Worst place I have ever visited. We took 2 Iftar buffet box that they offer and it cost $12 per box. The box is small and there was a Bangali guy who came with the box and was standing. He told us to select the items and then he will take out the portions. OMG. THESE GUYS DONT KNOW THE MEANING OF BUFFET!! When we told to give us Biryani he just gave us one scoop of Biryani per box. WHO EATS ONE SCOOP OF BIRYANI??? A BABY AT THEIR HOUSE? People like this should be kicked out of business.
Update to respond to manager:
The reason I used nationality is because the worker knew we were fasting, and that this will be my meal to break my fast. In this case, the biryani was the main course of meal. So how can it be so less? My wife asked for second scoop since we decided to box both of our biryanis together and when he gave another scoop it was like half. So for both of us, we had less than half a carryout for biryani. You really expected us to ask after seeing this behavior?
To be honest, the main reason for my frustration is that this was called "buffet" carryout without buffet options. Maybe a customer prefers biryani over haleem and wants more of that, or vice versa? Another reason for frustration is that the worker said the amount is the policy, such as saying we can't give more than 6 pieces tandoori for two people, which again defeats purpose of buffet.
The reason I didn't discuss with you during checkout is because I was baffled by the policies that your worker said. Plus I have to get back home to break my fast. It was not worth the argument during the last...
Read moreWe visited Charminar Biriyani House in Troy with high expectations, given its reputation, and tried a variety of dishes: Goat Dum Biriyani, Lamb Biriyani, Mixed Grill, Samosa Chaat, and Butter Naan. While the food was generally good, there were a few inconsistencies that impacted our experience.
First, we ordered both biriyanis with a spicy level, but the spice levels varied dramatically. One biriyani was incredibly spicy, almost uncomfortably so, while the other was much milder and didn’t meet our expectations for a "spicy" dish. It was disappointing that the spice levels weren’t consistent despite ordering the same level of heat for both dishes.
In terms of flavor, the biriyanis themselves were okay. The Goat Dum Biriyani had tender meat but could have used more seasoning, and the Lamb Biriyani was similarly fine but didn’t stand out in any way. Both dishes were decent, but we’ve had better biriyanis elsewhere.
The Mixed Grill was tasty, with a good variety of meats, but it wasn’t anything particularly memorable. The Samosa Chaat was a fun dish, with the right balance of tanginess and crunch, and the Butter Naan was soft and fresh, though it was a bit on the thinner side compared to what we’re used to.
Overall, the meal was satisfactory but didn’t live up to the hype. While we enjoyed some elements, like the Samosa Chaat and Butter Naan, the inconsistency in spice levels and the lack of standout flavors in the biriyanis made it an average experience. It’s a solid option if you're in the area, but it's not a place we would rush...
Read moreMy first visit to Troy for an Indian lunch buffet was far from satisfactory. We narrowed it down to two restaurants and my husband picked this.
The first thing that caught my attention was the lack of cleanliness. When we were seated, we were offered water in a jug that was unclean and had some green leaves in it. This was a significant turn-off. The bowls weren’t clean either, still had food residue on them. I had to inspect each plate and bowl after that.
The buffet menu was surprisingly limited, offering a scant selection of dishes that didn’t reflect the variety one would expect from a restaurant in this price range. I was shocked to see the limited menu but hoped the quality would be good. However, we were really disappointed. Additionally, there were very few options for kids.
Here’s a breakdown of the dishes we tried:
Chicken starters : Decent Tandoori chicken : Good, but loaded with food coloring Veg Pakora : Okay Chicken Biryani : Lacked flavor Desserts (Rice Kheer and Kesari) : Lacked sweetness and taste Masala Chai : Okay
The food overall lacked both taste and flavor, making the whole experience quite disappointing. Given the high prices, I expected a lot more in terms of quality and flavor.
Overall, it was an unhappy experience. They really need to focus on cleanliness. The ambience was okay, but it’s not worth $17.50 for this buffet. I would not recommend this restaurant. If you're considering dining here, try your...
