Update : While my original review (below) still holds , I am reevaluating this restaurant based on new information. My wife is a member of a group that occasionally gathers together for a meal at a local restaurant and today they are going to Walk On Sports here in Trussville. Today, 6/13/25, in preparation, she was looking over the menu online and found that since we last ate at this restaurant, they’ve apparently increased their prices, at least somewhat. Hamburgers are now about $20 and sandwiches are in the $18 range. Her favorite, the shrimp poor boy, doesn’t even have a price on the menu, and you know what that means.
However, Stangely enough when my wife returned from lunch with her group She said that their menu prices really hadn’t changed and that her shrimp poor boy was about $13, about what she paid for it last time. She also said that prices for hamburgers and other items on the menu were about where they were nine months ago, and much lower than the menu prices on the Internet. Why their prices on their Internet menu are a lot higher than what they actually are in the restaurant is a complete mystery. HOWEVER, THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WALK ON SPORTS MANAGER BEFORE HE LOSES CUSTOMERS FOR NO REASON AT ALL. I maintain my previous ratings
Original evaluation, October 2024: My wife and I ate at this sports bar tonight. My wife had eaten there once before for lunch with her Sunday school group, but for me it was my first time. I have never seen so many TVs in one place, most of which were turned to an NFL preseason football game or Major League Baseball. I countered about 30 TV from where I sat and they were others that I couldn’t see.
I ordered their Classic Hamburger with smoked Gouda cheese and all the trimmings, except pickles with a side of crawfish étouffée. My wife ordered the Shrimp Poorboy. My wife really liked the shrimp poorboy; She said it compared favorably with our favorite from the Shrimp Basket restaurants. I had a bite and I agreed. I am a purebred Cajun from Lafayette, Louisiana, so I know good at étouffée when I have it. Walk-Ons étouffée was very nice. The hamburger was big, almost too big to get my mouth around. Unlike many restaurants, the patty was tasty and not overcooked. It came with pickles anyway, but they were easy to remove.
My hamburger came with waffle fries while my wife ordered sweet potato fries with her shrimp poorboy. Frankly I think I would have preferred regular fries instead, but the waffle fries were okay. I was was surprised how good my wife’s sweet potato frys tasted.
The service was prompt and timely. As soon as we sat down the waitress was at our table taking a drink orders. As soon as we finished our meal the server was there with our check. It probably wasn’t her fault that my hamburger came with pickles, which was not a big deal anyway.
The place is a classic sports bar; the food and atmosphere are true to that type of...
Read moreAbsolutely awesome!! Not your typical Sports restaurant. Bistreaux fits much that Bar and Grill would for sure!
We had a GREAT waiter, Justin! He was friendly, professional and had excellent suggestions.
The menu offers truly a lil bit of everything! The Cajun dishes are right on point! And, if you aren't crazy about that cuisine - there's typical burgers and wings. But you'll seriously miss out!
We had 4 people in our group. We each ordered something different - and EVERYTHING was delicious!
One had Mardi Gras Salmon. Justin had suggested trying both sauces - and that was awesome!
Another had Cajundillas! Who'd have thought a typically Mexican dish could be a really delicious with a Cajun twist?! The beans were also delicious!
Another got the Catfish Orleans. Absolutely wonderful. 2 catfish filets (he ordered fried) with shrimp and crawfish and rice in éntouffée. Savory but not too sweet.
I got the Cali Roll. So very good!!! Justin suggested the onion rings. Listen to him!! They are amazing!! And let him make you some of his special dipping sauce! Ooh so yummy!!
Landon, the GM, came by to check and us. As we were 1st timers - he se n t us some of the beignet bites. Omg! I'm used to NOLO beignets and never thought of bites. They are divine!
BTW- the portions are large. No reason for anyone to leave not full or with leftovers!
For the sports fans - there are tvs everywhere! Im from Houston (Texas) and have to say - these folks rival the best sports bars there and beat most of them!
We've already planned to be back - with a group of 15! My husband and I will be back as well. We live in a small town and the hour drive will be...
Read moreFrom walking in the door to walking out of the door, it was a sub-par experience. The hostess seemed disturbed that we interrupted her “phone time” and seemed put out when my friend and I asked if we could sit at the bar. Once seated at the bar, the bartender was less than overjoyed at our arrival. No greeting whatsoever, basically a “what do you want” attitude. I decided not to order any food, just a sweet tea without ice, add lemon. Simple. The tea did not seem sweet, was packed with ice and had not a lemon to be found. ( not even an accidental seed!) My friend ordered a sandwich and a grossly overpriced IPA. ( U could have bought a 6 pack from the store for less) She asked my friend 3 times if his sandwich was to-go ( making me feel like she wanted us not be there.) I ordered a sandwich, to-go, to take home to my wife and my bill was $18.68 total. I paid with a $20 bill, so my change should have been…$1.32…right? She gave me change of $1. $.32 isn’t going to break the bank, it’s the principle. If she shorted me…who else has she shorted?? How much?? I left the $1 as her tip, which was more than the $0 originally intended. This was my first visit…probably my ONLY. If I wanted poor service, bad attitude and to feel like all the problems in her life were my fault…I could have gone to McDonald’s! The only positive I can say is my wife thoroughly enjoyed the sandwich I...
