I decided to surprise my wife for her birthday today and wanted to take here somewhere really nice for dinner. Neither of us had been here before, but we had heard great things. I made online reservations which was incredibly easy and user friendly .
We got to the restaurant a little early and it was pouring , I dropped my wife off , but I was a little wet from the rain. The staff gave me some clothe napkins to help dry me off, which was fantastic!
We get to the table and there are rose pedals and confetti and a hand written happy birthday note from the capital grille! What a great touch! They also sat us in a booth that was perfect as the noise level was low so we could enjoy each others company.the environment was incredible, it was clean , refined and very relaxing.
Our waiters name was Jason, hands down thee best server on the planet. He was personable, funny, friendly, amazing attentive, he always seemed to perfectly time his attentiveness . Truly the entire staff , even down to the wait staff who keep our water filled and took our dishes were incredibly friendly and always prompt.
We started dinner with drinks , which were hand shaken at our table by Jason and they were both great , I got the stoli doli and my wife got the capital cosmopolitan. Would recommend both
Next we ordered our appetizer, we chose the lobster and crab cake with lemon aioli. We just got back from the Florida keys recently and not even their crab cakes were this good, the crab cake had a perfect consistency and the lemon with basil aioli was a perfect pairing. 10/10 would order again
For dinner my wife ordered the Sliced Filet Mignon with Cipollini Onions, Wild Mushrooms and Fig Essence, medium rare, I ordered the Porcini-Rubbed Bone-In Ribeye with 15-Year Aged Balsamic , also medium rare. Our dinners and steaks were cooked to perfection. The 15 year aged balsamic had this perfect sweetness to pair with my incredible tender steak with an amazing char! My wife’s fillet was also perfectly cooked and incredibly delicious. The mushrooms just burst in your mouth.
We ordered 2 sides The Au Gratin Potatoes and Soy-Glazed Brussels Sprouts with Bacon both were very tasty, the soy glazed brussel sprouts with bacon was fantastic! The bacon pieces had this smoky flavor that was to die for!
As we were thinking of ordering desert our waiter Jason surprised my wife with a desert with a candle but kept it discreet, which we loved to be honest. The desert was a flourless chocolate cake and a brûléed cheese cake both with fresh berries! Both were amazing, the chocolate cake had this incredible texture and chocolate flavor and paired with the fruit it was just perfect. The cheese cake was the smoothest silkiest cheesecake we have ever had ! The sauce that came with it and the berries , we were speechless
I just wanted to say thank you to the capital grille waiters , hostess and our server Jason for making my wife’s birthday a night to remember. If I could give you more...
Read moreHadn’t been to Capitol Grille in several years, so we were looking forward to it. The service was fantastic, Conrad did an outstanding job. By the way, we were celebrating a birthday! Now for the food ….. Calamari and the crab cake appetizers were awesome. Two of us ordered Caesar Salads—-a total bust! Once the salads were placed in front of us I knew I wasn’t going to like it. The lettuce, which looked wet was small pieces placed on the plate as though the lettuce was on ration. I only had one crouton in my salad; the cheese was not grated, but sliced thin and placed on top. Salad appeared as though it was wet and had no dressing; it was glistening! Thus I asked for extra salad dressing. Salad was lackluster to say the least. One other person in our party felt the same way, and her salad looked the same. The birthday girl enjoyed her wedge salad. I ordered the lamb chops, which were cut into 8 lollipops. They were tender and the taste was good, but they were salty!! Also the sticky rice with the tuna entree was also salty. One person ordered salmon and didn’t care for it, but couldn’t really say what it was that she didn’t like! The salmon on the plate was not asthetically at all. It was a slice of salmon, no sauce or anything on top of a small bed of green beans. The strip steak, the tuna entree and the filet mignon(?) were well received. Drinks were so-so…the French 75 was so-so, the margarita was sour, flat tasting, and the mango royal was different. I was shocked at the quality of the food as in previous times, whether I was in Troy, Atlanta, or Florida, the food at the Capitol Grille was on point! Not sure if I’ll make a return visit as the food was...
Read morePopped into the bar area for a drink and a quick bite after some holiday shopping. Drinks took more than 20 minutes to be delivered after they were ordered (at least 15 after we sat down) Very soon after we sat an individual at the bar was speaking loudly, swearing, and was just generally boorish. When we eventually ordered I got the tomahawk veal chop medium rare. It was at least another 30 minutes before we got our food and when I cut into my steak it was medium well. The waiter saw that and immediately took it back to be remade. Shortly after, he indicated that the manager was handling it and they would get me a replacement steak right away. So as my wife and son began to eat I waited approximately another 10 minutes for a new steak. The waiter, not the manager, brought the steak and when I cut into it, it was closer to medium rare but still not the best cooked steak I’ve had. I decided to keep the steak since I had been there over an hour. Meanwhile, the man at the bar had been served at least 4 glasses of wine while we were there (no idea what he had before we got there)and by the time we left he had also had an espresso martini (supposedly for an alert ride home) and would not shut up. It eventually became a topic of conversation and annoyance for others at tables near us.
While I was in the bar area, I dropped over $300 on dinner, had to wait an inordinate amount of time for an overcooked steak, got a headache from someone being over served, and wasn’t paid the courtesy of a manager visit, or even the offer of discount or a free dessert for the trouble.
Bar area or not, not what I would have ever expected from Capital Grille, can’t say I’ll be...
