Kahu Hawaiian BBQ — Restaurant in Tucson

If you know my reviews you'll know I never give 5stars unless it's absolutely perfect which is hard to attain. People don't pay attention to their surroundings nor do they give detailed reviews to justify their rating which means they don't really care to take the time & actually give effort to make this world a better place. The world will not change one iota without extreme considerations of courage! ○

We don't eat like rabbits, but we do eat moderately healthy (we have pizza 1x/week, desserts sometimes, etc -- so, we're not "health nuts"), but this food made us sick afterwards - 2x! We thought it was just the one time so we gave it a second try!

We visited March 18 & 28, 2025. Avoid this establishment like the plague if you want to continue bending down to smell flowers instead of looking up at them

It was narrow at counter / drink area & having a line of people behind, while people who have already ordered need to step out of line. The same goes for people waiting for their TO GO order, people who've already ordered need to get out of line while others are picking up their takeout order, etc. It's not comfortable being in line, waiting in line, trying to exit the line, grab order, get drinks, etc. It's quite chaotic because most people don't care where they stand to interfere with others' personal space. In order to alleviate this, they should set up a line form

It is a tasty cuisine, but it is THE MOST DISGUSTING FOOD EVER!

Further clarification: it tastes good, but it is the greasiest food ever!

If they want to "k!ll" off the population faster, this is one method of how they'll accomplish it & you'd be willingly handing them your money while they do it

They are well aware of the sad state of obesity in people (Americans, to be exact), yet they serve this tasty but gross food

Our party of 2 chose to get the HAWAIIAN BARBECUE (BBQ) MIX. We shared it & there was PLENTY for 2 to eat

The portions are extremely fair for the price of 1 order. We made 3 meals out of it. The 3rd meal was a bit much, could've split it again to make 4 meals out of it, but....

....You get what you pay for. Just because you can get a precooked tasty meal for cheap doesn't mean you won't end up at the Doctor, or an early grave! It's not worth the sickness, the inflammation , stomach pain or the funds you paid to make yourself feel better after eating here!!! (Even if you just have to take some Pepto, you're still eating horrible food & your body will continue to pay for it!)

The ribs were a tad chewy & thin - generally not tasty. Chicken was good, some burnt spots. We found the beef appealing.

¡The rice was Muy Delicioso! Or, in Hawaiian, The rice was 'Ono Loa!

The macaroni salad was supreme.

If you're not a fanatic of the macaroni salad, take a tiny bite of it along with some other tiny portion, even just the rice, at the same time. Mac salad really elevates the tasting experience!

Service : basic. The gal was quiet & hard to hear. We're not losing our hearing so I know it's because she was meak. We had to ask one question several times due to not hearing her correctly / loud kitchen. One would think after asking several times & holding hand up to ear with a questioning facial expression would make her think she should make the effort to speak louder, but she didn't catch on for some dumb reason

Atmosphere / Environment : unassuming. The space is lacking real Hawaiian motivation, but since it's a simple & Small establishment, it's not that big of a deal. The music is wonderful & lovely!

Great Hawaiian BBQ!!! We go to Costco off the 10 Fwy and South Kino Pkwy. When we are done, we make a stop into Kaho Hawaiian BBQ. Been there 4 times and this place has been very consistent. Staff is friendly, service is fast and the food tastes great! We always get the BBQ and Katsu Mix. This plate has fried chicken with a light and very crispy panko breadcrumb on the outside, BBQ chicken and BBQ beef. It’s served over a bed of steamed cabbage with a side of white rice and some of the best tasting macaroni salad have ever had. The fried panko chicken is perfectly cooked. Crispy but not oily at all. The meat is tender. The same goes for the BBQ chicken. Great BBQ taste and the chicken is always tender. They use thighs for this one which in my opinions it’s the best choice. The BBQ beef is also very good. Nothing is salty or greasy. It’s just right. The plain white rice goes very well with the order. It’s cooked just right. The side I wish we got more of is the macaroni salad. Some may think it’s too sweet for a mac salad but I think it’s the best Mac salad ever!!! I want more!!! Best I can say is try it and you be the judge. All in all this is a great combination of food. And for the price I believe it to be a fair deal. Great taste and value portion wise for the money. The place is very comfortable, restrooms are clean. It’s a pleasure to go there. I have not tried the other dishes which have fish/shrimp. For now I am stuck on the BBQ and Katsu Mix because it’s so good. But one day I will try the plates that have fish and shrimp. I’m sure they won’t disappoint. The food is very fresh and very good. The flavors are amazing and not too overly teriyaki. Love that they offer the option to take home more sauce of your choice with a sauce pump near the drink station. The restaurant is always clean when we stop by including the tables, floors and bathroom. The only “downside” and it’s not even a downside more or so an annoyance. I had placed my order for pick up, stopped at Walmart before picking up the food and was maybe 30 minutes out from placed order time. The staff LITERALLY called to express that my order had been ready for “49 minutes”. First of all, I have a mama and don’t need to be scolded, second of all if we’re pressed for time, get payment over the phone that way if an order sits atleast there’s peace of mind for you it’s already paid for, and lastly, can you just like not 😂 im out here trying to pay bills and buy some groceries and pay my childcare and put a full tank of gas in my car. I would like to splurge a little before pay day and enjoy the delicious food from Kahu without being scolded. Thaaaank yoooooou. Ima still eat here...
