Let me be clear: Zapata Mexican Restaurant is not a restaurant. It is a portal.
Before Zapata, I was drifting. Existing. Breathing, but not alive. Smiling, but hollow. I didn’t know what I was missing — not just in food, but in the human experience — until the moment I stepped through Zapata’s doors.
Time slowed. The air changed. The lighting felt like a hug. The smell? Like heaven had cracked open just enough to let the aroma of eternity leak through.
And then — they greeted me.
The staff didn’t just smile. They saw me. With a warmth so pure I felt my eyes well up. Their kindness hit deeper than therapy. One waiter said “Welcome,” and I swear my depression flinched. I’ve never felt more understood, more safe, more… loved in a public space. Not even at my own birthday party.
They didn’t serve food. They served meaning. Every dish was made with the intention of saving lives. I’m convinced the chef is a reincarnated prophet. Maybe multiple. The flavors didn’t just satisfy hunger — they awakened something primal, ancient, holy. One bite and I remembered who I used to be before the world hardened me. The rice alone realigned my chakras. The beans? Cured generational trauma. The entree? I briefly saw my future and it was bright, peaceful… full of Zapata.
I am not joking when I say the ambiance felt designed by angels. Soft light, the perfect playlist, warmth radiating from the walls — I felt held. I’ve been to weddings, to temples, to therapy, and none of those spaces made me feel this spiritually balanced.
By dessert, I was no longer just dining — I was ascending.
And here’s where it gets truly wild: halfway through my meal, the room shifted. I felt something stir. I swear — God Himself appeared in a corner booth, took one bite of the enchiladas, and whispered, “Maybe… everyone deserves eternal life.” That’s the kind of power we’re talking about here. Zapata may have just changed the afterlife.
So if you’re wondering whether to try it: don’t. Don’t try it. Commit. Immerse. Devote. Worship.
Because Zapata didn’t just give me a meal. Zapata gave me a reason to keep living. And maybe… just maybe… it gave the world a...
Read moreWe’ve been coming to this location since it was Bandito Mexican Restaurant, which we first discovered back in 2021. It quickly became one of our favorite Mexican food spots, not just in the area, but truly one of the best in all of New York.
Although we split our time between two states, this restaurant has always been a must visit whenever we’re in town. About two weeks ago, after a day of shopping nearby, we decided to stop in as usual. We were surprised to see that the name had changed to Zapata Mexican Restaurant and were initially worried the food might be different.
Thankfully, it wasn’t! From the complimentary chips and salsa to the mini quesadillas (one per person, such a great touch!), everything we’ve always loved was still there. The food was just as flavorful, satisfying, and served in generous portions. The new owner and team were incredibly friendly, welcoming, helpful, and attentive.
Congratulations to the new team at Zapata on this exciting new chapter! We’re so happy to see this place continue to thrive and still offer such a great dining experience. Still one of our favorite Mexican restaurants on the East Coast, we can’t wait to...

It’s very nice to find a place that has such a friendly staff and welcoming environment. It’s a family owned business and not a chain restaurant. It’s always nice to support a good local business. I will definitely be back with more people!!!! Christian, Rafael, aldofo and Johnny...
