I almost talked myself out of leaving this review bc it is in stark contrast to my 5-star review of a year ago. My wife and I can only afford to come here 1-2 times a year bc we are retired and on fixed incomes. However, we have eaten here for our anniversary each of the last few years bc that is a special occasion. At any rate, we returned again this year, very anxious to enjoy another fine meal accompanied with superior service. To our great surprise and chagrin, that did not happen. Our table was on the recently remodeled south side. It took an inordinate amount of time for the waiter to arrive. I don't mean 3-5 minutes and you wonder where he is. I mean 15 or more minutes and you wonder if he even knows you have arrived, reservation in hand. That is way too long to sit completely unattended, no beverage of any type, including water. We are finally able to flag down a support person to get water. When the waiter arrives, no apology, no recognition of our situation. We place our order. After awhile, my entree shows up, delivered by a 3rd party. That's great, except that my wife's salad had yet to arrive AND I had ordered an appetizer which also hadn't arrived. No waiter in sight. My wife insisted that I go ahead with my steak so it doesn't get cold. I am nearly finished when her salad finally shows up. She takes a bite and it is warm. Not room temperature, warm. The lettuce has started to wilt. She calls the waiter over to take the salad away. He asked if she wanted another one. She didn't. When her entree finally arrived, she said to just box it up. The waiter didn't seem too upset about ruining our evening. We had seen him at other tables laughing and carrying on with patrons he appeared to know well. He didn't know us and certainly treated us that way. The problem is that we had looked forward to this evening for weeks and spent nearly $150 for a nightmarish evening. I don't see how we can risk returning. The waiter had a great...
Read moreWhen we arrived, the restaurant was at around 10% capacity with no wait. We had made a reservation for four at noon, and we were promptly seated. The waitstaff was courteous, but they appeared overwhelmed. We placed our orders for drinks and food about 15 minutes after arriving, but it took several attempts to actually get the drinks to our table. Once at our table, it took a bit to get stemware to actually serve the drinks. This wouldn't have been much of a problem, but our waters were running low, and the pop my wife ordered simply never showed up.
About 30-40 minutes after ordering, the food began to arrive, but unfortunately my meal was entered incorrectly (or not at all), so they had to start making my meal after everyone else's had already arrived. Again, given the time of year and how busy the restaurant quickly became, we tried to remain patient and in good spirits.
As everyone is wrapping up their meals, drinks, and contemplating desserts, my sandwich finally came out - in a to-go container. Reading that as a message to "please leave", we forewent desserts or any additional drinks.
Our server was incredibly apologetic and reiterated multiple times that they were getting slammed in the kitchen, but they were trying to do their best to get things out. We did our best to confer that we weren't in any rush, we simply wanted our meals so we could enjoy a bit of holiday time with the family over drinks and a nice atmosphere.
In terms of the overall food, the bread and Caesar salad were good. I had a couple bites of my wife's chicken pasta, and it was also quite good. Everyone that got their food enjoyed it, and those that ordered (and received) their drinks also seemed to enjoy them.
I completely understand having off days, understaffing issues, and holiday rushes, but I would not classify this as a good experience. I left hungry, but with no appetite or present...
Read moreI’m only leaving one star because I have to, otherwise it would be zero stars. We never got our food after waiting over an hour and a half. We told our waiter to grab the manager for us to speak to them. We obviously were not a priority. She finally came over to our table after waiting almost an hour for our drinks. We asked where our main course was and she had a horrible attitude and told us she would call the owner, which we requested after waiting so long. We felt we needed an explanation after so many excuses by the waiter and staff. We have been here before with different management and it was fabulous so we expected the same outcome. We don’t believe the current manager ever called the owner, she then asked us to leave the restaurant immediately . We were so insulted by her behavior. Many people there were asking us what had happened and that they were experiencing the same thing. This is unfortunate for the Polo Grill. I have been going there for dinner and other events for years since I was a child. I believe management is to blame. There are too many restaurants that treat their customers with respect and want them to have a wonderful dining experience, Polo Grill is not one of them at this time. Until they replace the management staff this will continue. As we were asked to leave we decided to run over to another prominent restaurant instead. We knew the staff, service, and food would be 5 star. That’s exactly how our evening ended, 5 star but with another restaurant around the corner. We will not be back to the Polo Grill until the management staff is replaced.
*After reading Polos response, I’m shocked at their colorful detail to insult their customers and to not be completely honest as we have nothing to lose by stating our experience. And I think they know that. *Not worth your time, energy, or...
