Since Spark Valley has been open long enough now to get the kinks out, we decided to give them a try for our anniversary dinner. It was a Saturday night so we made reservations and reserved a table near the window (good thing we did because it was almost packed). We ended up going 45 mins earlier than our reservation which was not a problem-they had our table ready and we were seated right away.
First came the bread and my first issue for not giving it 5 stars. For the prices they charge the bread should be warm or at least the butter should be soft. They give you two types of bread that were both good, but definitely would have been better warmed up.
For dinner I ordered the surf and turf which included a petite filet and a lobster tail. Both were cooked and seasoned perfectly. My husband ordered the chicken martini which was also very good. This leads to my second and third issue for not giving 5 stars. I can get charging the high prices for the beef because it is supposed to be high quality, and mine was delicious so I’m sure it was. But if you’re going to charge such high amounts for a dish like chicken, you need to either have bigger portions or for it to be organic to justify the price. So if it’s going to be organic, or have a sauce, or be USDA Prime, they should note that on the menu, but nothing on the menu has descriptions. If I hadn’t looked it up on their website, I would not have known why they were charging so much.
We also ordered a side dish each, creamed spinach and Spark Valley Potatoes, and both of these were very good and big enough for sharing. I thought there should have been at least a couple more choices for side dishes though that weren’t so basic. The two we ordered seemed the least plain of the choices. A couple seasonal “fancier” side dishes would have been nice. For dessert we had the chocolate truffle cake (a flourless chocolate cake) which was very rich and decadent-loved it. We also ordered drinks with dinner and had a fig infused grappa after dessert (very good) and they were all very reasonably priced. As far as service, we didn’t really have any issue. Our waiter came over several times to see if we needed anything, and we did not wait long for our food to come out. It did seem like we waited a bit for the check, but we were trying to catch a movie so it might have just felt longer because of that.
All in all we had a very nice dinner and although it won’t be somewhere I will eat once a week because of the prices, it’s definitely somewhere I would choose for...
Read moreOne of the worst services I've received from a restaurant in a long time. Arrived just after 6pm for a party of three for dinner and we all left after 9pm disappointed. This was our first time going to this restaurant so first impressions are very important to me.
We placed our apps and dinner orders about 15-20 minutes after receiving our beverages. While we were waiting for our order and chatting amongst ourselves, the restaurant startled to fill in with other patrons. We noticed others that were seated after us receive their appetizers. Our waiter kept passing by our table without even acknowledging us. I literally had to grab our waiters arm while he walked past for the 10th time for his attention. He went to see what was the delay and apparently he said our ticket got lost. Granted our water was apologetic for the error, so we gave him a pass for that.
After half an hour later, at around 730pm, we finally received our appetizers. Taste and appearance were average at best. We ordered fried calamari and their thick sliced bacon. The main course finally came out about another half an hour later. This was going to be the determining factor, after the long wait, to see if we would come back to this restaurant or not. After the first bite of my prime ribeye steak, I will DEFINITELY NOT be returning. I ordered my steak medium and it came well done. Usually, at a good steakhouse, two minutes after receiving your steak, the waiter comes around and asks "how your steak came out?" Due to the lack of service and attention, our waiter never came to check up on us. After 20 minutes from receiving my steak, I only took 3 bites of my steak, and the waiter asked me if I wanted it boxed up. I told him no thanks as my steak was overcooked and loaded with butter. He didn't give any care for my disappointment or did a manager try to comp my dish. Without hesitation, we just asked for the check and ran out of the restaurant as quickly as possible. For a $50+ "prime ribeye steak" you would expect near perfection for a steak. They definitely fell way short of average at best.
During our long wait for our dinners, we also noticed other patrons trying to get their waiters attention and they were also ignored. Definitely the staff needs more training with customer service and attentiveness to their tables. Even though the interior of the restaurant gave it an upscale look about it but the food and service don't reflect the price...
Read moreThe 5 star review certainly comes with a very large asterisk. And let me preface this review by stating that I currently work and have been working in the food service industry for over 2 decades.
The place was spotless and you can tell they follow and take Covid protocols very seriously. The lighting was perfect and my wife commented on how great the music and ambience was. The service was prompt, polite and professional.
Once our steaks were dropped off, everything changed. The food runner made sure we had enough room for our steaks and sides and then vanished. We didn’t see our server, or any employee for that matter for over 30 minutes. Mind you, it was late and most of they other tables inside the restaurant were gone when the steaks arrived, so it wasn’t like they were busy or in the weeds. We never received steak knives for our delicious cuts of meat. Luckily they were tender enough to cut with our butter knives. The server never checked to see if everything ordered came out correctly or if the steaks were cooked properly. Would of loved to enjoy a couple glasses of Cabernet with our steaks, but again, we were left completely abandoned. The only sign of life was a distant conversation that a few employees were having. The expletives from the 2 workers were certainly more abundant than the service we received.
Being in the industry, I have a lot of patience. Especially with Covid. However, I was about to get up and find someone. Anyone. Then, a sign of life. A server finally came over. I guess break time was over or they finished doing their side work and emerged from behind a curtain.
Dessert felt rushed. Like they were slightly annoyed that we were keeping them longer. There was no attitude or rudeness or anything like that, just felt as if the ambiance and feel of the place changed drastically. It was my wife’s birthday. I stipulated in my reservation that it was and the hostess was aware of it. No singing occurred. No “Happy Birthday” written with chocolate sauce on a plate. Not even a single candle.
Just a very bizarre experience. Maybe because it was late. Who knows. The food was excellent, the drinks were great. Dessert was phenomenal. Service was amazing up to a certain moment. I’ll certainly return, but perhaps earlier in...
