Tried to give this place a 2nd chance now I'm changing my review to a 1 star. Wish we had to option to do a thumbs down. Both times I've been to this place its been a disappointment but this time was the absolute worst. I walked in to place a Togo order and I specifically asked how the dish was prepared and if the Snapper was cooked in a sauce. I was told "yes and its well seasoned"
Received the check and there was an 18% automatic gratuity added to the bill. (This I'm still trying to figure out why????) But I simply paid and tried to go on about my life as I waited for my food.
When I received the food, I checked it before leaving. They gave me a dry unseasoned fish. Still can't determine if it was actually snapper because it looked so bad. There was no sauce no veggies, just a dry fish. I also ordered a side of Tostones. Those looked like they tried to find all the leftover pieces they had in the fryer. When I asked about the sauce and expressed that this was nothing like I ordered. The waiter went to the back and brought me out a small container of sauce and said "okay, here you go". Even after explaining to him that it doesn't help the fact that this was not the dish I ordered he went on about his day. I approached the bartender whom I placed the order with and showed her the dish and she just said "oh, I'm sorry" and walked away. No one cared. I decided to make a conscious decision to never return. I threw the food in the trash. Money wasted but I'm sure the owners don't care because it's only about their bottom line. Even if this place is giving away free food, I...
Read moreI came up from the city to visit my sisters to come to Capicu as it’s the “hot” spot in town. This review is my honest opinion of my experience here, so whoever responds to these reviews on behalf of Capicu understand that you won’t filter my experience through your eyes.
The food was ok. It wasn’t horrible but it wasn’t particularly good either. The music was dated. Songs in Spanish and English and other genres was a little old. Popping sure, cause they’re classics but that’s the thing they are a little classic and dated. Our waitress V was amazing and worked hard to make sure we had a good time!
I read the former comments to ensure my comment was authentic and I wasn’t complaining about something facetious. I wanted to also comment please don’t gatekeep for the Latino community as we are a varied and diverse people who love, appreciate, and connect to music like soca, reggae, Afrobeats.
A suggestion: instead of becoming defensive about comments that highlight where changes/improvements can be made, consider and receive everyone’s comment and opinion with Grace. Especially if they spent money in your establishment.
Overall it was a 2 and humility will get you further...
Read moreLet me start by saying this: I have lived in both Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, and with both sides of my family being Puerto Rican, I know my Puerto Rican food. As a Nuyorican, I can confidently say that Capicu is one of the best Puerto Rican restaurants I have ever eaten from, period.
The flavors here are authentic and powerful, taking me right back to the island. Every dish I tried was seasoned to perfection and tasted like it was made with real care.
A huge highlight was the staff. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better and everyone was bilingual. The vibe inside is great, too—it has a cool, unique decor with a Puerto Rican Domino club feel that gives it a lot of character.
The parking and seating are perfectly fine, with no major issues. My only real downfall, and the reason I can't give a perfect 5 stars for convenience, is the hours. I really wish they were open for breakfast and weren't closed on Mondays! I have cravings that don't always align with their schedule.
But if you're in Middletown and looking for truly fantastic Caribbean American food, Capicu is absolutely the place to go....
