Janet & Ray's — Restaurant in Tucson

I can't believe I haven't been here sooner. I discovered Janet and Ray's by searching food near me 😂. I was tired of the same old same old that I get every week and wanted to try something different. Janet and Ray's was perfect because I've actually been hungry for catfish but haven't had the time to fish lately. All the food was delicious! I got the fried catfish dinner with potato salad and festivals. I did get tartar sauce to go with the fried catfish but it had enough flavor on its own that it really didn't need it. I wasn't expecting the potato salad to be spicy and I've never had spicy potato salad before but I definitely will be getting it again. I had originally wanted collard greens to go with my fried catfish but they only have it on certain days so I will definitely come back to try other options and the collard greens. I know today was the day that they have oxtail or curry goat both are things that I have never tried but I will definitely try it on another day. Janet & Ray’s Caribbean Restaurant is worth the trip! The food is delicious and the owners and staff are the nicest people. I have had the jerk chicken, fried chicken, and fried catfish. The jerk chicken is so flavorful and spicy! Even though it was spicy hot, and I don’t usually eat spicy hot food, I couldn’t stop eating it. It is cooked on a grill in the parking lot and the smells will make your taste buds water! The fried chicken is the best I have ever eaten in a restaurant! It reminds me of the chicken I used to eat that my aunt’s fixed in Kentucky. Every day is a theme day. Wednesday is “wing” day, Thursday is “thigh” day. Friday is “fish day. Saturday is “Caribbean” day and Sunday is “ soul food” day. The menu is written on a huge chalkboard because it changes every day. Each entree comes with two sides. Desserts are also offered here and the banana pudding and salted caramel cheesecake are delicious. I like this restaurant so much that I have eaten there three times in one week! I'm giving 2 stars because the food is amazing... when you can get it. My friend and I ordered food online yesterday via their website, during their confirmed open hours (the hours on the door confirmed it should have been open as well), we received texts confirming our order, then texts confirming it was ready to pick up. We drove there only to realize it was closed. As soon as we pulled up, I remarked "Is it even open??". The place was completely dark, but there was no sign on the door saying they were closed unexpectedly, just their hours. We both ordered almost $40 worth of food, so we waited a bit to see if someone would come and they never did. This is the second time it happened to my friend. I understand emergencies happen, but they could have at least put a sign or something on the door and disabled ordering on their website. They have great food but I can't risk it again.
