Competition #2: Burger King’s Whopper Jr. with Cheese vs Jack In The Box’s Jr. Jumbo Jack® Cheeseburger
This, our second burger battle, pits the King’s Whopper Jr. with Cheese against Jack’s Jr. Jumbo Jack Cheeseburger. The two stores supplying today’s sandwiches are East Speedway neighbors, separated by Pantano Road. As we established in the previous battle, the burger scale is one to ten, ten being imaginary perfection, our own home-grilled burgers ranked at eight, fast food burgers limited to a scale of one to seven.
Burger King’s Whopper Jr. with Cheese === A good experience, the burger hot and fresh. The Whopper Jr.’s beef is accompanied by a slice of cheese, tomato, lettuce, mayonnaise, ketchup, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun. I usually complain about crappy white chunks of iceberg (instead of a full green leaf) falling out of the sandwich, soiling my clothes and making me curse the King, but that was not the case today… the mostly white lettuce behaved itself.
The Whopper Jr. shares one major plus with our previous competition’s winner: it is charbroiled (or flame-grilled as the King puts it). Charbroiling is the only way to go with a burger. Charbroiling is where the rich flavor of the beef comes out.
At $4.99, the Whopper Jr. with Cheese was the more expensive of the two sandwiches.
Service: Just fine. Polite & efficient. Atmosphere: Drive thru, so not scored.
Score: 6 out of 10. Reasoning: Flavor. The Charbroiling makes all the difference.
Jack In The Box’s Jr. Jumbo Jack® Cheeseburger === As the second burger to go down the gullet, I immediately noticed the absence of the charbroiled flavor. The beef takes a step back to join the chorus of other ingredients: cheese, tomato, pickle, lettuce, onions, ketchup, mayo and plain bun (no sesame seeds). The Jr. Jumbo Jack® Cheeseburger is essentially the same as the Whopper Jr., with an actual full leaf of lettuce, but minus the sesame seeds and the charbroiling. The Jack wasn’t bad — it was just missing the charbroiled magic. If this sandwich were in competition with a Big Mac, it would have easily won on quality of ingredients and significantly lower price ($3.68).
Service: Just fine. Polite & efficient. Atmosphere: Drive thru, so not scored.
Score: 4 out of 10. Reasoning: Fresh, tasty ingredients, but alas, the beef ain’t charbroiled.
Results === WINNER: Burger King’s Whopper Jr. with Cheese (6/10) ALSO RAN: Jack In The Box’s Jr. Jumbo Jack®...
Read moreOn 28 June 2017 at 5:16pm at the Burger King, 7880 E. Speedway, I went to the drive through to place my order. The female that took my order was extremely curt and unprofessional. When I went to the window to pickup the order, the same female that took my order was at the window. A male moved her aside and tried to give me someone else's order. After telling him it was not my order he turned grabbed a bag and handed it to me. The order was wrong and I returned it to the female. She was obviously unhappy that I returned the order and she told me to go park to wait for the correct order. The same female brought the order to me and roughly handed me the order. As I inspected the order I told her I had a question and she rudely replied with "What". I then told her, "Never mind, go back inside; you have been very rude." BK should not hire these low quality employees and I will not go...
Read moreStopped after work waited 15min in line. It was 11:40. No one said anything went to window and was still ignored I honked a lady kept looking at me saying they was closed and at this point it was 1155 then she came to window. Asked for store manager and store number she said they dont have one. I asked her if they close at 12am and she claimed they had tho close early. Will be calling there home office and calling around cause you don't leave a customer in linefor 20 min. And not say anything. Just got off work and its upsetting when other people take advantage of there work like that. They deserve 0 stars and this isn't the first time iv had issues with this store. Trust me I understand fast food and spent my time as a closer and there are always other people willing...
