I saw the name of the bakery out of the corner of my eye as I drove down Falls Road. I almost crashed my car trying to pullover because I LOVE pastries and I hadn't had a really good one since I moved to Maryland.
When I walked in I immediately felt like I stepped into pastry heaven. Each item I saw looked delish. I was greeted by a nice woman, Gale, who I later found out was one of the owners. She was wonderful to talk to and provided me with a nice history on the bakery. My fiance went back the next day and Gale remembered me by name, which I thought was very sweet.
I meant to "try" just a couple of items, but the foodie in me showed up that day and I ended up buying about 10 different sweet and savory pastries. Not one item disappointed! I mean every single one was DELICIOUS! Everyone I shared the goodies with were hooked. My young daughter, fiancé, and clients were all impressed.
I wish I could say I had a favorite, but everything was AMAZING. The fruit tart had a surprise chocolate glaze on the shell which made me wish I bought more. The macaroons tasted ridiculously fresh, light, and airy. And the baguette oh the baguette....I can still taste it and it's been two weeks since I had it. Then there were the croissants; chocolate, almond, plain, and spinach with cheese - lord my mouth is watering as I type. Each one was just as delicious as the next. I bought other items, but I'm kind of ashamed to gone down the list because I really and truly over indulged that day.
My other half is totally hooked on this place. He has been back for the hot dogs, which are really extraordinarily delicious.
These folks can do no wrong when it comes to food in my book.
Anyway, the moral of this story is that this place is AWESOME. They can't possibly dissapoint...

However, be prepared for limited seating as the location is small. We opted to carry out. I highly recommend the turkey and cheese croissant for a savory option. However, all of their croissants were amazing, plain butter, almond, chocolate, and chocolate almond. They had a sweet cheese puff that was delightful. Perfect blend of crisp, airy, pastry, and the cheese filling was tasty and a perfect level of sweetness. I also really enjoyed the walnut bun (maybe it was pecan). Nice chewy pastry with crunchy nuts. The only photo I took was of the blackberry mini cake (forgot the listed name). As that actually made it home. My only issue was figuring out parking. There is some street parking, but they were understandably busy. There are a few parking lots nearby, but signage about restrictions made it confusing and risky about possibly being towed. I'll be better prepared on my next visit now...
Read moreAs you can see in the picture, the "W.C." (that's "water closet", aka the bathroom, you uncouth américain) was out of order. Setting aside that you're serving drinks and food and offering (dirty) tables to customers without a functioning bathroom, it turns out, as I write this, we're in the middle of a pandemic. Before you eat, you should wash your hands. You just can't do that here at Bonjour. (Hand sanitizer was on offer.)
Yeah, a dirty table... covered in a few crumbs when I sat down. So, couldn't wash my hands, and just had to hope whoever was there before me was not one of the 5½% of Marylanders with COVID because clearly no one had taken the 30 seconds to wipe down the table. Come on, amie!
The caprese sandwich was good, the bread had a good crust & just the right amount of chew. Garlicky pesto. But if you're serving sandwiches or food in general... salt & pepper would be nice to have.
Unfortunately, the chocolate "mousse" was more like a round lump of chocolate frosting on a passable genoise-ish round playing a single note that sounded a lot...
