$50 pricing is all over the place, esp appetizer section, very much so not worth the price
portion sizes for numerous items incredibly small for asking price. very hit+miss based on what you order. on top of that, being asked tipping for counter service when Bill is already $50 is a LOT.
service is INCREDIBLY SLOW every time I've been here, whether dine in or take-out. be prepared to be here for over an hour if you plan on getting more than just drinks.
One time tried to come here & they willy nilly randomly decided to close shop with ZERO advance notice until I see note on the door, turns out owner's daughter has a birthday and very last minute, owner decides to close. I was meeting up with another friend there, had to last minute figure out another backup plan, communicate to each other, all while already on the road, such a hazardous + stressful situation that could've been avoided had the owner been more thoughtful.
their soufflé pancakes were a let down, nothing jiggly about it, just borrowing the brand reputation. their sushi smelt like burnt torch fuel. their indonesian popup was also just okay. their japanese potato salad -- ice cream scoops are bigger than the dollop they charge you $3.50 for. overpriced, molassesly slow service, inferior quality for the price charged. another place checked off that i don't need...
Read moreCame here and we ordered: Chicken katsu with egg over rice Matcha latte Umai souffle pancake
The chicken katsu barely had any egg on top, it was barely visible on the chicken. The chicken was soggy, the rice was soggy and I definitely think anyone can make this better at home!
They warned us the Umai souffle pancake would take 30 minutes. For 3 small pancakes, I think 30 minutes is too long, especially for the type of service they offer (food brought out on trays, you take care of the trays, plates and trash yourself). The ice cream that came with the Umai souffle pancake was freezer burnt, I think you can get better matcha ice cream from your local grocery store.
Overall, I will not be returning. $45 for mediocre food that I think most people can make themselves!
Do not order the chicken katsu and only order the souffle pancakes if you have time to wait awhile! I did see other people get sushi, which...
Read moreUmai cafe is the perfect spot for lunch after a winter hike. The cafe is clean & cozy and the staff were very kind. The food was good and the chocolate avocado smoothie was decadent. The miso soup and potato salad taste fresh. The cafe has a projector to play video clips and gentle music to create a pleasant atmosphere. The cafe is tucked into the corner of a strip mall, and is situated next to a fitness studio that unfortunately has no soundproofing so for a portion of our visit the loud noise had a negative impact on the experience. I look forward to visiting again and love that there is a local spot for avocado smoothies and...
