We attempted to dine on Thanksgiving evening, as we had done so many times before. Last year we skipped the lunch buffet, opted for dinner, but did order the Thanksgiving Dinner, beyond being a nice presentation, that's where it ended, a plate of mush! Can't fault them for their recipes, and everyone likes different things on Thanksgiving. That being said we decided to give it another chance this year, knowing ahead we would order off the menu, no pre prepared dinner. Service was terrible, uninformed, didn't have several things we ask for, bar included, no water refills, no coffee checks, wait was making us think they forgot to turn in the order, it arrived by a different employee, kitchen staff, who said they didn't want it to sit any longer ( thoughtful of her) but it looked like it had already had a long rest! Both choices, totally different were not eatable. I relenquished mine to my son, he was able to eat parts, I set the other aside, where it was clear there was a problem, no one noticed or ask, just came back to give the check and ask about desert! Now that being said, there were just the 2 of us, early reservation, not even close to full and they seemed to have plenty of staff, so I don't consider those the issue. Check came with extra bar charges (the things we order that they realized they were out of) they took their time removing those charges, we paid our check, $$$$ and left a gratuity and a note. We waited for a response about the note, nope, so I walked up to the computer station to quietly express my disappointment, he wanted to know what he could do to make it right, seriously, he is the manager?? Would a $50 gift card bring us back, possibly for drinks only, was my sons response, waiting in the rain, he finally returned with an envelope, I handed it to my son, he looked inside, it was a hand written gift certificate for $25!!!!!!!!!, walked right back in and said I thought you said $50, oh I just grabbed the first one I saw, those are not generally prepared ahead with the day's date@&$);:/but it was probably all he could think to say when approached, ten minutes later he returned with (the same hand written) certificate for FIFTY and basically flipped it in my direction. This was once a delicious treasure, however something has gone, it has definitely left a bad taste in my mouth and a...
Read moreThe Ambiance, decor and wait staff was all 5 Star; however the value for the food at the price brought down the rating.
The great and not so great;
The crab cake appetizer was to be shared at the table… and I had my hopes up for 2 cakes (@ $18 and from previously ordering in the past from other dining establishments… 2 was what we hoped for…) I am sure the menu probably said “cake,” but it was so delicious it left more to be desired in the realm of quantity… as an appetizer is usually for a table… which normally gets tasted by a few…
The salad is offered in addition to the main entree (if desired)… @ $12 each my wife and I each got a alternate salads. She ordered the pecan salad and I ordered the caesar… I found that although the mixed greens were sizable in portion and presentable in appearance, the flavor for my caesar salad dressing left much for my taste buds to desire; I attempted to add the cracked pepper (on the table) but that did not do the trick. For her pecan salad, she likewise was offered a sizable salad, however she was left searching for the pecans, goat cheese, and cranberries which were supposed to be mixed in. (It seemed to be mostly greens and thinly sliced apples.)
We ordered the 6 Oz. Filet (@ $45)
Now although the steak was cooked to perfection and had immense delicious flavor; the appearance of the filet (I didn’t have a scale) seemed to reflect a 4 oz. filet rather than a 6. My suggestion would be to offer and serve an 8 oz. (Ie: offer a filet cut size that better reflects menu price and offers a few more bites…)
This sentiment was shared with the others in our party who ordered the filet.
The “buttered fondant potatoes” looked interesting; and although the taste and texture was pleasant on the edges the potato was undercooked in the center of the cube.
Once again this experience was impressive in the area of interior cleanliness and ambiance, as well as 5 star with...
Read moreFried green tomatoes - tomatoes were not ripe and thus lacked flavor. A prime green tomato bares flavor that’s a tad acidic and a bit soft. These were noticeably picked too early. Although the flavor of the tomato itself was absent, the crust enshrining it couldn’t cover its essence. With hints of sage and garlic, the tomatoes crust didn’t overcome the natural missing flavors of the green tomato.
The Chalkboard (Beef Wellington) - It was cooked medium-well. The crust was perfect. The meat was also cooked perfectly. It was smaller than expected but was good. The asparagus was overcooked. The orzo was not as creamy as expected. It lacked seasonings (lack garlic and Parmesan) leaving much about this tasty pasta desirable.
Airline Fried Chicken- the chicken was tender but lacked seasonings. Obvious was the absence of flavor within the chicken. Outside, the crust was more soft than crunchy. And the yearning for flavor was not met by the relative similar seasonings achieved from a home cook. Yet where the chicken lacked, the cornbread subsided the need for flavor.
The service was exceptional. From walking in without a reservation to being served. From the host to the server. Each graciously accompanied a stellar service worthy of 5 stars. And even after a slight mixup with the foods being served at the wrong table, the server corrected the plate bearers mistake with apologizing.
On another final note, there, for some, was a bit of annoyance with the foot traffic from hotel to the restaurant. At the back of the restaurant is a doorway where hotel guest can enter and exit. Throughout the service, hotel guest would through the dining room to reach the host or visit the bar. With groups of people, about 3 and sometimes 4, walking through the dining room it could detract from a moment in a romantic date. For me this plausible annoyance was...
