My GF loves Salad & Go, rants about it all the time. And I know I should eat more salad for my health. So why not give it a try and go for… a breakfast burrito!
For my first visit, I decided to compare a Salad & Go breakfast burrito to one from its catty-cornered neighbor, El Potosino, a Mexican fast food joint. At Salad & Go, I ordered a TEC Burrito: “Turkey Sausage, Egg & Cheese" with “Traditional Salsa” (a mild red salsa) for a total of $3.63.
At El Potosino, I ordered a “Sausage Burrito” for a total of $7.60. I also received one of those common small red plastic cups of hot red salsa.
The two burritos were similarly packaged, both about the same size, copious. Taste wise, the Salad & Go burrito was decidedly more succulent and spicy, tastier than its competitor, whereas the El Potosino burrito was blander, somewhat dry yet the sausage seemed greasier, made of chopped up links.
Not only was the Salad & Go burrito more satisfying than the El Potosino burrito, it was less than half the price!
So guess where I went for my second breakfast burrito a week later? On this second visit, I ordered their Southwest: Egg, turkey sausage, pepper jack cheese, roasted poblano peppers. Delicious and only $3.63. This is my new “Go To” for a breakfast burrito — delicious far more economical than Basha’s, Nico’s or the neighboring El Potosino.
Maybe one of these days I’ll go there for a salad. Like, before my next visit to the doctor so I can tell him honestly I’ve been eating healthy. The salads look very fresh and you can opt to have them in a wrap.
On a side note, I recently noticed a new fast food business in construction right by another beloved salad joint, the newly reopened Sweet Tomatoes at Wilmot/Broadway. The new business will be called “Angie’s Lobster”. Googling the name reveals the new business is another Arizona-based chain founded by siblings Tony & Roushan Christofellis who also co-founded… Salad & Go, yes! Their whole business model is about getting rid of inefficiencies, totally streamlining every aspect to keep quality high while keeping costs low. As any engineer knows, the fewer moving parts, the less stuff to break down, the less cost to operate and maintain. Great model! I’m looking forward to checking out Angie’s Lobster when it opens… and yes, really looking forward to my next breakfast burrito...
Read moreEarlier this evening I door dashed two build-your-own salads. While all the ingredients were correct, they were mismatched on our salads. We decided to drive to Salad-and-go to have them correct our order. When I pulled up to the intercom I told the woman that we door dashed our salads and that they were incorrect. She said, “Ok….” with a complete attitude, didn't apologize or offer to make us new ones the way we had ordered. So I said, “Ok, so can you make us new ones?” She agreed and took our order. After pulling up to the window, she was taking the persons order behind us and while doing so, she was waving her hand like “hurry up!!”, and rolling her eyes. She did this with the next person after that. Obviously they couldn’t see her, but I could. COMPLETELY unprofessional. I didn’t get her name, however she had pink hair, eyebrows, tattoos, and piercings. I will never return to this specific location. Almost makes me not want to ever get Salad-and-Go ever again because are these the type of people they hire at every location? Ones that give horrible...
Read moreGoing to be brutally honest here, I like other salad and go locations but I’ve had two bad experiences here…I received attitude from the manager the first week they opened after one of their giftcards was incorrectly loaded by one of their employees, my wrap had all the blue cheese stuffed into one section and not throughout the wrap, and after giving it another chance today, I get home and was given the wrong dressing after asking specifically for ranch and have the saddest salad I’ve ever seen from a salad and go. Very disappointing. My experiences at the other locations have been much better. I won’t be going back to spend money on food I...
