Tried to go to this location in Tuscaloosa, AL on a Saturday afternoon. I will get to the 'tried to' bit shortly. It is located on a main shopping area on McFarland blvd. I have been trying to eat healthy and happened upon Frutta Bowl as it was highly rated and close to where I was going to be. I was intrigued by the thought of making a meal out of fruits mostly. The place was fairly busy and about 80% of the tables were filled with customers. There were about 2 people in line to order in front of me while I took the time to read through the Menu as they dont have 'table service' at this place. I get up to the counter with Menu in my hand. There are about 5-6 employees all in their 20's working away at preparing orders. I stood around for a few minutes and NOT A SINGLE person even acknowledged the fact that there was a 'customer waiting to order'. Not even a 'Hi, welcome to Frutta Bowl, I will be right with you'. Not like I was expecting to be waited upon hand and foot, but someone to notice that I was there would have been nice. I stood waiting there for a few more minutes and observed that THERE WAS NOT A SINGLE real plate, fork, spoon or knife in the entire place. Even for the guests that were eating in the restaurant every thing on the table was 'single use plastic' of some kind. Also, there was not a single employee that was outside the area behind the counter. Why? They only need to come out perhaps once in 2 hours to empty the bins of all the plastic once they fill up. This place has a MASSIVE FOOTPRINT ON THE ENVIRONMENT. All the so called 'healthy food option' with fruits went out the window for me when I saw that they substitute unclean environment for clean eating. This on top of complete lack of customer focus was enough for me to simply walk out of the restaurant. No one noticed that I walked out either! So, that is one location that will be crossed off the...
Read moreThis Frutta is where I had my first ever acai bowl. To be honest, I'm not really a health food or super food kind of gal, but the pictures looked too enticing and I DO love fruit...so I had to give it a shot. My bowl was truly delicious, and I'm so glad I tried it!
The interior of this shop is super modern. I loved the granite counter-tops and just the overall vibe. It really looks like the owner sunk some money into making the place inviting and aesthetically pleasing, and they succeeded!
I tried the frutella bowl -- an acai base, then a layer of granola, then topped with bananas and strawberries. Peanut butter and nutella drizzles round out the bowl, with a sprinkling of coconut flakes for effect. I was in love.
For those who, like me, have never had acai before, I would describe the flavor as a cross between blueberries and blackberries. The acai base is a nice puree with the consistency of an icy smoothie. The contrasting textures (silky acai, crunchy granola, sticky PB) were delightful and the flavors blending together were so, so yummy. While it was a little expensive, it was clear from the taste that everything was very high quality. It was also a generous portion, and has left me feeling full all afternoon (along with granting me a great deal of brain power to finish the essay I was working on)!
One major highlight of my trip was the service. The man who took my order was so pleasant, helpful, and patient, especially after he learned it was my first visit. I didn't catch his name, but I believe he had his mustache dyed a really neat shade of blue. He made me feel very welcome, and so did the girl who actually made my bowl.
Thanks, Frutta! Please come to Huntsville! I miss...
Read moreHad a weird experience here today? I come in almost everyday and I always love the atmosphere but one of the “managers” has a bit of an ego issue. I asked to get a smoothie with my bowl using POINTS. The girl taking my order was super sweet and was apparently a manger but had no idea how to do that. Then some other girl looks up from her phone, rudley interrupts and also has no idea what she’s doing. They sit there for 10 minutes trying to figure out how to use my points and so finally I recommend they get the owner/manager who helped me with my points literally the DAY before. I said it in a kind voice and it was just a recommendation considering he had told me that he had not trained some of the staff to do points yet since they were so new. When I mentioned this to her she gave me a rude look and completely disregards what I said and goes “yeah so I actually am a manager” (never said she wasn’t?) then continues to sit there tapping random buttons on her Ipad again for another long period of time STILL having no idea what she was doing until the girl taking my order prior had to just give me the smoothie for free since they couldn’t figure out the points. That same “manager” made my order completely wrong and the bowl was awful for the first time ever. Every time I go in there and she takes my order she’s given customers attitude as if she owns the place. Not that this matters but she’s the girl with tattoos and glasses. Definitely my last time going in there.. situation made me...
