Driving through The District in Tustin we would give Pei Wei one more try. We used to really like it, but a couple years ago the quality of the food and menu suddenly took a turn, so we just stopped going. Tonight my family of 5 walked in for dinner around 8:30 pm, which is fairly close to closing time, but the staff were very friendly, and patient as I asked a lot of questions about their updated menu. I was pleasantly surprised to see they added several items, including a build your own bento box, which both of my kids ordered. You choose your protein, type of rice, greens, small appetizer and 4 piece sushi. The protein portions for the bento box are not large enough for an individual who likes to eat hearty, but it was enough food for my 11 and 13 year old, and they liked being able to customize it.
They also have small plate options and daily specials offering a specific menu item at a reduced price,. On Wednesday's through their app, you can also get a mystery promotion. It was Wednesday, so decided to down load the app and I received a free bowl worth $10, which was amazing. I'm not entirely sure, but it may have a been a first time app download promotion to receive the bowl.
I decided to get the teriyaki chicken, which I used to always get, but this time I wanted to try the cauliflower rice. The amount of chicken vs vegetables was generous and I was definitely satisfied. One of my previous frustrations with Pei Wei were the portion sizes vs the pricing. When I ordered a chicken bowl and received 5 pieces of chicken, or 5 shrimp, it was a bit frustrating. This time however, there was plenty of chicken in the chicken bowl for this mama. Long story short, it looks like Pei Wei has changed my opinion and the family will definitely...
Read moreI was surprised to see the reviews not a little bit higher, but regardless, my wife took me here for my first time since she has been here before and said it was pretty good. I would definitely agree and say it was very good, and they had a large number of options. We ended up ordering the Kung Pai Chicken, Broccoli Beef, Szechuan Green Beans, and more. The Green beans are honestly the best I have had in a very long time. I am not a fan of green beans, but the marinade that is on these, I was easily able to eat the full bowl of green beans before I remembered to grab a picture. As for the beef and chicken, they each had great flavor and great seasoning as well. The fried rice with each was moist and not too hot or dry. As for the veggies, they are pretty standard and basic, but again, this is a solid option, in my opinion, as a better Panda Express option. Definitely recommend it and have been a few times now since the first visit! The service was great, and the front lady was sweet enough to provide honest feedback and let us know...
Read morePei Wei used to have great food, but that was around a year or so ago. Now, food quality has dropped. They ignore any special requests like "well done" or include hot mustard. Tofu that is supposed to be crispy is not, it is partially raw in the center.
The last time I ordered, the snap peas had not been prepared correctly. You have two choices with snap peas.. use baby snap peas or destring them like green beans. They used fully mature snap peas that still had strings. Not one or two were missed, all of them.
Chicken that is not deep fried is shown as cooked in sauce. Instead, it arrives looking as if it was steamed. Just naked unappealing chicken that no one ate. And this locust like crew will eat anything. It looked like something a hospital would serve.
Salad ordered last time did not taste as it should. it was not as good, the quality had dropped.
Up the quality. $45 on food should mean it is prepared correctly. Not raw, not half prepped, not visually...
