In all honesty, this is not Indian food or Indo-Chinese food. This might appeal to non-Asian populations but anyone who is from India or South Asia for that matter should steer clear of this place. I ordered Fried Rice and asked them to make it super spicy. And yes they did comply but that was not Indian spicy or even Andhra spicy(the spiciest food in India is from this region). They just decided to dump the chilly powder in this dish and call it a day. I see the high ratings on Google and I am not disputing it. Maybe this is not a place for a true Desi. So this review is for all Indian folks who decide to check this place out. The food might not appeal to you. There was some other dish that my friend ordered. It was called some kinda Noodle but it appeared to be Semolina upma with a lot of beetroot juice for coloring. This might be fusion food but again, not for Indians. To the people who run this place, I know I'm being really harsh but it is only to warn the Indians searching for a true Indo-Chinese food joint. I think so far in the US, I've seen a few places in Queens NY and, a few others in the SF area where you get authentic Indo-Chinese cuisine. For my American friends, you can go ahead and dine here. The ambiance is nice, the staff is polite....maybe you might like the food even.
And yes, please don't call it "Modern Indian" cuisine. There are plenty of modern Indian food experiences across the globe. And India is a country that exists in the modern world so our food is not some kind of ancient creation. We have adapted our food to the changes of modern times. What we eat at home (or at a real Indian restaurant) is what Indian food is. My hunch says that nobody associated with this restaurant is from the Indian subcontinent.
PS: So you guys find that someone is saying something sensible then you hide those reviews? Wow! Wonderful job "non Desi" Wok! Edit: I've owned and managed a business earlier so I know the owner of the business can choose to hide reviews. You just made it visible now. Also, as I mentioned, this review is for Indians. Not for the local folks so why are you frustrated? Just don't lecture Indians on what "modern Indianx cuisine is! And oh yeah no Italian would go to Olive Garden and...
Read moreI normally don’t write reviews but the experience I had with this restaurant deserves one. The manager is absolutely unprofessional. After calling the store every other day for a week and a half to get a refund for my cancelled online order, my husband finally went into the restaurant to request for the refund in person. After my husband left, the manager had the audacity to call my phone and use profanity towards me then hang up in my face. She then text my phone and continued to be rude. However, each time I called the store earlier in the week, she was never present and the cashiers could do nothing but take my name and number down for the manager to process the refund, which at this point, I still never received a call back from the manager about my refund. Just wondering why the manager didn’t use the same urgency to refund my money as she did when calling my phone to be inappropriate. I’ve never had this experience with any other business. Very uncalled for. Shouldn’t take a week and a half to do your job then turn around and be disrespectful towards customers after having to actually do your job.
Edit, in response to owner: So you resort to lying on the customer and failing to mention that you called and text my phone inappropriately? As I stated before, you are extremely unprofessional. The cancellation was placed before the food was made. I have receipts and call logs to back me up on that. So there is no need to lie on me. It should not take over a week of continuous calling and leaving my name and number for you to issue a simple refund. At least notify the customer that you are researching the issue, its called customer service. My husband shouldn't have to come in person for you to do your job. I received nothing from you until you decided to call my phone and use profane language. But you failed to mention that part in your response though. I would never ever step foot in such a dishonest and disrespectful place ever again, I have no interest in doing so. Poor customer service in the highest degree. Your reaction to all of this speaks for itself plus there are other reviews that seem to elaborate on your...
Read moreI love Indian food. Quite possibly my favorite cuisine, and since I moved down to Oklahoma, I have gone largely without it (save for what I make at home). Today I finally got down to Tulsa to try some Indian food, settled on Desi Wok because of the generally good reviews. I have to say that my experience was about as far removed from my expectations as the quality was from being good.
First off, I want to give credit where it is due. The employees I interacted with were very nice, absolutely no complaints with them, and service was pretty quick. (If I was only reviewing service the rating would be higher).
Now, the food. Like I said, big fan of Indian food, I ordered the paneer vindaloo. Ordered spicy (next level up was "extra spicy" but until you get a feel for how they spice, better not to go with the highest option). The sauce was mild. Temperature-wise, very hot, spice wise, not at all. And really it was the general seasoning was lacking. The sauce had visible water separation, so I got the impression it may literally have been watered down. The paneer was not cooked well, some pieces were super super soft and kind of disintegrated, others were very tough and rubbery. There were no well-cooked intermediates. Then there was the naan (love naan). It had a very peculiar texture I have literally never experienced before, when I ate it with the gravy it had the same texture as I imagine wet paper mache would have. Nothing about the experience was pleasant. Moreover, one of my biggest pet peeves is food waste. I usually would rather suffer through a bad meal than let the food go to waste. This was an exception. I couldn't even eat half of it.
As for the establishment. It isn't in the best shape. The men's room was out of paper towel, the urinal looked like someone didn't know what it was for (or more, what it isn't for). The sink was detaching from the wall and the hot water faucet was broken. Concerns me a little for workers going back to work (i.e. hygiene after using the bathroom), but also from the perspective of suitable working conditions for the workers. I only had to use it once in my life. They...
