese) tasted like it just came out of a microwave...like some chewy kids pizza pretty devoid of flavor with low quality bread. The other (feta and truffle oil) almost certainly contained spoiled ingredients. A few people tried it and everyone confirmed -- that was NOT what truffle oil was supposed to taste like. I honestly think the dish might have curdled, it had that sour taste. We had a slice and left the rest. Then, the chicken adobo soup. It looked like chicken noodle -- it completely lacked the chiles, avocado, and any spices that it was supposed to have. It was also room temperature at best. When they refired it and brought it back out, the only difference was they had added a few slices of avocado on the top. And as for my dish -- I got what looked like a dinner portion of salmon -- not what one would traditionally think of when they hear 'smoked salmon on a bagel,' but an herb-crusted dinner-like piece of salmon. It wasn't what I was expecting, but I woudl have eaten it had that been the only issue. However, NOTHING on the plate was what was on the menu -- instead of a bagel, a boiled egg, capers, and truffle oil, around the salmon were little piles of the following: cucumber, parmesan cheese, and tomatoes. No bagel. No egg. No capers. No truffle oil. I told our waiter that the wrong thing was sent out (because it quite literally did not match the description .. also, who puts those ingredients on the same plate???). The waiter took it back, and after about five minutes, someone came out from the kitchen. Maybe the chef, maybe the manager, maybe both. He came up to the table with his hands on his hips. "Who ordered the smoked salmon?" he barked. We were all taken aback. I sheepishly raised my hand and he started in on me, telling me smoked salmon was ALWAYS hot (not true... lol) and that this was the dish on the menu, but they just didn't have the bagel (which they didn't warn me about). I started to reply that none of the other things on the plate were correct, and he interrupted me, telling me how I was wrong, how I didn't understand the menu, how this is how they did it, etc., until one of my friends had to bark "excuse me!" to get him to listen. She began to explain how it was all wrong and he told her to settle down. He was rude, aggressive, plainly unprofessional, and if he was the chef, he should take more pride in his menu, that is for sure. They didn't have any of the ingredients for the dish I actually ordered, so I instead ordered an avocado toast which was basically soggy sourdough with guacamole on top with way too much lime. They did comp some of our food, and again, our actual waiter was shy but nice overall.
However, I would STAY AWAY from this place. The management isn't nice, the food sucks, and odds are, you won't get what you order anyway, and its expensive. Seriously. Avoid avoid avoid. That the place was quiet on a summer Saturday in the Southampton should have been evidence enough.
Ps - NONE of the food I saw while there looked ANYTHING like the pictures in other...
Read moreI would give this place zero stars if I could. They actively made you feel like doing the bare minimum or a bad effort at their job was a favor to you. I came here for my bachelorette dinner and upon arrival they told us they should not have taken a reservation of our size (11) and that we needed to wait for them to figure out where to put us. After waiting for 45 minutes at the bar we were then stuffed at a table on the outdoor side of the restaurant clearly unintended for restaurant seating. There were no pretty string lights or heaters, and when we asked if a heater could be brought closer to us (we were ladies all in dresses) they told us no, and to shut us up the manager mentioned “don’t worry, 50% of your bill will be comped” and walked away. The servers for our table were obviously tag teaming us as a side table, and although they were very nice, they forgot some of our drinks and billed us for extra food we did not order. Towards the end of our meal a random manager without the full story of what we just went through told us that the area they sat us was going to turn into a club and we needed to move to another area of the restaurant for dessert. I was not happy to be told that at all, and our server came over to apologize but still asked us to move. We watched as they began to let 18 year old children into the “club” area and the staff appeared to be drunk. At the end when we were given the check we were indeed comped for the three pizzas and 2 dessert plates they randomly sent to our table, and automatically charged 20% gratuity which we doubled (40% tip). The server complained to her manger that our tip was not enough, and did not understand we doubled it from the auto charge… so the manager came over and cursed at us and kicked us out. I think he was drunk too. Overall, I’m surprised people actually go here for a restaurant experience, but it became clear they must make all their money on their night time illegal “club” of...
Read moreBest restaurant in the Hamptons (and I have been to them all;), bar none. Excellent food handled with such attentiveness, not thrown at you like other places when "busy" or in "high season." Our mussels and lobster were simply sublime! So fresh and delicious, you could tell the chef took pride in his work. Respecting the quality ingredients and highlighting them with true consideration that brought them to culinary perfection. Bright aromatics surrounded the mussels that burst with flavor. Garnished with crispy-baked bread the whole table raved about. The lobster, not over-cooked but prepared just til tender, then lightly tossed with a cream sauce that did not over-power, yet rather made the lobster taste even more delicately decadent. However, the real star of the show here besides the obvious food and chef, is the service. I can not sing the praises enough of our server, Mia and quite possibly the most joyously-kind and jubilant bartender I have ever come across, David. Both were so welcoming and warm, making our experience one we will never forget. Drinks made perfectly and each dish and request handled without so much as a blink of an eye. Spritzes that make you dream of Italy and muddled berries that remind you it is finally spring. Plates brought out piping hot with the most refreshing of libations to wash it all down with. If you are lucky enough to get either of these two your time at Blu Mar will no doubt be unforgettable. Honestly both Mia and David are one in a billion and made our time here a beautiful memory, not just a meal. If you want the freshest of food with unparalleled people who really care then look no further then Blu Mar. Highly recommend...
